Possibly due to our experience in all things war. For better or worse, many victories, many defeats but the Falklands weren't our first rodeo. Got me tears of joy after watching this , didn't know Brit's are so sensitive when it takes to speak about we Argentinians . You have such a class for everything, you are delightfuly respectful . Yes i had contact with Brit tourists when they come for travel at Buenos Aires . Let me tell you something it still keeps me amazed : the intellectual affinity we have to Brit people is enormous . The common sense and the sense of humor is so easy to feel one to each other ! After watching this footage (first of all , thanks to the interviewing guy for his brilliant job ) i reached a conclusion . Both Brits and Argies have a great potential for every kind of ventures . Then , if somebody still keeps the narrow mind for those unhappy 1982's affairs , right now is the moment to be clever like no ever : let's allow the kelpers to keep their lives alone as they always wished . Meanwhile, let's celebrate both Brits and Argentinians have a lot of good businesses to do , culture , turism, science , human rights , medical research , etc , etc , can you see it ? The newest generation of both countries are improving the nice friendship we always might care . Just seeing the lovely faces of the interviewed persons here , nothing will stop this warm feeling we have to the UK's friends . And my words enclose a lot of thanks as well 💚

When an Argentinian goes for traveling in London , Manchester or whatever a Brit town , we all get speechless because we met mainly enchanting people , they keep the smiling mood despite cloudy and rainy days , otherwise we Argies complain for everything. But if an event stucked the most , i should tell the facts from my brother Pablo who incidentally stayed last December 2022 in London . Every time he went to the restaurant or snack bars , sufficed the others realized he was Argentinian and automatically all folks were claiming Argentina, Argentina in loud demonstration perhaps because those were the days of Qatar's football worldcup , not to mention the Day of the Final between Argentina vs France . Quoted by my brother : "most Brits applauding the Argie team . Me neither in Italy experienced such a warm friendly public contact, that was a marvellous environment "

Love this video! and greetings! Only one detail that i seem to notice is that from outside often forget that at that time, we were in a dictatorship, led by a drunk monster in power, who was disappearing people, censoring many things, oppresing people and sending our country into chaos. And at the time, he initiated the war and sent our inexperienced and poorly and cruelly trained youth to die in the end of the world to divert the population attention, from the injustice, corruption and violence of the regime. In fact, there were negotiations at one point, that were going to be fruitful, and good diplomatic relations, but it was all frustrated after a serious of events, the dictatorship being one of them.

Nice interviews, i'm from Argentina, and i think that we learn the War of Malvinas, because we are a young country and we lost lot of young people (the people who participated in the war was 18/20 years old, they finish the high school and they were forced to join the military -because in the 70'/80' we had a dictatorial goverment-), so it was a big lost to Argentina. We are not a country that have military strategies, we are pacific, so we lost. It is amazing that in the british schools they do not study about this war. For argentinian people this war was an injury that doesn't heal. Although it is refreashing to hear people in their 40/50s that has good feelings towards Argentina. 😄

Hi, thank you for referring to Britain, not just England, there's a long time prevailing habit for the English & Argentinians to refer to the conflict as if it was only the English versus the Argentinians. Some of the rubbish excuses I have been given for this have been truly provocative. I am a Scot, therefore, I won't speak for Welsh, Northern Irish or for that matter, the English at this time. Many Scots like the aforementioned fought in that conflict, a disproportionate amount in fact, soldiers in the paras & marines, but also the Scots Guards at Mt Tumbledown. I alone, attended schools with four Scots that fought in the conflict. We are a proud & ancient people, we have never been part of England & never will be. The nation state currently at least, is the UK of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, not England, a video on this topic just can't only be on England & Argentina, it just can't. The conflict was so avoidable & yet it has led to so much ill feeling & should never have been allowed to get to that stage. I wish you & the beautiful people of Argentina the best of health, happiness & success. Best wishes from Scotland. Alba gu bràth! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇦🇷 PS: Sadly for reasons never explained, KZbin blacken out the ancient flag of Scotland, no explanation ever given, our flag dates back to the 9th century.

