And there will for sure be things in Season 2 that have to cross paths with Star Wars Rebels. Andor is a good show but the attitude of it being a superior product for not having blatant cameos, references and callbacks is ridiculous.

Hands down Andor is the best Star Wars property I have ever watched. I was completely moved by the story, the characters, and the music. I literally wanted to join the rebellion and fight the Empire by the end of the season 😆 . It felt more like an HBO show than a Disney+ because of the high quality of the writing. More Star Wars fans need to watch the show.

it's the quality of an HBO show but with the standards of a Lucasfilm product - which means no sex scenes/pointless nudity, very limited bodily fluids (i.e. blood) and very limited cursing. While I do agree, I do feel that the pacing could have been a little tighter. I honestly think they could have shrunk the episode count from 12 to 10 and been a little more effective at holding the audience captive cause there were times where it felt like it dragged on a bit. This can be especially noticeable at the start of the show where It really takes that 3rd episode to grab a lot of people and I heard a lot of people checked out before they ever got there.

I know people love Rogue One (I’m not one of them), but one of the things people criticize that movie for was that the characters were flat, so hearing that they’re making a spin off on one of those characters probably didn’t grab people’s interest. We are the ones Disney needs to bring in first. We are the ones the fan service is geared for because we are old enough to be nostalgic for source material from which it comes from. Young people were first exposed to Star Wars during the prequel era. You were not born when the story actually began in 1977. My hope is that they take the right lessons from Andor (better writing, mature stories, care & effort put into the production, etc) and not the wrong lesson that most studios would: “Star Wars should be *dark* ” It doesn’t have to be dark to be good; it has to be GOOD to be good. Explore more writers and directors like Tony Gilroy willing to do a new creative take on the IP and let them cook

I really enjoyed this, I started reading some of the EU recently and SW does have a surprising amount of variety and tones, including various characters. It's been a top 10 show during its' run. Part of the lower numbers are because it's not kid friendly. That's cutting your audience in half. A lot of parents aren't as comfortable letting their kids watch this, and even if they did, a lot of kids would get bored. That said, the adult side of Star Wars fandom has been much more receptive, and they're the ones paying the bills in every house. It's less about viewership and more about customer retention.

When it comes to fan service, I don’t think it can be entirely avoided when it comes to certain characters. I mean, pretty much anything having to do with Obi-Wan post-RotS is going to involve Luke in some manner since that’s the reason why he’s on Tatooine in the first place. And I dunno if I would call Leia’s role in “Kenobi” unneeded since it was there to help try and smooth the continuity between the films more. Like, you had her in episode IV reacting as if she knew who Kenobi was in person, and yet episode III ended with them seemingly never chancing upon each other. Much like how his second confrontation with Darth Vader was there to sync the prequel continuity up with the original trilogy, I thought this was a good way of explaining that oversight. Whether it was executed well is debatable.

This show was so hard hitting and made you actually fear the empire and the stormtroopers actually hit their targets. Korey. The Problem with Obi-Wan wasn't little Leia. It was REVA. She is a terribly written character, that was created purely for emotional manipulation.. and THEY LET HER LIVE! ...jfc... Leia's silly segments are stupid, but they're supposed to be childish. There's no reason Reva's. That being said, I was not bored at all while watching any of them. Boba-Obi-Andor.. mainly because I don't have a short attention span that needs to be distracted by some Explosions every 2nd second. And every time someone mentions a 'Legacy Character', my interest switches off. Cause I am not attached to the nostalgia like the rest of these - fans. Andor was Great because the creators were given leeway to tell their story, their way. And I hope they get another Season.. cause I too want to continue seeing the Universe expand. Maybe a Solo series.

I loved this show. I totally agree with you that it expands the universe and gets us invested in new characters while feeling like we are in the Star Wars universe. This is the world that Luke and Biggs wanted to get off of Tattooine and join in on the fight. It was refreshing. Unlike you I liked the pacing. All the scenes added more of the flavor and injected some points to push the story or fill out the world. When Mon Mothma is talking about Chandrilla traditions early on, who know it would play a key role in the end. Season 2 will probably be more of the pacing that you're looking for. But I like the introduction to a scenario, an episode of fleshing it out and ratcheting up the tension, and then the third episode you let go and enjoy the ride. What Disney needs to do is create more projects with a high level or writing and excellent production values. All Star Wars should be top tier, unless you're really playing to sell toys then they can dumb it down and have a fun adventure. I'm here for the grittier side of the universe.

