I was here about 22. years ago. It was so quiet and lovely. The diving was epic. It wasn't on many peoples itinerary's yet, so it was considered off the beaten path. The roads were very dusty and the locals constantly sprayed them down. There was a very cool bar that had little movie theatre huts to watch movies and snack out. Id like to go back, but I imagine I would be disappointed by how commercial its gotten, but I am happy for the locals who benefit from the tourism spike.

I went there in the 90s when it was quiet and the electricity would fail every night. To be frank, I like that the electricity works now, because you need at least a fan at night. I think they do a good job at keeping it clean.

Hi! It’s not very strong but there are some “more fancy” places with reliable internet. I’ll arrive in on a Friday if I were you. Check if you search for a place with fast enough internet for whatever you’re doing. Just in case you can’t find anything suitable, you’re able to leave for Bali or Lombok on Sunday. Just phone calls and normal websites shouldn’t be a problem

Scot's unfortunate experience is dazzling. I heard stealing stories happening on beach and crowded areas but the hotel?!?while she was sleeping in the room several feets away. Thats scary! If Local authorities let these happen along with all the other nonsense in Bali like traffic and tourist rippers, in time Bali will lose its good but unreal reputation.

Very split opinion of this island. On one hand the beaches are really nice and the sunsets are amazing. Pink coco in particular is great. On the other hand, getting around the island can be very difficult especially if you are staying inland. Me and my girlfriend stayed at Majo private villas which is lovely, but very poorly located. Getting home in the dark is very scary and quite sinister. I wanted to do a mushroom shake but will not be as the I can only imagine the bad trip I will have whilst trying to get back on a bike, in the dark on the very poorly paved roads. It is very easy to get lost. I am still here, but I for one will not be coming back. Bali has waaaay more culture; and I feel you can do everything in Bali that you could on Gili. Unless you want to get absolutely wasted on mushrooms and drugs, I wouldn’t recommend. We booked 3 nights but will be cutting the trip short by 1 night. Bali >>>>>>> Gili in my opinion. I feel like I am wasting valuable time on the amazing island of Bali by being here for 3 nights. That’s my opinion for what it’s worth

It's better not to prebook, just arrive and walk around, to find somewhere quiet enough but not too far. Of course in high season that can be risky.

I had a bad experience down there when I rented a set of snorkel and leaves to get some beer, once I went back to the location the snorkel was gone.., and I have to pay with a brand new price.. never go back to Gili..
