What do Baptists really believe? Why are denominations so different?
What makes Baptist churches unique? What do we believe that makes us distinct from other churches?
(visit www.djharry.org/connect for special access to notes and outlines for this series)
This is part one in a study that will cover the "Baptist Distinctives" and the doctrines that set Baptists apart from other denominations. For more information about Pastor Harry and his ministry, visit www.djharry.org.
Baptists are distinct in their belief system. It stems from a desire to make God’s Word the foundation of every belief, never putting the traditions of man or the teachings of our fathers above the authority of Scripture.
Biblical Authority - The Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. No decree of men or of any council of churches can supersede the Bible (2Tim 3:16,17)
Autonomy of the Local Visible Church - The local church is an independent body accountable only to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church. No religious hierarchy outside the local visible church may dictate a church's beliefs or practices (Col 1:8)
Priesthood of Believers - Every believer today is a priest of God and may enter into His presence directly through our Great High Priest, Jesus Christ. No human mediator is needed between God and man (1 Peter 2:5-9)
Two Ordinances - The local visible church practices only two ordinances, Baptism by immersion in water and Lord's Supper, or communion (Mat 28:19,20; 1 Cor. 11:23-32)
Individual Soul Liberty - Every individual has the liberty and responsibility to believe as his own conscience dictates, within the framework of the Word of God. No one is forced to assent to any belief against his will. However, this doctrine does not grant a license to sin or to continually oppose the practices of the Church based upon Scripture (Rom. 14:5-12)
Saved Church Membership - Local, visible church membership is restricted to individuals who give believable testimony of a personal faith in Christ and publicly identified themselves with Him in believer's baptism (Acts 2:41-47)
Two Offices - Pastor and Deacon - Only two Biblically mandated offices exist in the Church: Pastor and Deacon. These two offices exist within the local visible church, not as a hierarchy outside of or over the local church (1 Tim 3:1,13)
Separation of Church and State - God established both the Church and the civil government, and gave each its own distinctive sphere of operation. Neither should control the other (Matt. 22:15-22)

A person must be “baptized” to be saved, but it has nothing to do with water. The proof is found below. Old Covenant Baptism vs. New Covenant Baptism (water vs. Spirit) Water baptism was a part of the Old Covenant system of ritual washing. The Old Covenant priests had to wash before beginning their service in the temple. (Ex. 30:17-30) When Christ was water baptized by His cousin John in the Jordan River, He was under the Old Covenant system. He also only ate certain foods, and wore certain clothes, as prescribed by the 613 Old Covenant laws. Christ was water baptized by John and then the Holy Spirit came from heaven. (Acts 10:38) The order is reversed in the New Covenant. A person receives the Holy Spirit upon conversion, and then believers often declare their conversion to their friends and family through a water baptism ceremony. Which baptism makes you a member of Christ’s Church? The New Covenant conversion process is described below. (Born-again) Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (A person must “hear” the Gospel, and “believe” the Gospel, and will then be “sealed” with the Holy Spirit.) Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (See Jer. 31:34 for the New Covenant promise, and 1 John 2:27 for the fulfillment) ============ Which baptism is a part of the salvation process, based on what the Bible says? What did Peter say below? Acts 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Based on Luke 3:16, and John 1:33, and Acts 1:5, and Acts 11:15-16, the most important thing about the word "baptize" in the New Testament has nothing to do with water. The Holy Spirit is the master teacher promised to New Covenant believers in Jeremiah 31:34, and John 14:26, and is found fulfilled in Ephesians 1:13, and 1 John 2:27. Unfortunately, many modern Christians see water/ every time they read the word "baptize" in the text. Based on the above, what is the one baptism of our faith found in the passage below? How many times is the word "Spirit" found in the passage, and how many times is the word "water" found in the passage? Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, Eph 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (See 1 Cor. 12:13) “baptize” KJV Mat_3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Mar_1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Water or Holy Spirit?, See Eph. 1-13.) Luk_3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Joh_1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; Joh_1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 1Co_1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (See Eph. 4:1-5) Heb 9:10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. (Old Covenant ----> New Covenant)

I really enjoyed learning about baptists churches. It is very refreshing to me. I've just come out of an FLDS Mormon church and I want to find a church to attend that believes the Bible is important, and also cares about obeying all of the teachings of the Savior, but still allows free agency in following the dictates of our own conscience. I would love to attend a Baptist church in my area. Thank you!

