I’d have to disagree. The “dream sequence” that Ahsoka is going through is because it’s character development. She ended up in the world between worlds because of her deep connection to Morai ( the goddess of the light side of the force) Anakin’s final lesson to her was to have the Will to survive, to live, to become more. Anakin transitioning from light side to Vader was done splendidly. Anakin was testing her resolve and allowed her to beat him. It was very poetic.

She is NOT in the WBW because it is not how someone can go to WBW and it is funny that you Disney idiots have the tendency to forget other shows. Do you remember what Ezra need to do to reach the WBW? Or it is convenient for you to forget that little detail. So NO she was not in the WBW, she was underwater the WHOLE TIME and Dave Filoni, who always suck by the way, did this just to justify why his wet dream is not dead after spending so many hours underwater.

I'm overdue for a revisit to Rebels as it pertains to Ashoka specifically, but did you not find it kind of weird that she started in this series needing that lesson? She seemed almost like inert before this last episode to me.

And it wasn't just some "dream sequence", where it took place is something that was already established in Rebels. I understand why it would bother Martin, but his issue with it is based around material that's already been shown, and not just some cheap device.

I still don't get where this conflict even comes from. Yes, its a good lesson to learn, but its completely unprompted by the previous events in the series and even beyond that. When was Ahsoka ever contemplating the idea of giving up? If anything she has more of a reason now to keep going; she's conquered and outlived her demons in the form of Vader, she's learned the truth of Anakin's fall and accepted that, as well as having already learned she's more than a some soldier. She's had all these arcs before. When she quit the Order, she came to realize being a Jedi isn't just war and death, they're meant to be peacekeepers and not warriors. Her discovering Anakin became Vader had her come to terms with the fate of Anakin, removing him from the idolized place she kept him in her mind. Moreover, was this Anakin? Cause I genuinely can't tell. I don't remember the World Between Worlds being established as the Force netherworld so-to-speak. So is that even Anakin's Force Ghost? Why would Anakin be so surprised she still thinks of him as Vader in some aspects? His, "Is that what this is about?" comes off as though she's in the wrong for thinking of him as Vader, when Vader IS him. Plus the dialogue in some parts... "Time to die." DAVE PLEASE, I know you can write so what the hell is this?! This is some of the most generic lines in all of dialogue. It'd have been better if Anakin was just quiet, since the silence would at least create some tension rather than making me cringe at that god-awful line.

the coolest thing about ahsoka is her character was dismissed at first in the first clone wars movie. then she slowly but surely gained the love from fans as the tv series went on and proved itself to be solid as an star wars weve seen. This is actually very common with media as it ages and gets time tested, new generations grow up with it as their nostalgia. It's why I don't hate on new generations, I treat them as more content. Esp when it comes to cartoons. Like tmnt imo gets better every iteration, or al least its never a subtraction.

Eh, to be fair tho… Ahsoka wasn’t written particularly well when she first debuted (possibly by design). She became more beloved as the character herself grew and evolved, and we spent more time with her. The show itself also improved greatly as it went on. The prequel movies never really got all that better. I think it’s just that the kids who loved it as kids, and have a fondness for it, have all grown up and started singing their praises despite the obvious flaws, much like fans of the original trilogy did. The prequels themselves never “got better” as they went along. Ahsoka as a character, however, very much did.

@@khalduras784THAT, I agree. I always hate when people say that stuff like “The Clone Wars” makes the prequels better. No, it doesn’t. A TV series doesn’t excuse poor direction, poor acting and poor writing of a movie series. The Prequel ERA is certainly given a new lease on life for sure. The Prequel MOVIES are still poor to mediocre movies that failed to do what the TV series succeeded in.

The major flaw I see in Ahsoka, appart from some pacing issues in the first couple of episodes, is that you really need to watch Clone Wars and specially Rebels to have the necessary context to fully understand it, enjoy it and have an emotional connection with it. Yes, you can fill in most of the gaps, but it's not the same. If you watched those animated series, then Ahsoka is perhaps the best Star Wars content of the last decade.

Pretty fair review all things considered. The show is not without its issues, but I thought the last couple of episodes worked pretty well. Hayden Christiansen had a fantastic turn in ep 5. I also really enjoyed the ending of episode 5. Star Wars can be plenty dark and gritty, but in the end, it needs to remain hopeful at its core. The end of episode 5 captured that.

Why can’t they give Obi Wan and Anakin this treatment? The biggest problem with their relationship is I never felt like they were best friends or bothers - they just told us. I would probably say the Clone Wars show has interactions between Obi Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka that make you get their bonds. If there is anything I could compare the guys to offhand, it's Batman and Nightwing; still a mentor looking at his former student, but they are clearly less formal and Anakin gets to take the reigns. They're more like bros than father and son or teacher and student. Similar feelings are with Anakin and Ahsoka as she's given more leadership roles and independence. There is even an episode late in the series where Anakin thinks Obi is dead and is ready to start wrecking some fools (involving a deep cover mission). There is definitely love there.