Another thing Disney better learn is that Star Wars didn’t become one of the biggest IP’s ever by focusing on “non-force” characters. Star Wars and The Force/Lightsabers ARE what made this. We’ve had enough “non-force” shows. They need to get back to their roots and either jump far enough into the future so legacy characters are not an issue or far enough into the past (old republic) for the same reason.
@pcb462
@pcb462 Жыл бұрын
When I say we’ve had enough “non-force” shows, I don’t mean they can’t still be part of the line up. But so far we’ve not gotten a single show that’s focus is about Jedi. Mando gives us the force sparingly. We need a show that brings us back to Jedi/Sith all the time. It needs to be untethered to legacy characters. Another part of the universe….a different galaxy from the Skywalker one.

I’m so sick of this dichotomy that the only two options are “Empire / Rebellion with familiar human characters” or “Empire / Rebellion with unfamiliar human characters.” There are other ways to make Star Wars “feel fresh” and still “feel like Star Wars.” How about showing us the Republic for once? How about showing us more than two aliens at a time? To me, Andor feels very similar to everything else disney puts out because it’s the same setting: the Empire. And I like Andor a lot, but one of the things that makes it Star Wars is specific ALIENS like the ones from the Prequels. Most people who say it doesn’t feel like Star Wars aren’t saying it because “It doesn’t have Skywalkers” or “It doesn’t have Boba Fett.” They say it because Andor ignores so many of the unique alien cultures and species who live in the galaxy. And strange alien worlds like Felucia or Cato Neimoidia or Rodia. If anything, there ought to be more non-human characters than human ones as the Empire discriminated against aliens more than humans. You guys were right about one thing: digging into the innerworkings of things is a good idea to make things feel fresh. But Star Wars has actually done that before. One of the reasons people love the Clone Wars show so much is that it goes out of it’s way to explore different cultures of different species. The Rodians of Rodia, the Lurmen of Maridun, the Pantorans of Pantora and their neighbors, the Orto Plutonians, the Twi-Leks of Ryloth, the Dugs of Malastare, the Geonosians of Geonosis, the Hutts of Nal Hutta, the Hybrid Zabrak Nightbrothers and Nightsisters of Dathomir, the Trandoshans of Trandosha, the Calamari & the Quarren of Mon Calamari, the people of Balnab and Petitite Pattuna, the Umbarans of Umbara, the Zygerrians of Zygerria, the people of Quarzite, the Muuns of Muunilinst & Scipio, the Dagoyan Mystics of Bardotta. They even show the people of Raxus, the capital of the Separatists, and show us their point of view. That’s part of why the Mandalorian was so interesting - Mandalorians are a specific culture. And, Baby Grogu was interesting for the same reason - we’re learning more about Yoda’s species (or at least we could have if they weren’t so anal about avoiding Yoda’s mythology like the plague). Ignoring the aliens of Star Wars is ignoring a big part of what Star Wars has to offer. I also don’t like this dichotomy of “Skywalkers should be in everything all the time” vs “Skywalker should never be in anything ever again.” It’s all about context. Familiar characters should show up if the context is appropriate, and not otherwise. It’s not as simple as “familiar = bad”. “Star Wars has never shown us the minutia before.” Spoken like someone who’s never read any of the novels. Go read X-Wing: Rogue Squadron and tell me Star Wars has never explored the minutia of government or military before.

I think Andor being a prequel doesn't help either. I know what's going to happen with the main character. I saw that movie. Here’s why I am not watching and I am a huge Star Wars fan…. After Disney screwed up the latest movie trilogy, destroyed Bobafet’s legacy, ruined Hans in his solo movie, and the last straw was a questionable Obiwan series…. ONLY the Mandilorian brough back some faith to Star Wars… but by the time Andor came around, my faith in Disney handling Star Wars was very low and I didn’t want to be disappointed again. Even though Andor is getting good reviews, I didn’t feel like investing my time in the series. Any good will I had for the Star Wars series had hit a low. Also, as long as Kathleen Kennedy is there and totally mishandled Star Wars, my interest will continue to be low. Disney needs to bring out a legit Star Wars movie to redeem themselves. Other than Mandilorian, I won’t be watching any of the other Star Wars series.

Cory how many times did you say in this video that "it doesn't feel like Star Wars"? That right there should tell you why the majority of the audience didn't watch this show. You say Rogue One is the best of the Disney era movies, but what do people talk about the most from that movie? That Darth Vader hallway scene. So a show like Andor while it may be good, alienated a LOT of people by boasting about the fact that there are no cameos and no Force users. To a lot of people myself included, Star Wars is the struggle between Jedi and Sith. It's the mysticism of the Force. Without that element, you've got "Saving Private Andor". If a show is great, but nobody watches it, is it really that great?

I think people are just missing the obvious... Since Andor isn't "kid friendly" Disney is missing out on a large family audience that it would normally get from a Star Wars show or movie. Many parents will put on a star wars movie for this kids even thought they're not into it. Lots of kids are also on Disney+ who are probably restricted to kid friendly content. So it makes sense that Disney would try to expand access to Andor beyond just Disney+ in order to capture more adult audiences.
