I am very happy both Michael James and Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi don't sidestep the question of how much animals suffer and in a modern context, our commodification of animals for profit. There are many well know stories of Bhagavan’s kindness towards animals which are heart-warming. Tradition, habit, convenience, mere taste, marketing and our inclinations seem to stop people looking at the suffering we as humans inflicted on animals. The slaughterhouses and pig gas chambers are hidden away from the Supermarkets as the sight of animals being slaughtered would effect sales and profit. Many peoples natural compassion I am sure would be moved if they knew clearly how factory farm animals are treated. In many ways animals bodies are not that different to our bodies and it is obvious to anyone who has a pet dog or cat that dogs and cats suffer and feel pain when treated badly. The division of animals into 'pets or companion animals' and 'farmed animals' seems to mean for many people the farmed animals, who are hidden away, can be treated in ways that would be considered horrendous if the same treatment was given to our dogs, cats. May ahimsa grow and refine as we turn within. Thank you for posting this short Q&A video. 🙏 Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Arunachalaramanaya

12 years ago I saw a program on people who had gone vegan. I thought I would give it a go for a week. After three days I felt so good and my energy was bouncing all over the place. I’ve been a vegan ever since - no difficulty at all. But it was done because it made me feel better, not for any “moral” purpose. The world is full of animals that eat other animals - it’s the way of things. But for this body/mind appearance being vegan is the way of things.

thanks God he made sense, there are a lot of Yogis that just to follow traditions use a lot of dairy., I lived in one Ashram for years and attended lectures in other for years and both consume a lot of dairy., completely against ahimsa.

I’m confused because many sentient animals die farming vegan crops. I’ve read papers and seen many arguments on both sides of the issue and it seems no one truly knows which diet kills the least creatures. And then there’s the question of if insects are counted or not.

Yes industrialised agriculture also has harms associated with it .

@@michaeldillon3113imagine so many forests and jungle had to be cut in Brasil, animals living there lost the homes just to grow soya for tofu, soya milk, and for cooking .Not for feeding cows!!! Cows do not eat soya seeds but the leftover only.. So so much cruelty going on in the name of veganism..

I initially gave up meat not because I am an animal-lover(l am now though) but because it's an attachment that I realised I must give up on just like por*nography. Phew.... Too many "I" s

Sri Nisardagatta smoked tobacco and ate meat Eckhart Tolle eats meat and drinks wine I know this is a Sri Ramana Q&A but partaking in moderation these things and knowing yourSelf at the same time is possible and certainly not "bad".
@adalbertoruiz76513 күн бұрын
There's no moderation in taking lives for pleasure. "Meat" per se wouldn't be "bad" if it was lab meat for example. Smoking is a personal choice, it isn't harming anyone else other than the one smoking. But eating meat isn't only a personal choice, since it affects others. It's an ethical question, not even spiritual or religious.

It is common sense not to inflict pain on animals just to satisfy our taste buds! They experience extreme pain before being slaughtered and they are not our natural food. Better read Holy Science by Swami Yukteshwar he clearly delineates why we are naturally vegetarian!

I was a vegetarian and vegan for many years. Felt great in the beginning but horrible after a few years. Really weak and frail... Went paleo a few years back and all my symptoms went away (brain fog, joint pain, low energy). The optimal diet for a human is to be an omnivore. This is the design of the human body. Compassion is not related to the natural laws of the world you live in. Also, Ramana said it doesn't matter.

Vegan diets are possible but only when done properly. There are lots of people on KZbin who used to be very prominent vegan influencers who gave up due to severe ill health . When you get to Michael's stage you probably don't care about the body .
@Chad-vo8pz3 күн бұрын
@@michaeldillon3113 Curious, what is Michael's "stage"? I believe Bhagavan has taught that ego cannot measure/judge how "advanced" it is, then how could you? Have you been with Michael for an extended period of time or do you just know him from watching videos and giving lectures?
@michaeldillon31133 күн бұрын
@@Chad-vo8pz Well my general view is that Michael sends 90 per cent of his time thinking about, or talking about Bhagavan . Actually I think it's more like 99.9 per cent of his time . I would assume that anyone who is that committed to Bhagavan won't be unduly concerned with the body and all that goes with it . If they are then I would think that maybe they have missed the point ( of Bhagavan's teaching ) . I see no evidence that Michael has missed the point . He remains as humble as ever and doesn't use his considerable knowledge of Advaita Vedanta generally , and Bhagavan in particular, for fame or fortune .🕊️
@Chad-vo8pz2 күн бұрын
@@michaeldillon3113 Alright, he appears humble and seems to seek no fortune, however the simple fact of appearing on social media is presenting himself in a limelight ("spiritual fame") and we cannot know how that affects him. He might [secretly] love all that attention he gets from all of these seekers who adore and constantly compliment him. He would not be the first teacher who gets infatuated by the adoration of followers. As long as there is ego, like with Michael, as long there are ego's shortcomings like pride etc. Again, we cannot know. He may *appear* humble but we cannot look into his heart. Also, someone who thinks constantly about the teachings of Bhagavan is using a lot of his mind but on the other hand is not attending to "I am". One cannot reflect on Bhagavan's teaching and simultaneously practice atma-vichara. Using one's mind no matter for what is ego and not a direct path to salvation. There is no mind or Bhagavan's teaching in atma-swarupa, therefore as long as we think about Bhagavan's teaching we cannot realize self! At some point, in an advanced state, we have to let go of Bhagavan's teachings. Since that is not the case with Michael he is not really advanced at all based on that fact. Maybe in comparison with us onlookers what is more evidence of our sorry state of affairs. Is Michael really unconcerned about his body? Would he be oblivious if someone would stab him with a knife? I rather doubt that. Bhagavan did not flinch when ruffians punched him in the face. Don't get me wrong, Michael is probably the best thing we can find "out there", nonetheless we should not project anything on him. We can only realize self on our own, nobody, including Michael, can really help us with that. If we keep clinging and relying on others then we for sure are mere rookies. Long talk cut short: *We simply cannot know!*
