We cut a hole in the ceiling to see if it might be worth exposing the beams. What do you think? Also, more chores completed around the homestead.
Living in Scotland in a 300-year-old country house. This is a record of our life renovating an historic house in Scotland and using our land as a homestead to enable us to live as sustainably as we can - almost off grid!

My favorite two Scottish ladies living the absolute dream on land that, I swear, is a slice of heaven on earth! Oooooo exposing the beams in the kitchen... Oh yeah! I think that would look amazing. I just can't believe how beautiful the land is where you are. No wonder it is home base for where the tales of the fairies or fair folk come from.😘

Time between episodes seems a lifetime this is how much I love your vids. Two very determined ladies you never give up never give in to defeat. I always say I love your home and area it’s beautiful the fresh country air permeates through the screen into my living room. I hate town and built up area style living not my scene. You are both making the place even grander. Thank you for sharing

I saw an online article on the Northern Mudlarks that stated Gail had been to film school. We know Alex is a brilliant photographer. I wonder how the videography and editing and music choices are divided between the two of you. It is all so excellent. Your videos are compelling.

Gail, you and Alex discussing how you need a new garden bench, then the man selling what looks like high quality garden furniture randomly showing up and having just the perfect bench for your garden is akin to your mentioning to the mudlarking gods how you're hoping to find one of your bucket list finds, and boom, there's the exact bucket list find you asked for, right at your fingertips. The bench is gorgeous. 🎉❤

Here those little tornados are called "dust devils". They are very entertaining to watch. They pick up small items like straw, dust off of a newly plowed field anew small pieces of paper or napkins. They seem to be born on very warm and dry days. When the farmers plow up the fields right before fall they can be seen in the fields full of dust and dry grass. They get pretty big and they disappear as fast as they appear.

Your land is sooo beautiful! You should get or rent some goats to take care of your grass and landcovers! 🐐🐐🐐 Lovely bench! Now you need a nice pillow! Do you sew? I usually refuse to watch the commercials but for you I'll watch. I do wish KZbin would match the ads with the show subjects better. You drone shots are magical! My people left Southern Scotland - were forced out - 8 generations ago and made it to Ontario Canada! Leaving such great beauty and not knowing to where must have been horrible.

Here in Oklahoma we see our fair share of tornado's and lots of whirlwinds. My Dad said that when was a kid they would jump in the middle of these small whirlwinds and it would pick them up off the ground. All that's missing is a dog or two and some kittens lazing about your gardens. I'm glad you two take things nice and slow and you don't get into a big rush. Lots of hard work is being done and it shows. Very nice you two.
@johnnabuzby6103

Jumping into the middle of a small whirlwind sounds like it would be kinda fun, but didn't your dad get dizzy from the rotation of it? I would've been so dizzy I couldn't stay standing upright. 😂😅 By the way, tornadoes is the proper way to spell the plural form of tornado. Just a friendly little spelling correction. I don't in any way mean to cause any offense, so please don't take it as such.

Growing up in west Texas we called them dust devils. They blew more sand then dust. As a little girl walking to school in our dresses you didn't want to get caught in one. The sand was like needles in our legs and the wind blew our skirts up. Yikes. And then if you got chased by a tumble weed and caught you were in real trouble.

Looks like the moths you saw were male Ghost moths. They are white and the females are more straw yellow. They flutter around grasses at dusk. I've only ever had a couple here in Yorkshire. Taking the ceiling down will make the place colder, so while it mat well look pretty after a lot of hard work, it might not be a great idea in the current state of this country and the wider world. Lovely lovely channel. One of my absolute favourites.

Hard work ladies, but well worth the trouble. The wild part where the long grass grows was so pretty, with all the dancing white moths. A great insect pasture, keeping the circle of life going, in all its forms. I bet the Shwoo's love mooching there, for tasty morsles. Loved the garden chair you bought. What a random thing to happen. As for the ceiling in the kitchen. Definitely get that plaster board out. The beams will look beautiful. This was such a peaceful watch. Awe and the cows at the end, were so sweet. Full of interest and curiosity. Xxx
