Facebook is a great place for doulas! I had a business fb page and joined midwifery/mom/doula groups for my state and connected with potential clients that way, and also had a doulamatch account. I felt Facebook was the most helpful tool, and then nothing beats word of mouth recommendations :)

Thanks for the tonnn of info!!! ❤ One question/concern is about waking the mom up throughout the night for feeding. Wouldn't that disturb her sleep? She might then ask what is the point of hiring an overnight doula. And yet, I know that newborns eat quite often, and it might not be possible to store an entire overnight's supply of breastmilk in bottles. Can you think of any other solutions that would not require bothering the parents at all? 🙂

Of course! 🥰 and from my experience, the moms I supported were breastfeeding so there wasn't much way to avoid disturbing sleep. Those breastfeeding should pump when baby eats a bottle so they would most likely have to wake anyway, although that's an option! Feeding is sometimes the route with less hassle, but it depends on the parents. I'd go in and out of their bedrooms very quietly, minimal talking, etc. It gave them peace of mind that I would change their baby's diaper and get them back to sleep so they could get the most sleep in. It saves a lot of time and is very helpful! ❤️

Newborn care specialists and overnight postpartum doulas are a bit different in the sense that postpartum doulas are also trained to support postpartum healing and breastfeeding. However, the newborn care aspect is very similar!

Hi, I just became a doula and I work with an agency. Some people just market themselves and never get with an agency but that’s a little harder.

Hi Tiana! Yes most of the time! It also depends on what mama wants. If it is the early nights where breastfeeding is still getting established, I usually recommend that they still breastfeed and I can support them in doing so if they need some assistance with positioning/latch. Once they get the hang of it we usually graduate to baby starting the night with a bottle, mama pumping and going right to sleep and taking advantage of that first long stretch (that is, if pumping is quicker than breastfeeding for them). Some mamas want the break from nursing, others wants to nurse the whole night! I have seen a mix of both :) we usually try different things because every mamababy has different rhythms, preferences and goals 💓

I'm so glad it was helpful! It can be a big commitment but I've done 2-4 nights per week anywhere up to 6 weeks-5 months. After a few experiences I learned the timeframe that worked best for me and how I preferred to create this offering.

No, they don't! I know many who prefer to do only days or only nights :)
