Saw him in concert a few years ago, just before this album came out. So good! His song Burn slays me every time. Many songs from his earlier albums have the same angst (Empty, Old Before Your Time, Sarah) but he won't sing them in concert anymore because he says he's moved on in life into joy. (Now Sarah is his wife and they're struggling through her chronic illness and angst is returning.) But he also has some really upbeat, fun songs like Devil's in the Jukebox, 3 Days, and You Are the Best Thing that you should also check out.