Stephen, there will be no denominations in heaven, so why be in one on the earth? I am so disillusioned with what is called "Religion" l am saved by the blood of Jesus Christ my Saviour! It's by the grace of God and through the power of the Holy Spirit l am assured of it.

Can l ask you, do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour? That has to come first before you can understand, when l say, l believe in One God, who has three personalities: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. John 14:6, "Jesus (THE SON OF GOD) saith unto him (Thomas), "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE: NO MAN COMETH UNTO (GOD) THE FATHER, BUT BY ME." Matthew 28:18-20, "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, "ALL POWER IS GIVEN UNTO ME IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH. GO YE THEREFORE, AND TEACH ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY GHOST: TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED YOU: AND, LO, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD." I don't mean to criticise, but surely if you only listen to 'God's word' then that is a recipe for narrow mindedness. It means that whatever people say or you read you will only follow the Bible. I'm an atheist, but I am happy to talk to religious people, without fear of them changing my mind, This is because if they persuade me to believe that I am wrong then presumably they will have made a good argument.

Sure...and thanks for leaving a comment. I laughed when I read this comment this afternoon because I actually preached from John 4 this evening...where Jesus talks to the Samaritan Woman about true worship. So here are my thoughts....Baptist churches are very independent in how they function from congregation to congregation. I have been in Baptist churches where there was clapping, raising hands, and lots of shouting. I have been in some very quiet churches as well. I think it has to do with the specific church that you visited. However...as a general rule...Baptist churches do tend to be quieter than other denominations. I just think it is how many were raised and what they deem as appropriate worship for them individually. Thanks again! DJ

@@wandalester7253 Grace and peace from the Lord Jesus Christ and from God our Father. My testimony: I believe in Jesus Christ. The reason I believe in Jesus is because I heard God's message about Him, preached from an authorized King James Version (KJV) book of His Word and His words. After hearing the message, I believed it. God has faith His blood is propitiation for my lifetime of sin, and I too believe His shed blood pays for my sins and the sins of the world. After believing, I turned back to God. That's what it means to repent. And after turning back to God, I put my full trust and faith in Jesus and in what He did. I am fully persuaded, just like Abraham, that God, who cannot lie, will do everything just as He has promised. I declared and do declare His righteousness, and He imputed it on me, a believer in Jesus! My testimony includes what justifies me to stand before God. It matches Romans 3:24-26. Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Now hear Romans 1:18-3:20 and you have heard the full clear gospel. classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=rom.+1%3A18-3%3A20&version=KJV

I am a Landmark Missionary Baptist. Lately our Pastor has taught things that I have not been taught. I was taught all of my life that the saved in Christ go to Paradise and at the time of the 2nd coming, He will bring those souls with Him, and the graves will come forth thereby the Glorified body is given at that time. Out Pastor is now saying that we receive our Glorified body the moment we die. Vicky, I don't know of any one particular denomination that teaches each of those as a whole. I would say that even in Baptist churches (I am a Baptist) there is the propensity to teach what "sounds" good when it comes to death, eternity, and our glorified bodies. Often this comes up at funerals...and WOW....it is amazing what "theology" is pulled out of thin air to make people feel better about their loved ones. Our loved ones become angels...God needed them more than we needed them....They are singing and dancing with grandma....They will be waiting for you when you "cross over." Each of these is rooted in a wrong understanding of heaven, eternity, and the resurrection. I'm sorry I don't have a definitive answer for you. I hope God gives you wisdom and discernment as you study His Word!! DJH

I'm a Baptist Church member from India. I agree as far as Baptist being based it's doctrines and fundamental practices from the Bible. But the Bible itself is a compilation of many books author by different people where some books were left out like book of Barnabas, book of Enoch. I have the understanding that they were left out because they don't meet certain set of standard or principal. And nowhere in any book tells about those standard , it is a pure human invention. I hope those invention are purely inspired by God or else everything Baptist believe seems to fall flat.

