HIGHLY RECOMMEND reacting to Pavel Datsyuk. He's a future Hall of Famer and one of if not the most creative player to play in the NHL and VERY talented offensively and defensively. IMO: the best highlight videos are a 4 part hour long each video series that showcases his whole career and what made "The Magic Man" so special. A dangle can be a deke, but not necessarily. A deke implies changing the puck between forehand/backhand, while a toe-drag dangle generally keeps the puck on the same hand. They all do get misused, though, which further increases confusion. Like when an NFL announcer calls a jet sweep a reverse, for example.

I was going to answer your question at 1:07 but then I just decided to be a tool and list them all out for you. 😁 A couple took some close looking or listening and a little bit of Googling but I mostly got there. 1. Nazem Kadri, then of the Toronto Maple Leafs, now with the Calgary Flames 2. Evgeny Kuznetsov of the Washington Capitals 3. Pavel Datsyuk (prounounced DAT-suk or DAHT-sook, then of the Detroit Red Wings, now retired 4. Jonathan Toews (pronounced TAYZ) of the Chicago Blackhawks 5. Alexander (or Alex) Ovechkin, Ovi, of the Washington Capitals 6. Taylor Hall, then of the Edmonton Oilers, now with the Boston Bruins 7. I'm having trouble figuring out the players team (they're playing at the Flyers, I know that!) or the number of the player. Number might start with a 3? Someone else might need to help me with this one. 8. Jason Spezza (pronounced SPET-zuh, like pizza), then of the Ottawa Senators, now retired 9. Ovi again 10. Zdeno Chára, then of the Boston Bruins, now retired. As the announcer said, all of 6 feet 9 inches and still able to play a nimble defense, hit pinpoint slap shots from the blue line, and occasionally score goals like that. Total cheat code for those 2010s Bruins. 11. Spezza again 12. Blake Wheeler, then of the Boston Bruins, now with the Winnipeg Jets 13. Andreas Athanasiou (don't ask me how to pronounce it here; I can kinda mimic what I hear the broadcasters usually say but I wouldn't know how to type it out), then of the Detroit Red Wings, now with the Chicago Blackhawks 14. Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins 15. Vladimir Tarasenko, then of the St. Louis Blues, now with the New York Rangers, who he scored on here ironically enough 16. Nathan (or Nate) MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche playing here with a team of North American under-24s in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. The WCH is an odd tournament which is sanctioned by the NHL and not the International Ice Hockey Federation who puts on the Olympic hockey tournaments and has its own world championships (although big NHL stars don't always participate in that). The WCH has only been put on a few times and this last time in 2016, it included senior teams from the US and Canada, this age group North America team from both US and Canada, all-age teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, and Sweden (seen here), and a Team Europe with players from all other European nations not already represented. 17. Ovi again 18. Datsyuk again 19. Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers 20. Probably Datsyuk again but based on the graininess of the footage, could be Slava Kozlov (they had the same numbers but Kozlov left Detroit and then Datsyuk took it over) 21. Mario Lemieux (pronounced Luh-MYOO) then of the Pittsburgh Penguins, now long retired. Super Mario, one of the greats, definitely worth a further watch. 22. Ovi again 23. Sydney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins 24. Jordan Eberle (pronounced EBB-er-lee) 25. MacKinnon again, now actually playing for the Avalanche 26. Peter Forsberg, then of the Colorado Avalanche, now retired 27. Benoît Pouliot (pronounced POOL-ee-ott) then of the Boston Bruins, now retired 28. Rick Nash, then of the Columbus Blue Jackets, now retired 29. Denis Savard, then of the Chicago Blackhawaks, now long since retired 30. Matt Duchene, then of the Colorado Avalanche, now with the Nashville Predators 31. Too quick and grainy. Can't even tell who he plays for or who they were playing against. Someone's going to have to know this specific play or have seen it in a better highlight somewhere. 32. Pavel Bure (pronounced BOOR-AY), then of the Vancouver Canucks, now long since retired 33. Lemieux again 34. Johan Franzén, then of the Red Wings, now retired 35. Patrick Kane, then of the Chicago Blackhawks, most recently with the New York Rangers but is currently a free agent 36. Steve Yzerman, then of the Detroit Red Wings, long since retired 37. Datsyuk or Kozlov again 38. Bobby Ryan, then of the Anaheim Ducks, now retired 39. Thomas Vanek, then of the Minnesota Wild, now retired 40. Ilya Kovalchuk, then of the New Jersey Devils, now retired 41. Too fast, can't make anything out 42. Definitely Datsyuk this time

I think the greatest piece of skill, at least that I've seen, is the Alex Ovechkin goal on his back. It's early on in this video but you should check out a better look at it. As far as someone who is consistently a magician with the puck, check out Pavel Datsyuk at some point!

