Finally made it to the Dyno pull. Can you guess the numbers? 2180cc t3/t4 hybrid turbo with a Holley 570cfm carb and a CB Performance crank trigger ignition. At Westtech performance.

wow pretty impressive. 239 horsepower. How much did a set up like that cost? Is it reliable? Can I take it across the country or camping in the local mountains? Not talking shit, just curious. Also what type of engine is that? you said it has a type 3/4 turbo, but what kind of block are you using? I don't know much about turbos, sorry.
@r1verrat19776 жыл бұрын
Can't learn if you don't ask questions. Better to ask than be stuck on the side of the road. Cost of engine fully installed and tuned is about 10k. As far as reliability I say yes as long as you are not constantly drag racing and always on the rev limiter. Nice thing about turbos, with most normal driving you are barely in boost and with them lower compression needed for a turbo the engine can last forever. For maoutain driving I say yes as for any carburetor motor as long as you have the motor matters properly to the altitude you will be traveling. The engine is a standard type 1 but bored and stroked to 2180cc. The block is an aftermarket aluminum Autolinea case. Much stronger and more fire resistant than the old magnesium caeses. As far as the heads, yes they are standard type 1 heads. But they have been completely done as far as larger valves, ported and polished, setup to run with the turbo and power. If I were to change 1 thing on the motor to make it a daily driver I would definitely put fuel injection on it. Which would make it start up much easier and better idle. For mountain driving, fuel injection would be the best option. Hope this helps you. Feel free to ask me any question.
@SanDiego_VDubLife6 жыл бұрын
Wow, 10Gs, that is outside my budget, but thanks for all the info. I hear you on the fuel injection. I'm thinking of doing that too. That will be later maybe, for now, just gonna go with bigger crank and cam. Already got the dual carbs, maybe step up to dual 40s, but if I do that might as well go with fuel injection. Hope to get my bus up and running soon. Gonna redo the whole thing starting with a type 2 block, since I can't put the rear mount on without an adapter and my type 1 case is already stripped where the adapter mounts.
@r1verrat19776 жыл бұрын
ya, not cheap by any means. I would look into the aftermarket aluminum cases. Might make your build a lil easier. What cc are you thinking of going with? 40's are great carbs, less finicky than 48's. Damn you live up in the desert? I noticed you were coming down the mountain. How often do you bring it down to the valley? I know going back up the pass can be a pain for older air-cooled vws.

Not all the way up the Cajon. I'm by the 15 and 215fwy. Unfortunately I don't drive it as much as I like. But when I do, so far no heating issues going up the pass and not in the slow lane either. It's all about the RPM's and external oil coolers. Keep the RPM's from going to high and the extra coolers and fans and she will run cool. Oh ya, keep the boost down too.

@@r1verrat1977 cool man. Yeah I realized after that you could also be in the devore muscoy area. That's good shit though. I had a 65 bug that had a 40 horse with a big bore kit. I went from the 10, North on the 15 all the way to the 215. It was okay no overheating but I was not going fast at all. Lol I wanted to try to make it to the 138 at least but figured I wasn't going to be driving it like that ever so why even bother. Haha. But yours is making some serious power though I like the way it sounds.
@r1verrat19773 жыл бұрын
Ya, I had a 63 ragtop with a 40hp motor and drive it to a show in Ventura. No heating issues, but going up the grade was 3rd gear and 45-50mph. Ya, it all about that low end torque and gearing to cruise up the hills at a lower RPM and stay cool. I never had issues using the toll roads off the 91 and 241 going to and from shows in the OC

That engine would be stronger with forged cast iron or allmiyon however it spelt. The stronger the engine block and piston better performance out of it. Eg billit 1.iter flat 4 33bhp - probably 300bhp. That just a guess.
@r1verrat19775 жыл бұрын
Remember that is rear wheel HP not crank HP. Most people out there estimate and have no dyno sheets to show on their motors. Always add about 15% for HP loss through the transmission and drive train. With that, the motor is making 300 crank HP. My engine block is an aluminum block and not the stock magnesium case. The internals are all forged steal to handle the power and more. The turbo has a 5lb spring for engine longevity and can handle more boost and make more power.
@Jprincemassey5 жыл бұрын
@@r1verrat1977 that verty truw that. i just guess what bhp they might make with a billlite flat 1.2 - 1.9liter as i knpw eg jz cars do use billit for tiame attck and drag racing they cam make loads ofmbhp using that egni e block etc.