As a standalone book the Bible is just like any other book. But when you put the Authority of the Church that existed without the Book for 300+ years after Christ, then the Book has its Authority. I would invite you to look into the Catholic Church which is the original Christian Church where all the early Church Fathers agreed in many many Catholic doctrines that are still true today :) God Bless you on your Journey!

The doctrines presented here, most of them I agree with, but IDK about the last one. We are to submit to our governing authorities (Romans 13), unless the government is telling us to do something that is against what God said to do, because God has the ultimate authority, then government. Our obedience to our government should not be based on feelings alone. This is what I believe.

@DJHarryMedia 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. In the NT we see a shift away from the OT law as Christ became the fulfillment of the law. Because of that, many of the ceremonial aspects of the Jewish law we're done away with and no longer needed. What we do find in the New Testament is the early church beginning to meet on Sundays in the book of acts and described in Paul's epistles. Since Christ rose from the dead on the first day of the week, which is Sunday, that became the day that believers gathered together to worship. Regarding the 10 Commandments specifically, each of the 10 Commandments are reinforced in the New Testament as a standard for living except for the commandment to remember the Sabbath. For those reasons, most Christians follow the New Testament tradition and gather for worship on the first day of the week… On Sunday.

Hello Patrick! I'm not sure what you were asking in the first question. As to the second, Yes...saved by grace through faith. Don't confuse faith with simple belief. Yes the demons believe and tremble. In the Gospels the demons call Jesus by name and refer to him as "Master" and yet that did not signify faith. Only consent. Faith goes one step further and acts on that belief. Faith is trusting that what you believe about Jesus is true and leaning on him alone for your salvation.

It probably fits within individual soul liberty to decide in faith if (appropriately) drinking alcohol is okay for you. If your conscience is informed by reading the Bible and the Holy Spirit, and you still come away with a genuine conviction why you shouldn't drink (perhaps like because of an alcoholic parent) then Roman's 14:23 says it would be a sin to drink if you think God doesn't want you to. @@bobsellers4565 Well my guy you better do more research so if someone comes to tell you otherwise you'll not be easily deceived. The word "trinity" is not in the Bible. But the early and now christians came to believe in this concept because is the only way you can make sense of the gospels and Jesus. You see, Jesus very clearly claimed to be God in the gospels, multiple times, but He also spoke with God the Father, and Jesus claimed that He and the Father are one. That whatever the Father does, the Son also does. Jesus also spoke of the Holy Spirit and said that whatever blasphemy is said against the Son it will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. Paul also equates the Holy Spirit along with Jesus and God the Father in his letters. Only God can carry the burden of everyone's sins, past and future, and be able to forgive by shedding His own blood. Thats why Jesus died. When Thomas saw Jesus resurrected, he kneeled down and said: " My Lord and My God" What did Jesus say? "Because you have seen me you have believed, blessed are those who haven't seen yet believe." There are multiple other passages I can look up. But you have to be ready to defend your faith, as it said on the letter of Petter. Stay safe

monyette Drew Hey....celebrating the birth of the Savior is the central theme of Christmas and celebrating the resurrection of Christ is the theme of Easter. These are inherently Biblical themes. DJ Harry I know that but my stance is it’s still a tradition of the world that was past down and changed generations to generations. December 25 is the sun god pagan birthday they use to celebrate in other parts of the world.. Easter is really a fertility holiday to celebrate Ishtar the Babylonian goddess of fertility . So the symbols from each holiday then reflects what they used today’s world like the Christmas tree and the Easter egg. My point is even if we don’t consider it to be holy why do people celebrate it if it’s not of the Bible. Even the Bible talks about in Jeremiah chapter 7 through 10 has descriptions of these holidays. All humans did was just change it to justify why a reason to celebrate it.or in the Catholic Church stance when it empire was first being built when trying to get people to consolidate into Christianity they took pagan traditions in just stamp bible description unto it to get people to into Christianity .Is it right though? Then there’s Colossians 2:8.

