RIGHT?! I think its cuz of just how explosive this episode was. And to think, all this anger and stress couldve been avoided if Amy and Sammy just didnt get up in arms about the one comment that ticked them off. Unfortunately, you cant please everyone. Even if your food is genuinely good, there will always be someone that dislikes it, and i think they forgot that. Even Amy says "the customer is not always right" but then she took it way too personally. I just hope that wherever they are right now, they look back at this as a learning experience. Obviously by no means am I in any way defending him keeping the tips - it's obviously absolutely a shitbag thing to do. But don't assume it's automatically illegal. I did a brief (emphasis on brief) search and I couldn't find rules for Arizona, but I can tell you where I live, business owners have zero legal obligation to pass tips onto their employees. It came out a few years ago that half of the Subway restaurants in the city I live in are owned by the same family and they chose to require their stores to enable the tip feature on all of their credit card terminals, and they keep 100% of it. Literally free money paid by people who don't know what's happening.

@@calereliya no it’s illegal. The owner of a restaurant is not allowed to pocket tips regardless of whether employees are paid minimum wage, this is a federal law, refer to CFR: 531.52. He tried to suggest they get paid minimum wage using rather non specific language via arguing that “they get paid hourly,” but he was wrong. He could have easily landed in a massive lawsuit over that, and it would have canned him. there’s more to this as well regarding reallocating tips from a tip pool to non tipped employees, not including the employer/owner. This is allowed only when tipped employees also work minimum wage. So effectively, if he said that he was intending to redistribute the tips, after clarifying that their hourly pay falls under minimum wage and that his intent is to spread out the tips to the rest of the staff, maybe he would be fine. But he didn’t do this. He just took the tips, presumably (with fairly high confidence) out of some delusional belief that he himself was entitled to them. As it goes with men like that, it doesn’t really matter if they know they’re breaking the law. It makes for someone incredibly dishonest at worst, and at best irresponsible, a shitbag, and someone who otherwise never should have started up any sort of business where he employed anyone ever. More than likely he also gaslit his own employees into believing he was legally allowed to do it, as disgusting people in power typically do. Really Ramsay likely didn’t know that it was illegal either though he might have questioned the legality of it. He certainly knew that it was unethical, and when he specifically said “don’t fuck with me,” it might have been the most mad I’ve seen him get on this show, like a genuine flash of anger and disbelief not played up for show. In truth the law is not that important. It holds value, but only insofar as an extension of widely agreed upon ethics.

I don't have a professional background in the culinary arts, but I grew up with a very food-focused Italian/Jewish family who instilled a genuine joy in me for cooking. Part of that involved learning VERY EARLY that you're not gonna be able to please everyone, but asking folks how they feel about your food can make it less likely for mishaps to occur. Sometimes I even ask my gf how she likes the food at restaurants if I know it's something I can recreate and make closer to her preferences. In my opinion, 90% of the fun is knowing your food makes people happy, so I truly don't understand how the owners of this restaurant derived anything even slightly rewarding from what they were doing.

I was in there over 10 years ago but it really seemed only like yesterday when I was in Arizona visiting family and that Amy is fucking nuts. We heard about ABC and thought no way and when I first walked in I was surprised how clean and beautiful the restaurant was and those desserts looked phenomenal OMG and as soon as we sat down we ordered cocktails and a pizza and the pizza was taking forever it was literally 50 minutes so I told the server hey we need to go and I paid for the drinks and left her a $10 tip because she was the most cutest little girl that I’ve ever seen and as I got up I literally heard Amy belittling her customers saying that everybody who goes in there are incompetent and that they are all just jealous and haters because they can’t make food like her and that nobody can keep up with her that if people have a problem with something that was on the menu that they can go fuck themselves they are all losers and I looked at the server and I was like wow how in the hell do you put up with that shit? She looked at me just I mean so cute and said I don’t know it’s a job and I can’t take tips I have to give it to my boss and I was like no you don’t that’s yours why does your boss take it? And she explained why and I said no that’s yours fuck that guy.

The thing I noticed the first time I watch this episode, is that both Samy and Amy are enablers of each other. Amy is a narcissist who's afraid of criticism because it cracks her rose-tinted glasses, enabling her husband to defend her "honor" (which builds over the cracks of her ego). And then there's Samy, who is overly proud in himself for work he doesn't even do while taking from those who *are* doing the work, enabling Amy to keep being a whiny "everything's good because I said so" snob.

Samy got deported back to Israel in 2018 because of a criminal record of extortion and some other things that I can't remember. She moved to Israel with him and they opened a business over there as well I think, but Amy cheated on him and she's now back in USA. Samy supposedly wants a divorce but she refuses. We actually ate at this restaurant after this episode was filmed. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't exceptional either. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, so we didn't have to wait very long for our dinner. The restaurant was very clean and was nicely decorated. Sammy waited on us and we didn't see anyone else. I was kind of afraid Amy would come out of the kitchen, but she never did.
