The different expressions of color in the chicks was very interesting. I'm very happy to hear you are collecting data in this experiment.

Buff hens can sure be broody. We love them but they really are good moms. I love how they fluff up to look larger and a bigger threat.

We just bought 7 Barred Rock hens, have a Delaware Rooster which we hatched last year around the same time his father got killed by a fox. Can’t wait to see the chicks they create!

We crossed a massive Blue Laced Wyandotte with our Buffs, we have some massive babies now.

Is there a video of them grown? I crossed my blue, birchin maran rooster with my sapphires but I sold them all but two and a hawk killed them hopefully they will hatch more soon.

I'm used to sexing chicks, it is fairly easy when they are fully feathered. Pullets grow their wing feathers first, so they are usually longer than roosters. Pullets will have complete wing feathers while roosters will be halfway even though they are of the same age. Pullets are more flighty as chicks and lighter. I think this is more to the fact that roosters are bigger so their body focuses more on body mass than growing feathers as chicks.

beautiful ladies shouldn't that outlet have some cover over it?
@pacountrycluckers31612 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree Carlene. Outlet covers like the ones you get in the baby section of a department store would be a great addition.

Yea you are right. I had them on synthetic pigeon milk. Same as chicken milk but it has more minerals for toenail growth. :)

Crazy how it was just a year ago you could still use genitalia to determine gender 🤣 also, the reason the baby cockerel jumps on mamas back is because it’s wired to do that (as roosters mate all day long with hens) they obviously can’t yet but they’re hardwired to practice, and the mama hen will put him in his place if he won’t stop.

Both gender chicks will jump on their mom's back. It doesn't having anything to do with mating instincts. If you put a low roosting bar or a branch in there, they will love hopping onto it or practicing flying up to it!

Please don't name your hen a food poisoning name. What about henny penny.