The word Christian should not be a broad term. There is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. We cannot accept anything other than what is boldly proclaimed in the New Testament to model the Church after. Christians are part of The Lord’s Church and should only be limited to his Church. This definitely makes the term limited. No follower of a man made doctrine should consider themselves a Christian. Interesting video though, I appreciate it.

I've read the Bible a few times, fully several times after I became Catholic. Since Protestantism is based on Proof Texts, and not the Bible in context. Never saw the thing you rail against as the only necessary component to salvation. I did see in the Bible where we needed to be Baptized unto the remission of sins. I also saw in the Bible that we must submit ourselves to the Authority of those St. Paul and the Apostles laid their hands on, as they were fellow laborers in the Vineyard. I read that Jesus laid hands on the Apostles and breathed on them, telling them who's sins they forgave were forgiven. I read that we are to go unto the entire world preaching Christ Jesus to every creature. I read that Paul calls himself the Spiritual Father of those in his charge, and in the NT that Abraham is called our Father Abraham. I read nowhere the commandment to write and publish a book, Paul tells us to take regard to what he has taught be it by letter or word, but not to copy print and distribute it. Nor does he tell us, or can I find any list of which writings are Scripture and which are not. Jesus says in the original Greek, unless you chew on my body and drink my blood, you will have no life within you. Then there is the passage at the Last Supper usually mistranslated as "Do this in Memorion of Me." But the Greek uses the term Anmensis, which any Jew who celebrated the Pasch would recognize as Jews who celebrated the ritual were instructed that to do so was to no longer say, "This is what God did for my forefathers," But he can now say, "This is what God has done for me." By participating in the rite, God has brought him out of Egypt, he has made a past event present. In the same way that Jesus makes the Last Supper and the Crucifixion present when a man He shared his priesthood with fulfills his Anmensis by offering the same sacrifice in a different manner. The Bible is very important and Inspired by God, but we are told even the Devil can quote it. (it does not say so, but I'll assume he does it using Proof Texts and out of context.) I can go on, but I think you get the picture.

@@thomasfolio4357 Exactly... I think that depending on the person, the Eucharist and the NEED for an Authoritative Church are the two biggest light bulbs that a Protestant might have to get them to consider if the Catholic Church is the True Church.

@@PatrickSteil As I think Catholics will agree, Authoritative is taken by many Protestants as a Church which dictates to them rather than the Authority Christ gave the Apostles to accomplish His will, and teach in His name. In the ancient world a to know a person's name is to have his power or his authority. So when the Apostles and their successors act with Christ's authority, they do so to uphold and protect sound doctrine, not to invent or change it. They are restricted to what they were given. As John Henry Cardinal Newman discovered when he was still a Protestant and was trying to find a magic bullet to bring down the "False" teachings of the Catholic Church, (and later became his book, "On the Development of Doctrine" the Church did not invent doctrines, but over the centuries as she pondered the Sacred Scriptures, became more deeply immersed in how wonderful God's Grace and His Love for us is. We see the same thing in the Scriptures, our Lord preaches to the multitude, then afterward He goes into the mountainside with His closest Disciples and explains more deeply the message He had just taught. The Gospel does not tell us what He said to them in that private teaching, but they pondered and understood it, not as a secret doctrine, but to help them guide the Church after our Lord had ascended into heaven, and the authority to teach and govern the Church was given to them. Without that Authority, we see the everyday fraction of the Body of Christ in the growing number of Protestant Churches that start up each day and those that wither and die out,

Baptism has never been part of salvation but was linked to identification as a believer in the NT. The few verses you chose are only used to teach baptismal regeneration because the English translation and word order creates the illusion that baptism is linked to salvation. When studied and understood in context, non of them teach that false doctrine. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Nothing more. Nothing less.