Your question about the greatest piece of skill ever performed is a tough one because of that video arguably has all of them. The one where Alex Ovechkin is scoring on his back (1:25) is a classic, in part because it was early in his legendary career, and the coach of the opposing team happened to be the guy who owns the career goal record he is now chasing, Wayne Gretzky. I think Gretzky called it the greatest goal he's ever seen. I have a suggestion for you. Since the beginning of the millennium, before Connor McDavid started to dominate, there were five players who were in a class of their own: the aforementioned Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and 2 goalies, Henrik Lundqvist and Carey Price. Lundqvist is retired and Price should follow him soon because of a knee injury that won't heal. I recommend checking out highlights of any of these players, but I have a soft spot for Price, who did amazing things but was in the wrong organization at the wrong time, and couldn't win because of it. Here's a good video to react to: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGGUe5yJmLefbbc

Honestly, this is the best part of hockey. Not the hits - though they are awesome to see. Not the fights. The dangles, and the saves are what make hockey so friggin' special. The skill level today is just absolutely insane, and getting better every year. I do love the Rick Nash (Columbus #61) goal that was in this video, and I love the Nazem Kadri rush too (Toronto #43). Watching players take the puck to the net, while the defenders do everything to keep them from it, is so satisfying - whether it results in a goal or not.

I agree. I've been watching hockey for 70+ yrs and the skill levels & creativity are insane now. But it's the speed + skill that really gets me. Some guys can do the skill, some the speed but the best of the best have both. McDavid has that like no one I can recall.

The goal of Ovechkin falling on his back after the deke and one-handing it in the goal is called "The Goal" and what made it better was he was versus Wayne Gretzky's team he was coaching at the time (Phoenix Coyotes). It's unbelievable doing this at high speeds while using a different form of transportation than just your shoes. Best saves or best shootout goals would be great reactions. As for Damo's question about best skill play, it's probably something Connor McDavid has done, that guy's absolutely unreal. You'll see some contenders for that on a best of Connor McDavid vid.

If you want to get into one of the greatest players that's still playing (though at the tail end of his career), I'd suggest following Alex Ovechkin. He's the all-time leading power play scorer in history, and the #2 in goals all time (and hopefully will surpass Gretzky in the next 2 years). He's the captain of the Washington Capitals. He's got great hands, an amazing one-timer, he hits, he's energetic, and has lots of highlight videos about him (some of the goals in this video were Ovi's).

Funny that most of these were by Pavel Datsyuk lol. I remember watching his breakaway goal against Marty Turco live I was so blown away by it. I've never seen a deke like that before. The best camera angle of it too is the ice level one facing Turco directly; it's a better view of Datsyuk's sudden sharp break to the right and really shows just how fooled Turco was. Greatest piece of skill ever performed by a hockey player? I'm not sure exactly what you mean but I heard a story that Todd Bertuzzi was strong enough to puck handle with one hand on his stick without getting tired. It was pretty common for him to shield people from the puck with his body and one arm while controlling the puck effortlessly with his other arm on the stick. He used to be really good at puck control because of that. I'm not sure how common that skill is for big men because I don't really look for it. Usually players have both hands on the stick.

I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest skill, but the greatest even has to be the night Mario Lemieux scored a goal all 5 ways that you could score a goal in one game. It was the first and last time it happened in NHL history.

These guys are incredible. They’re not just great athletes. They’re acrobats. I still don’t know much about this game, but it’s apparent how much skill it takes to play at this level.