And before that we had to deal with napoleon, further back we've have centuries of war with France, the vikings, the Romans and on it goes. And you expect the British to be focused on a war they won in a matter of weeks with a few hundred dead. Millions died in the world wars and you expect the British to have the tiny Falklands war at the front of their minds. You're crazy

Footbol fans (most of them) in Argentina speak just Spanish and Rugby fans (very common )have English language Knowledge's and they are from different "social-class" . Ignorants could be racist but educated people rarely are. B&B are doing a interesting "social experiment". Argentina have a bast, diverse and cinematic geography but a quite terrible social situation and I'll say that the Brit wether are the equivalent to the hardest problems of Argentina. We're happy people and particularly I found England a place of amazing and open mind people, kind and loyal.sensible and intelligent . We can learning a lot from England and England can learning as well from us social skills (in some cases). England is full of sweet people and they are one of the best on the music industry globally . The colony's happen a long time ago and England and Argentina will be very good friends in the future when the mutual fear goes away. This vid is a very good start. What part isn't clear in the 21st century that we still have to explain this? Argentina has claimed sovereignty over the Falkland Islands since they became part of its territory after independence in 1816, even having its own Argentine government during that period. However, in 1833, the islands were illegally invaded by the United Kingdom without the consent of the Argentine government of the time. This British action was deemed illegitimate by Argentina and the international community. Since then, Argentina has maintained its sovereign claim over the Falkland Islands, supported by international law prohibiting the acquisition of territory by force. Therefore, Argentina's claim is based on both history, geography, and legal principles emphasizing the illegitimacy of the British occupation and Argentina's territorial integrity.

Stop spreading this garbage everywhere. Argentina never pressed any claim to the islands until 1829 through a British-backed business venture, which they had no right to do. That settlement got attacked by Americans in 1831 and then they set up a garrison in 1832, which was kicked out in 1833. Argentina appointed governors without consent from the United Kingdom and faced the consequences of its actions. Such an action was not deemed illegitimate by the international community and Argentina itself signed away its claim in 1850 and didn't bring it back until 1946. There was no law prohibiting acquiring territory by force in 1833, and thats not even what the British did. We came down to rightful British territory, told the Argentine garrison to get the hell out, and they did, without a single gunshot being fired.

It seems you need to learn more about history, real and documented history. It is essential to clarify historical inaccuracies about the Malvinas Islands and present the facts as they occurred: Spanish Sovereignty and Early Settlements: Discovery and Spanish Administration: The Malvinas Islands were sighted in 1520 by members of Magellan's expedition aboard the Spanish ship 'San Antonio'. Since then, the islands were included in the Spanish colonial domains and registered on European maps. Sevillian cartographer Andrés de San Martín made the first map of the islands in 1520. French Settlement and Recognition of Spanish Sovereignty: France established an illegal settlement called Saint Louis. In 1767, France internationally recognized Spanish sovereignty and returned the islands to Spain. British Expulsion and International Recognitions: Occupation and Expulsion by Britain in 1765-1770: In 1765, Great Britain established an illegal settlement in Port Egmont. In 1770, following orders from the Spanish crown, the governor of Buenos Aires, Francisco Bucarelli, expelled the British from the islands. After tough negotiations, it was agreed that Great Britain would return Fort George (Port Egmont) to Spain and then voluntarily abandon the islands, which was fulfilled. Recognitions in International Treaties: The Treaty of San Lorenzo (1790) between Spain and Great Britain implicitly recognized Spanish sovereignty over the Malvinas. This treaty stipulated that Great Britain would not establish settlements in territories under Spanish dominion in South America. Argentine Inheritance of Spanish Rights: Principle of Uti Possidetis Juris of 1810: After its independence, Argentina inherited territorial rights from Spain according to the principle of uti possidetis juris. The United Provinces of the Río de la Plata assumed sovereignty over the Malvinas as part of the territories inherited from Spain. Acts of Sovereignty Prior to 1833: In 1820, Colonel David Jewett, on behalf of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata, raised the Argentine flag on the islands and proclaimed Argentine sovereignty, warning whalers and fishermen about the illegality of their activities. British Occupation of 1833 and International Response: Violation of Argentine Sovereignty: On January 3, 1833, British Commander James Onslow, commanding the HMS Clio, intimidated Argentine Commander José María Pinedo to lower the Argentine flag and withdraw within 24 hours, otherwise he would do so by force. Recognizing British military superiority, Pinedo withdrew with his forces. Autonomous and Illegal Action by Onslow: The occupation was carried out autonomously by Onslow, as his orders were limited to Port Egmont and did not include Port Soledad. This act of force contravened peaceful relations and treaties between both countries. International Legislation and Occupation by Force: Violation of International Law: The British act of force in 1833 was a flagrant violation of the international law of the time. International law, even in that period, required respect for the territorial integrity of states with which peaceful relations were maintained. At the time of the usurpation, Great Britain and Argentina were not at war but maintained peaceful and friendly relations as stipulated in a treaty. Argentine Response and Diplomatic Protest: Argentine authorities reacted quickly, expressing their rejection and protesting diplomatically against the British occupation. This act prevented Argentina from re-establishing the settlement it had built with so much effort in the twenties. In summary, the British occupation of the Malvinas Islands in 1833 was illegal and a violation of Argentine sovereignty inherited from Spain. History, international treaties, and the principles of international law support Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands. The narrative seeking to justify the British occupation distorts historical facts and has no legal or moral basis. The Malvinas Islands will remain Argentine by historical and sovereign right. Finally, it seems necessary to clarify some key points about history and international law regarding the Malvinas Islands. Over the years, the truth has been hidden from both the British and the current islanders. It is time to recognize the historical and legal reality: Great Britain has acted as a pirate nation, and the world will celebrate when they take a step towards truth, morality, and international law. Relax and learn the real history for when you come to have a barbecue in the Malvinas Islands, Argentine territory.