He is describing what should be, not what actually is. Sadly our Baptist churches have largely failed to defy tyrants in the government who illegally called for the suspension of church services. Too long we have adopted a ridiculous and largely unqualified adherence to governmental mandates based on a sophist interpretation of Roman's 13. This same apathy towards correcting government is what has kept us from taking direct physical action to oppose wicked people murdering innocents in our midst. The church could have stood up, instead we hide behind Romans 13 and convenient interpretations for cowardice and inaction.

Hi i was christened at 2 years old and raised in a roman Catholic Church. Until 6yrs ago I walked into a evangelical church and was stunned with the teaching of the gospels. This doesn't happen in the Catholic Church it's the same every week. Almost like they are hiding the true words of the gospels because this would put them to shame. I believe Jesus is my saviour and I am born again in christ and a priest cannot absolve us of sins, it clearly says in the gospels that only through christ may we come to the father. And we must ask for that and repent. Then getting baptised as a symbol of being born again. Iam hoping to get baptised soon, God willing. I hope I am not offending you as I am still learning and always will be. God bless you 🙏 🕊️

Hello Pastor DJ. I am searching for truth. I have learned about what Sacred Tradition is in the Catholic Church. You said that the biggest focus is for you to lean God’s word instead of the “traditions of men”. But doesn’t every denomination do this? I assume you preach every Sunday to share with your congregation what you believe God is telling you about scripture X. Aren’t you asking them to listen and consider your “tradition” you are teaching them? How do you know if what you are teaching is the Truth according to God? This was my problem in the Methodist church I left. I was a youth pastor. I was teaching them what I thought was the truth but anyone could have come and challenged me at any time with another version of the Truth. I finally realized there has to be some trusted “authority” to help us interpret based on the very best minds and theologians, etc. Why would I as someone who studies the Word for a few hours a week think that I can teach better than the tradition of what the church holds as truth for 2000 years. I am not trying to be antagonistic. I truly want to know if I could find Truth at a Baptist church and why I could find it better there than at a Catholic Church? Thanks and God Bless your ministry regardless :)

My beloved friends and neighbors. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Read Mathew 28:19. According to Acts 2:38, after you Repent of your sins, you then are baptuzed in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of those sins, and the receive the Holy Ghost and you know you received this when you speak in tongues as the Spirit gives you the utterance. The Holy Ghost is Jesus Christ IN YOU. WE ALL NEED AND MUST RECEIVE THIS BECAUSE THIS IS THE POWER TO WITNESS AND DO THE WORKS OF JEDUS IN THE EARTH! John the Baptist told the people to believe on Jesus because He would baptize them with the Holy Ghost and Fire. You can't worship God in Spirit and truth without the Holy Ghost. If you can, please tell me how. Baptism in water is being buried with Christ. Death is repentance, water baptism is burial and receiving the Holy Ghost is the completion of being born again of the water snd the Spirit. Praise God!

Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no man cometh to the Father but by me. Jesus is the authority. He is the I AM. He said before Abraham was I AM. He was the God that spoke to Moses in the burning bush. He is the God of the old and the new covenants. He is God manifested in the flesh. Jesus is my Heavenly Father. He was the sacrifice for my sins and He is my comforter who lead and guides me into ALL TRUTH. Let God be true and every man a liar. Man and the devil lies, but, not God; He will not and cannot lie! The devil believes in one God and trembles! Read it in James. He wants people to believe in a trinity. Not me. Oh no. Not now or never! The first commandment is Hear o Israel, the Lord our God is ONE. You can join all the organizations you want and before God you will never receive salvation. One church. One Lord, one fsith, one baptism. You Must be born AGAIN. WHATEVER YOU CLAIM TO BE, IF YOU HAVEN'T OBEYED ACTS 2:38, YOU HAVE NOT BEEN BORN AGAIN. I'm not being unkind. I love you with His love. When you love you tell the truth. The truth is what makes us free. If you'll obey Acts 2:38 you will be a new creature. Old things pass away, and all things become new. It's true!

