Very, very, very insightful and important. Millennials get a lot of flack for what they don't get. Clearly this is something they "do" get in some cases and in other cases something they "should" get. Whether it is college, a job, or a relationship, being able to answer the question "what do you need to know about me" allows you to show up and be authentic... Bravo!

Eric, your message is valuable not just for highschool students and their parents but for everyone! “Better person” is such a wonderful point of view in this process and in life. Part coach, teacher, therapist, Rabbi and friend - thank you for seeing the best in all who you meet (and helping us see it too)!

Thank you Eric for helping Nyah , and for asking the most important question: what do I need to know about you? I think that it really brought out the best in her and made her reflect on what drives her to be a better person and not just an applicant. Thank you so much for bringing out the best in her. You are such an amazing teacher and person. We have so much respect for you!

As a psychologist and parent who had two daughters who were coached by Eric on how to write their college essays, I am in a great position to say that his Ted Talk is completely authentic and in line with how he coaches students. His Ted Talk displayed his own passion in guiding young people to be the best versions of themselves. He is kind, smart and inspiring which is congruent with his Ted Talk! I give this Ted Talk along with my experience in working with Eric, my highest recommendation.

You are an inspiration. It’s been amazing to watch you follow your passions over the years. To see how you’re shaping lives from what you’ve gained for being yourself is amazing. You were never afraid to be yourself and that’s the most important lesson! Better people make better applicants💯 Great Job!

Remember all those times your teenager showered you with unsolicited thank yous and spontaneous expressions of gratitude? Yeah, me neither. Except, that is exactly what has happened since our daughter began working with Eric Karlan and Ivy Experience On more than one occasion, our daughter has, seemingly out of nowhere, just thanked us for allowing her to work with Eric and has told us that she’s not sure how she could have gotten through everything without him. She has told us how Eric has made the essay and application process less complicated and has made her feel far less overwhelmed. Our daughter’s goal was to have everything submitted by mid-August, which required a rigorous schedule and an aggressive set of deadlines. Somehow, Eric communicated this plan to our daughter in a way that made it feel completely doable and, as a result of his wonderful approach and seemingly unparalleled expertise, everything will be completed and submitted by mid-August. Eric’s massively helpful guidance extended beyond essays and really served to demystify the application process as a whole. In a year where the rules and requirements has seemed to change daily, the entire Ivy Experience team has kept us up-to-date on the goings on and how they impact our daughter’s approach. I simply do not have in my vocabulary words strong enough to describe just how massively helpful Eric has been throughout the essay and application process. Thank you, Eric. You’ve made our daughter’s experience so much easier and, in turn, made our lives far less stressful. Our daughter is right, you are the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time).

Eric, No, I was never in a garage band, but I do have Emily Dickinson’s quote on the bottom of my work stationery. I most appreciate your image of thinking like Michelangelo and working to find the piece of art inside each student we have the opportunity to work with. I wonder how I would answer your question! Thank you for asking it.
