I have different cameras for the live stream footage. I have links to most of the gear I use on my website: resinwerksstudio.com/pages/tools I really like the DJI mic. It's super simple to use, sounds good without even needing to connect a lav mic to the transmitter, and it can even record direct to the transmitter or camera... or both and have a backup.

love the idea. I think it was fun to see how you gathered random supplies and then used them. I think you did a pretty good job of gathering supplies that could be used in an unknown project. I also liked the base idea as I too thought about the bits falling out when you placed it back down after turning your pepper. I also would have hated to see that material left after parting off the actual dispenser go to waste.

I see that you check the temp of resin. Dose that help with the turning I've been useing resin, but it seem to be to hard when I turn it I get hit with small pieces. Can tell what I'm doing wrong. The pepper mill looks good I've done a few put none like that.
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dale! The temperature only has to do with the pouring of the resin, looking for a specific viscosity and timing of the pour. If you are finding the resin is hard, it's just the resin you are using. Each resin formula is different. You may try using a negative rake carbide cutter if you aren't already. That should help tame brittle or chippy resin. You can check them out at Turners Warehouse: www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/easy-wood-tools-carbide-cutters?ref=nvww&variant=13527856709715

This is a great project, and I love the finish. The mystery box is fun. 😊 Do you have a video showing step by step how to do the coating? If so, could you please provide the link. Ya, it does look easy, however my main question is what grit do you sand to before applying, what grit do you use between coats?
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jen, glad you enjoyed it! I don't have a video specifically on applying UV finishes. I just sand to around 600 grit and apply a coat. Between coats, you can just scuff with 600 if the surface is pretty smooth, or drop down as needed to smooth things out and go back up to 600 before applying the next coat(s)

Very cool project and the mystery box was a fun idea. I’ve looked at these kits before and have been somewhat put off by the lack of forethought by the designers in screw placement. Seems good engineering would design a clear path for the screw attachment. That said, I still want to make one in the future. Your idea of making a base that captures the residual powder was brilliant. A question, did you cast the screwdriver handle shown in the video?
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, not the greatest design with how those screws are, but it seemed to work out fine with a little patience and extra care. Yes, I did make the screwdriver. Got a video on it too if you want to see how I made it, really fun project! 😀 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mojHnKKmrMinfZI

Oh yeah, I hadn't even thought about that. Way faster than the other grinder kits! These are pretty cool, you can really dive into any design you want to go for, no limitations really. I'm glad to hear the UV finish might help out. It's a pretty decent way to go for something like this

This was awesome. i love watching mystery box videos. i have never made something like this but it makes me want to give it a try. Do you have a link too the UV finish you used and would it work on wood pens as well? I saw that and thought it may be a better more durable finish on pens than the CA finish i have been doing. Thank you and keep up the great videos
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ken! I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙌🙌 I have links to the products I used in the video description above. Here's a link to the UV resin at Turners Warehouse though:www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/alumi-uv-uv-resin?ref=nvww I am not a big fan of UV resin for pens personally. I find that you can get CA finishes on, sanded smooth, and polished much quicker than UV resin since you can use accelerator. I cure the UV resin for 30 minutes each coat, so it's just not really worth it. I like to use it on medium size projects, especially ones that have lots of curves that would make it really difficult to get a CA finish applied. Having said that, I think it's a great idea to give it a try for yourself though. It may turn out to be your favorite method of finishing pens. I don't see it as a waste of money even if you don't like it for pen finishes either. It's so useful for a variety of things, nice to have on hand

Thanks! Sorry for not mentioning the UV light, the video was already so long, I just didn't want to squeeze more of me talking in. It's just a nail curing machine I got on Amazon. It works pretty well once you get it set up at the right height. I like the model I have because you can set it to stay on for about 15 minutes. I couldn't find any that you could just leave on without an automatic timer, and most only stayed on for a minute or so. I run it twice just to make sure the resin is fully cured. I used Divine Pigments dye on this project, you can find it at Turners Warehouse: www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/divine-pigments?ref=nvww Same with the UV resin: www.turnerswarehouse.com/products/alumi-uv-uv-resin?ref=nvww I don't have any videos specifically covering UV resin in depth. It's a handy resin to have on hand though, lots of uses! Great for ring making, glueing things down quick, and finishes. In a nutshell, it cures by UV light. So you have unlimited working time, then you just expose it to UV light (with a UV bulb or by setting it in the sun) when you want it to cure