@@Montesama314I know but that’s not my point. My point is, I shouldn’t have to watch a whole cartoon series to understand the bond between Obi Wan & Anakin. I kinda get what Martin is saying with Anakin appearing but I'd say if you knew the lore between the World between Worlds and like Kory (sorry for misspelling if applicable) the connection between padwan and master...it will make more sense. Also Ahsoka always blamed herself for Anakin becoming Darth Vader because she left him. What was shown in the show is closure for that for her. Frees her somewhat of that guilt. U can see her dermeter changed right after she returned. She was more upbeat as if some sort of weight was lifted from her. I'd argue if she didnt go through that experience she would not have thought to use the purgil to follow Baylan and company to the next galaxy. In regards to Kory (again apologies for misspelling if applicable) the appearance of Luke to scoop up Grogu to train him opens up more the lore of Luke starting his own Jedi school which has not been explained in past Star Wars movies / shows to date. It kinda connects to when he was training Solo's son. So I'd say for that reason not just ANY Jedi could of appeared at the end of season 2 only for the reason of more insight into Luke's school. if they just didnt want to explore that aspect yea pretty much almost any Jedi appearing would have been cool. To each their own opinions. No shade at all. Thanks for vid!

For me Andor and Ahsoka are the prime examples of truly great Star Wars television. Certain fans can say Andor is "not" Star Wars all they want but at the end of the day it's Star Wars just like how Ahsoka is Star Wars. If I were to hand off the rains of who controls Star Wars to it would be Tony Gilroy and Dave Filoni. That will never happen because they are creatives at the end of the day. I think you are totally right about the word dignity and sadly or happily, Feloni has made the villains thoughtful and interesting. My problem with this series is that the villains are better than the main characters. Ahsoka, the character needs to step it up. What I really enjoy about this show and why I put it up there with the first 2 seasons of Mandalorian is the fact that while there are certain tropes associated with Star Wars present, this show clearly has a vision. In fact I'd argue outside the original trilogy, the animated Clone Wars and Rebels gave such high highs as a Star Wars fan because Filoni knows that there's more to Star Wars than just blowing up a planet destroyer. Also Martin's complaint about the reason Ahsoka and Anakain reunited wasn't just her being near death, she actually went to another realm that was established in Rebels. The whales were also introduced in Rebels and they heavily played a role in the Rebels finale

I said myself that the big thing holding the sequel trilogy back was a lack of cohesive vision. The movies didn't necessarily need the same director on all three movies, but they definitely needed someone to set out FROM THE START where the heck things were going. It's one reason that people were hooked on the MCU Infinity Saga: even if there wasn't a movie or character you loved, you still had something in the distance to look forward to.

To be fair, it was George Lucas who invented the character of Ahsoka. Lucas brought up one day that Anakin needed a padawan and Filoni was saying, "What? Anakin doesn't have a padawan." It's not Dave's fault that Ahsoka played such a large role in Star Wars animated and parts of what's current. Lucas pushed it. Filoni ran with it. Remember that Lucas was working side-by-side with Filoni throughout the first six seasons of Clone Wars and was only not involved in Season 7 because he had sold Star Wars by then. If anyone pushed Ahsoka into the Lucasverse, it was George Lucas.

Didn't advance the plot? We learn in this episode that Ahsoka was having trouble dealing with being a master and that's because she hadn't dealt with her past of being Anakin's padawan. She was failing Sabine because she couldn't get past her own feelings of guilt and anger towards her own master. By facing Anakin and getting this "last lesson" she grew and evolved past who she was before. That's why after she returns she is happy and smiling. Didn't advance the plot? Psh.

It is interesting how they have been "softening" things with Midicholorians. They haven't dismissed it or anything it's more like they have changed how they explain it - everyone can play piano but then you have genius like Beethoven - in that sort of way. Like in Rogue One you had that Donnie Yen character who can't use the force but was connected enough I guess to avoid being blasted by gunfire.

Funny, the threads when this show came out were loaded with complaints about all female cast (Kanan is dead, Zeb is reuniting with his people, Ezra is MIA), claiming fraud related to the viewing numbers, and endless complaints about how it was cast. People just want to love or hate something due to pedigree and internal politics more than anything. This is so far the best of the shows; it is paced better than the Mandalorian, has tighter writing than Book of Fett, and doesn't have the superfluous elements of Andor.

It really is tough to gauge if a “newbie” can get into this without the prior knowledge of Rebels and Clone Wars. I do question which episodes Martin saw which didn’t win him over. If he’s talking about the first two seasons, then I can understand since those episodes were very standalone. Season 3 is where the show got more serialized and the quality graduated to what fans think of it now in retrospect. That being said, while there is merit to criticizing “Ahsoka” for not doing enough to get novice viewers up to speed on things that have happened in previous series, you might have to apply that notion to comic book movies (ie. MCU) that bank on you of having knowledge of 20+ previous movies. Simply, this show just isn’t for that kinda viewer. Filoni even kinda refers to this show as “Rebels, Season Five”. Much like something like an “Infinity War” or “Endgame”, “Ahsoka” might just simply be something that is strictly for those fans who have kept up with this lore. As someone who has kept up, I’m loving it. Can’t speak for anyone who hasn’t. It’s a tough position for the franchise to be in. Glad Korey seems to be enjoying more, despite only passing knowledge of what’s being referenced. Not really surprised by Martin’s response, given he feels that the fan-service seems to be just that, and not something that built on previous stories…… which, to be fair, is what fans of any property want: a logical continuation/expansion of what they know to be.