Again with the Argentine revisionist propaganda being paraded as "muh real history". There is no evidence Magellan discovered the islands in 1592. He was simply too far away. That's like if I was in Chicago, looked out my window, and saw the White House. The only way Magellan could have seen the islands from where he was, even with a modern attic telescope, is if the Earth was literally flat. The first documented discovery of the islands was by the Englishman John Davis in 1592. There is no map of the Falklands from 1520. There is a map from 1586 that sort of a tiny bit resembles the archipelago, done by André Thevet (1516-1590). In 2012 a book was published claimed that this map was copied by a 1520 map by Andrés de San Martin, but there is no proof this map even exists. The first reference to this nonexistent map was in 1982 (hmm, suspicious). Only the 1586 map is known to exist and may not even be of the Falklands. The first proven map of the Falklands was done by the Dutch explorer Sebald de Weert in 1600. By the time France established a settlement in 1764, it was already known that the islands were British. They appeared on maps as the Falklands Islands from as early as 1702, replacing "the Sebald Islands" which had been the name for much of the 17th century, and the World Atlas showed the islands as British. The main motivator for France relinquishing its claim and settlement to Spain was simply that they were allies and France was bitter about getting floored in the Seven Years War. This has no bearing on British sovereignty. Britain never agreed to voluntarily abandon the islands after Port Egmont was restored in 1771. In fact, the action to expel the British settlement was not even a decision made by the Spanish Crown or government. Once the Spanish government found out, they tried to get France to aid in a potential war against Britain, but Louis XV declined as France was in a terrible situation financially. It was the lack of French support that forced Spain to negotiate and hand back the settlement. The First Nootka Convention of 1790 saw both sides agree that they wouldn't make new establishments in each others territories but at no point in any of these agreements did Britain surrender its sovereignty claim. Spain and Britain agreed not to consider each others claims, with Spain claiming East Falkland and Britain claiming the entire archipelogo. The British were still able to set up temporary structures and use the islands for stop offs, and there were still British fishermen and sealers using the islands. In fact, the 6th Article of the First Nootka Convention stated that any claim by a third party would allow for both Britain and Spain to return with full force and establish new settlements on the islands. When Argentina tried pressing a claim in 1829, that article was broken and Britain could return, which it did. Spain didn't as it still didn't recognise Argentina. The principle of utis possidetis luris applies only to inland territorial features and not islands 400 miles away. When the United Provinces was in the process of gaining international recognition from other powers (one of which being the United Kingdom) it presented its territorial claims and not once did it include the Falklands in these claims. Again in 1825 when diplomatic and economic relations were officially established between Argentina and Britain, Argentina made no claim to the islands. Spain also never relinquished its claim to the islands to Argentina, and still claimed them until 1863, the same year it finally recognised Argentina. By then, Britain had returned and had continuously governed the islands for 30 years. David Jewett crash landed on the islands in 1820 and claimed them supposedly on the orders of the Argentine government, however there is no proof he was given such orders. The story didn't reach Buenos Aires until a whole year later, whereupon it was treated as a foreign affair. In other words, they didn't care and continued to press no claim to the islands. Pinedo and his garrison had no right to be on the islands. On 10 September 1832, Argentina appointed Esteban Mestivier as governor, which was immediately protested by the Britain. Argentina ignored this just as they had done with Vernet. Mestivier was sent on a ship with the intention of setting up a penal colony on the islands. This was, in fact, the ONLY ever attempt by Buenos Aires to set up a colony on the islands in their own name. It failed. The ship mutinied and Mestivier was murdered on 30 November. José Maria Pinedo was then appointed Governor, but by then the British had had enough of the encroachment on rightful British territory and the ignored diplomatic warnings. This, combined with the earlier USS Lexington raid of 1831, and the breaking of the 6th Article of the First Nootka Convention, spurred the British to reassert its original sovereignty over the islands. The only reason there was ever a settlement in the 1820s is because Luis Vernet had secured British support and sanctioning in setting up a private business venture in 1828. He brought along some settlers, some Argentine, some American, some British. He had a British deputy and was subject and reported to the British consulate in Buenos Aires. This marked the first time any people officially of Argentine nationality lived on the islands. With British permission. That's why when the British returned in 1833, they only ordered Pinedo and his garrison to leave, as they had no permission to be there. The settlers did have permission, and so were encouraged to stay. All but four did. Argentina had no right to press a claim through a British-backed business venture in 1829. The final Argentine protest regarding the return of the islands to their rightful holder was in 1849. At the Arana South Convention of 1850, Argentina officially defaulted back to the status quo and resumed friendly relations with the United Kingdom. This included dropping its claim to the islands. Argentina wouldn't bring its claim back until 1946, 97 ENTIRE YEARS LATER. Any claim they had died in about 1900. It was in 1946 that Argentina began to distort history and spout some of the arguments that you are now here parroting. The islands are British by original sovereignty, effective occupation, acquisitive prescription, and above all, self-determination. There have only ever been three usurpations to take place on the islands. First by Spain in 1770, expelling Port Egmont. Second by Argentina between 1829 and 1833, which wasn't even a continuous presence. And thirdly in 1982 when they started a war of aggression, condemned by the international community and in direct breech of resolution 2065 which calls for peaceful negotiation and dialogue. Argentina also repeatedly rejects the islanders rights to Self-determination, despite being one of the countries that signed the UN Charter declaring it a UNIVERSAL AND INALIENABLE right. Argentina is the only party that has defied international law as it concerns the Falklands. Their claim has zero basis, and this is perhaps why, despite all the blustering, they routinely refuse to take their case to the International Court of Justice for the whole world to see. Because then it will be made clear that they have zero claim. Your comment is based on already tired debunked points. If Argentina had such a strong claim it wouldn't refuse to go to the ICJ so many times. Simple. The Falklands Islands are a British Overseas Territory whether you like it or not.