@@josephhall790 I agree with everything you said. And for my 30+ year walk with God I believed the same but then I figured out something was missing. In the Methodist church (and the same can be said for all Protestant churches) there is not One Truth in One God. If there are 12 million members in the Methodist church there are 12 million personal interpretations of “the truth”. That church is about to split over the questions whether or not to allow homosexual marriage and homosexual pastors. The church is not setup or designed or even desires to get to God’s Truth on how they should decide this. They want unity but you can’t have unity based on everyone having a personal interpretation of the scripture. What they believe in is “my scripture” instead of “Holy Scripture”. The Catholic Church is the only church that is designed in its hierarchy and Sacred Tradition to determine the proper and historic interpretation of what the Holy Scripture says and protects it from changing based on what the culture of the day or country or any man’s interpretation might try to change it. I want to know that the Holy Scripture I am following has had the same Truth for 2000 years. If there is One God and One Truth there should only be One Church. Think of our witness in the World today. The World has lost its mind and is willing to believe all kinds of “truths”. And if you or I try to witness to them that they need to follow Gods truth they can turn to us and say “what version of the “truth” do you mean? The Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, etc, etc, etc, etc?????? No the only version of The Truth is in the One Church established by Jesus when he told Peter - you are Rock and on you I will build my church. Let me know if you want some book or videos to watch on this subject.

@@PatrickSteil thank you Patrick for that disortation. As you will notice in the comments, I never mentioned a organization or denomination or personal belief. Matthew 16 gives the account of who Jesus is and who Peter is. All the apostles were Jewish, one God believers. When Peter told Jesus that He was the Christ, the Son (lamb, flesh) of the living God, Peter was saying, you are who we've been looking for, the ONE God of Israel. Jesus said to Peter, you're right. I'm going to build MY CHURCH on what you preach and teach. You know who I am and I know who you are. Luke 22:32 Jesus tells Peter to strengthen the brethren after he's been converted. That happened in the book of Acts. Read it for yourself. It's in THE BIBLE, THE BOOK. When Peter stood on the day of Pentecost, the crowd asked them what shall we do? The question reaches down to you and I today. It's the same answer as it was then. Acts chapter two and verse thirty eight. Read it. Read chapter 10. Read chapter 19. Read about apostle Paul's conversion. Read what he asked the Lord who He is. God spoke back and told Paul "I am Jesus". The catholic way was introduced in 325 a d by Constantine introducing the doctrine of the trinity. When a group of philosophers get together and decide for themselves who God is, the devil is right in the middle of it. God Himself tells us who He is. Read the book of James where the devil believes in one God and trembles. The trinity is a fabricated lie from the pits of hell. Satan, lucifer, the devil, created by God decided he would be like God, he was kicked out of Heaven with one third of the angels. These lying devils are out to deceive humanity into believing lies, not truth. The devil is a liar and the father of lies and the Bible says their is NO TRUTH IN HIM. The only God their is, is Jesus. Read 1 John 5:20 and tell me what it says. Romans 1: 27 tells us what God thinks of the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah. Their is no vote. It's settled. Read it Patrick, read it and believe it. As a matter of fact, check out everything I've written and prove it wrong scripturally from the word of God. I wish you would. Show me your church in the Bible. I showed you mine. One God, one faith, one baptism, one church, one head, one body, one heaven, one hell. When it all over here, it's Heaven or hell. Mathew 11:28-30. Read it. Read it. He is calling you to repentance. God wants to set you free. I take authority over every demonic spirit and loose the truth of Jesus Christ upon your life, in Jesus Name. The blood of Jesus is real today and forever!

I think you need to re-study Acts 17 and see if it was really the Thessalonians who were "more noble". The church of Christ believes all seven of those items, with the exception that we do not call them sacraments (because the Bible doesn't call them that). We also do not have a one-man pastor system. That's Catholicism - and there is always a plurality of elders in a congregation, if they have qualified men.
