It appears that while Gordon saved the Finn McCool's, the place closed down after Buddy's passing, but Brian is still working in the industry. From an outsider's point of view it seems Gordon gave Buddy a peaceful passing since it seems without KN the family would have broken down.

While obesity can lead to CAD and heart disease, it’s not always black and white. I highly doubt his weight alone contributed to his death.
