😊You made me smile to know your gear gets almost as jumbled as mine. I really enjoy these little fireside chats. I figure there is always something we can learn from one another. Thanks again for all you do for tying and our sport.

Thank you again Davie - the videos you have done that aren't specific to fly tying - such as the tour of your tying space and this one - are particularly interesting because we can see the thought process behind your decisions. Organization and simplicity - to the extent that's possible, when you have literally thousands of materials at hand - seem to be a large part of your success. It's very easy to succumb to temptation when a new product gets introduced, but very often the old tried and true options like the DeWitt boxes are hard to improve upon. I use a similar method of storing casts particularly for my smallest flies - it's much easier to tie a blood knot on the water than to thread a 7X tippet through those tiny eyes.

Thanks Davie for another year of informative and inspiring videos. While I have been fishing and tying flies for many years the information you freely share with us all means there are always new materials and techniques to master. Wishing you a happy and successful 2025...and many more tight lines!

Hi Davie. Have one of you. You'll like it Being a Scots man. For drying out dry flies , use sheets of kitchen roll. Just gently squeeze the fly for 5 seconds or soo. Might have to repeat in different spots if the fly is really soaked. This will dry them out real well I carry a few sheets in a zip lock. They will keep you going for a few months. 👍

Thanks for that, Davie. The longer the video went on, the more I grinned. I'd show you my fishing kit in a video if I could. Would be about 3 minutes long. The same stuff in the same ways but the small-size version. I got me a couple of new plastic bags this year. After a decade or two, the bottoms do come out, don't they... =] Mike

Thanks mate for sharing a great video on things. I’m the same I think keep everything. It’s nice learning things that we may not know about. Maybe you have time could you try and tie up some articulated flies or nymphs. Thanks again and you and your family have a great New Year. Oh yeah can’t forget the fishing season. Best Regards, Ken

Love it, I think we’re all the same, own nice fly boxes and end up with wee plastic boxes and bags to take a dozen or so flies to travel light. Still use Muslin have done for years too, quite strange I carry the exact same on my zinger down to the same unhooking tool. All the best for the new year. Definitely looking forward to more tying videos Wondering which patterns you would use snowshoe hare’s foot fur in, as I have been gifted a few. Thank you.

Hi Davie, I never thought of using cardboard for storing casts. And to think I went to the expense of buying rigging foams😅. As far as I know, Dewitt fly boxes aren't made anymore. I have two that belonged to my dad. They go back to the 40s and they've turned yellowish, but they still work great. All the best to you and yours in 2025. Happy holidays and the best for the new year with at less one 25 inches trout included!! 🙂 I have a chestpack with the possibility of attachment to the backpack or not. And I am going to sew some snap buckles to the backpack straps so I also can attach the front part of a vest to the backpack. The chestpack for pikes and cyprinids. And the front vest part for trout. But the backpack is important to me so I can carry food, water and clothes for the whole day, and some tools and a small first aid kit. The only option I could find of a backpack with the front part designed specifically for trout fishing is made in Argentina and they don´t sell to Europe.

I lived and guided in Idaho for 5 summers, and I was a smoker. My biggest peeve is trash of any kind on a stream, and I never tossed a butt when I was thru with my smoke. I didn't smoke a lot while fishing, but each winter, when I cleaned out my vest, I found the pockets were stuffed with butts. I've had this vest for over 40 years. I've tried other systems, but I can't find anything when I need it, and keep going back to the vest. I'm afraid to wash it as it might fall apart. I carry a Richardson box on the water, so I only take one other fly box. Most of the vest just. carries floatants, tippet, and tools. This leaves a lot of room for picking up trash. Please leave the water prettier than you find it.

oh! I finally bought a GoPro and one of those mics that you mentioned because my favorite river is very noisy. I fish alone most of the time and I almost never have a picture of any of my fish. It would be nice to see how you wear yours, so I could get the best shots. Even if those shots are of how I gave my fly to a tree.

Hi James, Since I started filming outside I was getting asked all the time about the rods I used but unfortunately all of them were no longer being made so I started looking for rods that suit the way I like to fish..I'm a good friend of Ian Gordon and I was speaking to him one day and he said that he and Stevie Munn were working with a company to develop new rods and lines to suit and they are going to have the action I like as I prefer a middle to tip action. So when I went on their website and read about them I bought one of their trout rods the 9ft 4wt which came with the line to suit and after fishing with it in my view it was perfect..I've also bought their 10ft 3wt and 10ft 5wt which I like as much, unfortunately they only sell in the uk...I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie

LOL. Certainly not a ring of power. No. No. You seemed like you weren't happy with how your leaders were sorted. Have you ever tried Tenkara Line Cards? You can buy them for about $2 each, or 3D print in 20 minutes if you do that sort of thing. I managed to find a leader wallet that fits them just right.

Have you ever thought about going to a sling pack ? I bought a chest pack and had to use a hat to hold my camera cause I had the same problem with the chest pack getting in the way. I went to a sling pack and I can carry everything I need and it's out of the way and doesn't affect my camera on my chest.
