Usually only get this level of transparency from former casting directors, so this was refreshing and useful.

I tell my fellow actors to put their BEST stuff up front in their reel not minutes into it. Great interview, Anne and Erica.

Great video, very informative. One quick note. uncredited on IMDB does not necessarily mean that a role was extra work. The producers are only required to credit a certain number of performers. I have a number of principal roles on film and television projects that are noted on IMDB as uncredited. I was even credited on some of those role's an yet they show up as uncredited.

I'm not a casting director, but I think it's a little strange to be that picky about IMDB roles. Imdb isn't just a tool for casting. It's an archive. I think extras in media should be credited in some way, and I think IMDB is the best place to do it I mean no offense, that's just my unprofessional opinion

Thank you for the feedback, however NO when you are uncredited doesn’t necessarily mean you are an extra . I auditioned for a tV show and was given lines but at the end of working and being on the show as a principal for a few weeks my scene was not shown so they didn’t credit me but I still got a contract and been receiving residuals for the show for a few years . So No you are incorrect in that !

My question to the casting directors is, How do you feel about postcards? I had some good experience with them, however how do most of them,CD, feel about them. Thanks!

4:59 uncredited credits aren’t necessarily background credits Josh Brolin is uncredited as the voice of Thanos, Matt Damon is uncredited in a couple of films The contract we sign says “if the studio decides to afford you credit” you guys should know that. And it’s pretty bad form looking down on background actors who without whom the show would just look like some rich kids play.

The idea that a casting director would be checking IMDB for Josh Brolin or Matt Damon or their ilk is -- to put it lightly -- unrealistic. We know who they are. We'd check IMDB if we DON'T know who you are, and wanted to know more about you. It's just another tool for research, since we want to see your body of work. But IMDB is not what we rush for at the outset.

@@arvold You seem to have completely missed my point, I did not imply or say that you would/ should be checking such famous peoples credits on IMDb. My point is that the contracts that actors sign state “IF the studio decides to afford you credit, this is how you would like your name to appear” we do not get a say in uncredited, or uncredited so many of those “uncredited assumptions” you and your friend are making in this video were likely SAG days that have been paying residuals for over 20 years… my point in bringing up the likes of Matt Damon and Josh Brolin was to point out if it can happen to them it can happen to anyone. Small parts always get cut first. Maybe you didn’t know that but I would assume that you do considering your occupation and how long you’ve been in the game.

A question nobody seems to be asking. What do casting directors think about an actor's website? Do they prefer it to be plain and to the point with ease of navigation so they can find, video and head-shots in one click? Do they care how "pretty it looks"? Or does that matter?

I'm pretty sure most people are putting Extra/Background work on their IMDB page when they are starting out and want to show On-Set experience. I think most beginning actors want to convey that they know the rhythms of being on-set and terminology used, etc. And yes, I have one Background/Extra - Uncredited entry on IMDB that they just refuse to remove. I've tried everything, and it's frustrating.

I was wondering, what do casting directors look for or what are they hoping to access if you will in those in 5 to 15 seconds of clicking through the reel?
@barrelbarry9940
@barrelbarry9940 4 жыл бұрын
just talent I imagine. a range of emotional depth. believability in those 5-15 seconds, can you capture their attention, or break their heart, make them laugh? That may be an ambitious thing to try and achieve for only 5 seconds (when casting goes through thousand of reels) but I think it is doable.

Uncredited also means the role was poss “CUT” out and therefore the actor didn’t get the credit.

In relation to indb "uncredited" or extra work, I can see where a cd would move on to other info, but as for being a negative credit I believe that is ridiculous. You should be proud of whatever you do. Period. Many successful actors have got their hands dirty in the trenches and many have not.

“I humbly disagree, “Uncredited” does not always mean “extra” - speaking for myself, I was cast in 2 co-star roles in which my agent did not negotiate an end credit, therefore IMDb rules only allow “uncredited.” It’s not fair, but better than receiving no credit.
