Remember to turn on subtitles if you need them!

This is a great channel. Just some feedback, You’re speaking slower here compared to earlier videos and that’s beneficial to someone like me who is trying to learn the characters. You might want to slow it down just a bit more. Also if you keep it real like your other channel rather than giving off the impression of being a produced language program, I think it would be more appealing to a wider audience. The topics are great so far and very interesting. Last suggestion, if you encourage viewers to submit their questions about stuff that’s confusing to a non native speaker, you might get some good content ideas that way. Keep up the great work!

I watched it without subs, learnt quite a bit. Honestly, it surprises me every time, but I think all the visual cues help. AND the fact that I saw the skit about this before, honestly this concept is a rare gem. Also, I find it very useful that you both repeat the key words and phrases, it just seems to sink in better. Now off to watch another time with subs to go more into details~!

Thanks for another video! You guys make otherwise incredibly complicated etiquette rules seem much more simple. As someone who struggles with social cues in my own country, this is a huge help :) Not to mention, I feel like as a Canadian, I can super relate to Jared's initial frustrations with the "polite culture" in China lol >< It's so different!

What if someone says, 你的中文好标准 ... I felt that was a real compliment
@@howardlee3917 Well, thanks for your comment, but you are taking it a bit too far. It was clear that these situations were not the case but still I received this compliment. It's not logically impossible, one's pronunciation can be quite good while it is still evidently the case that one is not a (near-) native speaker
@roselylez3 жыл бұрын
I think it's a sincere compliment BUT people who usually say "标准" are not speaking the perfect Standard Mandarin themselves as well🤣 (ofc not all but more likely to be southern people lol)
@adrianzondervan65213 жыл бұрын
@@roselylez Maybe this is true; I did not know that - still it is possible for a gifted person to acquire a real good level, of being 标准 (I'm not saying I am that person) and it seems (to me) rather stereotypical to connect this to being a Southerner, as if they would not be in a position to judge this properly

8:10; I've always assumed that was the person/host subtly implying "Oh, you're making such a mess. Come, I'll finish this before you embarrass yourself."

I only started learning Mandarin recently and I just found out that the word for 'sell' and buy' have the same pinyin (but not the same tone) :') so much confusion, I'm going to have to work on my pronunciation way more (so thank you for the videos! they're so so so helpful!). Have you guys heard of how they changed the HSK bands recently? goodbye getting the HSK1 "easily" haha
