Hi Mollie! It's been a long time since I've commented! I want to be a freelance editor. Taking my first class towards my bachelor's degree for English. So excited to catch up on your videos! 😊 I've missed a couple of the books from Writerly reads so i hope to participate in December.

I'm seriously considering becoming an editor at some point in the future. It started out with me editing my friends' blog posts and essays and them insisting that I'm actually pretty good at it. To top it off, it brings me so much joy and fun ! ( English is my second language so I hope you're not judging my language skills based on this comment :D ) *fun fact I edited my comment a couple times

Starting my morning with a short copyediting job for a grad student (technical paper thing). I find that these small copyediting tasks are really good to get my brain gears moving, but they leave enough time/energy for me to focus on writing for the rest of the day.

I LOVE that. And I totally agree! Small copyediting tasks can be weirdly therapeutic (or maybe we're just editors at heart, haha).

Awesome video - thank you! Yes, I am considering becoming a freelance editor and your videos are helping me learn so much about the field. I currently secured a couple of pro bono jobs for two academic journals to gain experience. Starting off with proofreading and light copy editing.

This was super informative, thanks for sharing! I'm an aspiring author and I will definitely be working with editors at some point in my career (oh and I know you shouldn't say "aspiring", but I haven't finished a novel in my life, so I do think it's fitting). 😊

Remus steals the show. My kitten, Nell, has the same attitude these days. As soon as I start walking away she attacks my legs with claws and teeth! Oh kittens.

I just have a quick question. When editing, I usually mark up the writing and send it back for the author to make the changes. However, I know some editors do it slightly different, making the mark ups, sending it to the author for approval, then making the changes for them after it is approved. Just wondering which way you do your editing or if you do it a different way? I'm looking to go into freelance editing soon and am trying to figure everything out ahead of time, so I'm not as stressed out and confused when I do start. Love your videos btw!

We have the same problem in the film industry with a ton of definitions for the same words. There are "standards" from the unions that tons of people don't use... and the different unions don't all agree XD

It's so true! And that doesn't surprise me at all! I bet that's how it is in a lot of industries... I wish there was one definition for every word! xx