The "best piece of skill" is very subjective and, for me, comes down to three different sub-categories. Hands, skating, and straight circus. The problem is that the guys playing today are pulling off some of the nastiest skill moves ever night now. We used to marvel when someone pulled off a between the legs goal or a Michigan and that was going to be hands down the goal of the year. Now you have dudes pulling off between the legs goals every week and Trevor Zegras does stuff with the puck that you never thought you could pull off in an actual NHL game. Best hands piece of skill: "The Dish-igan" Trevor Zegras to Sonny Millano. Straight Ciirus: "The Goal" Alex Ovechkin on his back. It's in this video. Skating: Almost any Conor McDavid highlight or Cale Makar's "Spin Goal" in OT. No joke there are over a dozen right answers to each category. The guys playing today are next level. The creativity, the skill, the speed. It's nuts compared to where it was in 2005 (The Lockout).

Mario Lemieux, 1988. Scored 5 goals, 5 different ways. For context I would suggest watching a video on it. This accomplishment will never happen again. At least not in the NHL.

Wayne Gretzky’s career but you can’t say that all these guys are magicians. Hockey is he’s guys a more talented than a guy shooting a three pointer then an NFL throw think about the hand. I’ll coordination while you’re skating on thin blades with 15 pounds of equipment on you a helmet, big gloves, a stick and a heavy puck I mean just think about it they’re playing baseball they’re running sprints they’re playing soccer with the angles and the pass is the plan for different sports at once

Greatest skills in hockey in my opinion would be Datsyuks Dekes, Kanes stickhandling, Crosbys edge work and board work, Mathews release, Ovechkins shot velocity and accuracy, and Mcdavids ability to do most of those things at lightning fast speed.

Next hockey video: NHL Tic Tac Goals, AKA best passing plays kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5iYkmmYaJuZZrM I love the dangles but I prefer great passing. This is a great compilation of tiki-takaesque passing through congested areas and teams ruthlessly punishing opponents on the counter. Top class stuff

Guys, I’m lovin these NHL reactions. So you two have now seen a lot of what the NHL players have on offer. I know you give these players respect and acknowledgment. But my question for you is…. Are you guys going to be forever hockey fans going forward ? Or has all this just been a fun novelty to check out???!

to answer the question of "the greatest piece of skill performed by a hockey player ever?" Gretzky's entire career essentially and virtually every shift McDavid has or Vasy's saves in the lightning back-to-back cup runs for Tampa and most of Crosby's career along with Ovi and now that I'm thinking about it there's too much skill around the NHL over the years to pick any one moment

I think the most skillful hockey play ever isn't even a skating or dangling play, it was Mike Bossy scoring a Stanley Cup Finals goal in 1982 when he was mid-air, completely vertical, both skates in the air and he rips it into the back of the net. I don't even know how it was physically possible. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoazqH1snbydf68

The only issue I have with this reaction video is the terrible music. Hockey and rap/R&B do not go together. Whoever made the video with this music in it, should be fired and any music responsibilities pulled. Whether it was these 2 guys or the video people. So disappointing. And why does everyone keep putting "be respectful" disclaimers on comments. Stop censoring and grow some nuts

Hockey is really hard to single out one display of skill and say it’s the best ever seen (think plays like Ibrahimovic’s goal against England 😬 or anything rhonaldino ever did) and the closest thing I can think of would be pretty much everything Mcdavid does because we’ve just never seen it before. I’m biased but I personally still am blown away by how Peter Forsberg played or the Sedin twins. Sidney Crosby is another guy who just sees the game different but don’t waste your time with a top ten video of him. Doesn’t do him any justice gotta find a highlight video.

Many players have these skills, but teams play to formulas and percentages. In virtually all of these the player is on a breakaway, they have no support and are aren’t under a high expectation to score. Under those circumstances a lot of players will pull out trick moves that they would be criticized for if they failed to score n when they had line mates they could pass to. Many breakaways occur when a team is killing a penalty. The team on the power play tend to to pinch in, with two defenseman pretty much planted on the points close to the blue line. Usually the team killing the penalty will just focus on getting the puck out of the zone, by intercepting a pass. However if they can get proper possession, they will try and carry it out and take as much time as possible off the clock, under those circumstances, nobody will criticize a player who takes the puck all the way down the ice and tries some ‘trick moves' on the way, since it is burning time. When there is no advantage to taking time of the clock, players are less likely to try a low probability scoring attempt.
