I think I once operated a Kubota excavator with a similar engine. This little fella is so utilitarian and practical that it loops all the way back around to being cute and quirky. The side weights are quite clever, a more dignified way to step into the cab of a little narrow gauge diesel loco.

At idle sounds very much like the marinized Kubota 3 cylinder engine. Very simple and practical engines. Mine is a decade or two newer. Nice shunter. I'm glad you gave it a chance to stretch its legs. Small diesels need that from time to time.

I’ve seen that engine unit in a Kubota mini tractor and was pleasantly surprised by the dependable power it brought for it’s size. Nice little locomotive!
@bentullett60682 жыл бұрын
Being from the garden and grounds machinery industry that Kubota engine is used for a lot of machinery from compact tractors, diggers, mowers, wood chippers, generators and even side by side ATV vehicles. The only other diesel engine out there that gets fitted to other machinery is from the other Japanese manufacturer Yanmar.

Until I began to watch some of your videos, I didn't realise that European trains didn't use knuckle couplers like over here in North America. Watching your intro reminded me of that. I suppose that is because North American railways had them mandated, and European railways won't because it's too expensive. I could be mistaken, as I don't have all the pertinent information handy.
@mattsmocs32812 жыл бұрын
Slowly there is knuckles being phased in the UK, mainland Europe leas parts of eastern Europe have multiple coupler types along with hook and buffer making it quite confusing. But atleast in britian, all modern freight locos and stock have knuckles. They only have buffers so the ancient desels like the 08 can still swich them using what are basically link pin couplers ( so its closer to early 1900’s America than anything else.)
@PBGetson2 жыл бұрын
@@mattsmocs3281 Thank you for the update and clarification.
@lmm2 жыл бұрын
Apart from he's incorrect. Modern freight locos still work on hook and screwlink. Knuckles have been used on passenger stock for a long time in the UK. The BR mark 1s have it Modern DMU's and EMUS generally have thier own specific coupling system, so there's a real mess of different systems.

I think you do not understand the nature of this little thing. The Statfold folks arranged for you a blind date with a Lady. She requires a genteel touch, or you will get slapped. Yes, she not the steam belching or diesel smoke farting brute you are usually teamed with. She is minimally dress for the weather. Of course, if it turns foul, she will just soldier on. Her operator is expected to do likewise. Pointing out a lady has gained weight, and is a bit broader in the beam than she once was, is a little impolite. You spend a sunny British(!) afternoon snugged up with a Lady, dressed for the tropics, and you object.? Remember, She was on time. There was none of the usual crawling about with an oil can and rags. She is as understated as your graphic for these adventures. Anyone who follow this series realizes its True Name as pagans would say, is " Lawrie Goes ( A Bit More) Loco. " God bless you..