I remember the Falklands invasion very well. Argentinians were out on the streets, protesting against the fascist military junta and its leader, General Galtieri, used the oldest trick in the book - one that countless leaders have used over the centuries: when things are tough at home, distract the people with a war. Almost instantly, the same people who'd been protesting against Galtieri were now protesting against the UK. Meanwhile, in Britain, Margaret Thatcher knew that both her political career and Britain's status as a world power would be irreparably harmed if she let Argentina seize British territory without a fight, so the war was inevitable. It's a great tragedy that the lives of so many young men were lost needlessly - many of us felt very sorry for the young, Argentinian conscripts. As Borges famously said, it was like two bald men fighting over a comb. But the one thing that is often missed is the fact that there were over 2000 people who were born on the island - descended from generations of settlers. The islands were uninhabited when they were originally settled. Regardless of the legalities and arguments about ownership, shouldn't any decision about sovereignty be taken by the island's inhabitants and nobody else? It's their home. Unlike Argentina, they didn't seize it from a native population. Today's Falkland Islanders are not responsible for the actions of Britain 200 years ago. So the short answer is that the Falklands should only become part of Argentina if the current inhabitants vote for it. I hope that British and Argentinians do not allow this issue to spoil what should be a friendship. What we have in common is bigger than the thing which divides us.
