Their was automatic weapon and semi automatic weaponry in world war 1 guys their are plenty of videos to discuss it with pictures of the weapon systems being used, however they had their issues to im sure but they made them in more quantity than just a couple, they weren't really all prototypes neither recalls the only prototype used in the game is the huat low weight smg so get your facts straight first

I didn't notice the video was under 3 minutes long. I honestly thought I was going to learn a lot more about the differences between the way the game handled this huge piece of history and how it was in real life (at least how it was represented in historical documents). The only thing I got out of this video was that during the war you would mostly be fighting laying down or sitting to lessen your chances of being spotted, shot, etc. To be honest here, I feel like a 15-20 minute video probably would have been more appropriate and a lot more informative than a nearly 3 minute video, especially if you're going to bring in a historian that would have a vast knowledge of what transpired during this war. You had a good opportunity here to share knowledge that most people likely don't know, and you squandered it.

A few are in Germans but most and various of them were fought with French armies and British Empire during the war. Go learn the history class if you don't know anything about WW1.

Whilst there aren't 'too many black people' like some are claiming, it is rather unrealistic that there are white and black men fighting together. Due to segregation during the first ww there were entire battalions of black people as any / most of all the white men would've refused to fight with the blacks. But because cultural insensitivity and politically correctness is a thing this part of the war wasn't implemented in the game.

An a Historian, the moment you see a Black guy like that... even though there were Black ppl involved it was to a MINIMUM. And there were like 5 known Black people served in Europe on the German side. I'm Asian.. it won't make sense to us if there's an Asian dude in the court of Medieval England. We Asians get it, Diversity isn't necessary. But, Black people don't get this, they want to be everywhere. But sometimes White people mess it up too such as Prince of Persia, Exodus: God and Kings, or Gods of Egypt. They castern all White, when it should have been Middle Eastern & Northern Africans.

I'm sorry, but as a student of History myself, this was perhaps the weakest examination on a subject with a plethora of information available - from an actual Historian, that I have ever seen. This game is full of historical inaccuracies and blatant re-writing of history to push a politically correct narrative. From the ethnic makeup of the armies (ie far too high a representation of African and Indian troops in the European theatre - this is nothing more than a push for "diversity"). The mass use of semi-automatic and fully automatic weaponry, most of which was only developmental at best during the period is not representative of the wider war or the employment of firearms during the conflict. The actual combat is pure fantasy, the late period during which the game is set, had mostly devolved into a trench war, where gains were made metres at a time often at the price of thousands of troops. If he's a historian, he's certainly not being overly critical or academic in his critique of the game. Now from a gameplay perspective, most of these things are fine, as a mass market game, having only single shot bolt action rifles and the odd water-cooled belt fed machine-gun might make gameplay fairly boring, so I'm fine with that, and the gameplay is actually quite fun when you can look past that. However, the issues with representation of ethnic backgrounds in the game is obviously aimed at a social norm based on today's world view, not the view of 1917-18. This war was by a VAST majority fought by white Europeans from across the continent or people of European descent, ie; Australians, white South Africans, Canadians, New Zealanders, Americans etc. Sure there were a few hundred thousand troops from Africa and India based in Europe, and I am not for a second discounting their service or sacrifice. However, troops from these countries were predominantly based in their own countries, not in Europe. India for example had approximately 130000 men in Europe, but had roughly 700000 in Mesopotamia fighting the Ottomans, with the rest securing their own borders and internal security issues back in India. Of all the Black American soldiers who were deployed only roughly 38000 were combat troops (the 369th being the most famous) with the rest being support. Troops from Africa were used predominantly to provide security in their own countries, securing British or French colonial territories/assets. The French made the greatest use of African troops with almost 450000 serving in the French Army. However, when the war was fought by roughly 62 million soldiers, the high representation of African/Black American and Indian troops, particularly in the multiplayer component of the game is utterly incorrect and historically baseless.

Really hard-hitting piece. Keep up the good work and a Pulitizer may be in your future. ;)

Well the first thing he should've caught is that the song playing at 0:48 - "Dream a Little Dream of Me" - came out in 1931 and sounds nothing like the popular music of the era

They could've talked to this guy for an hour about the details of the game and got a million views easy. Instead it's a 3 minute video about practically nothing.

+Sagittarius Okay, then I guess you have no problem with how Hollywood casts historical roles., since it´s just movies and all humans come from Africa. Right?

It's not about racism! People complain because this game misrepresents WWI. Don't you think it's ridiculous that Germany has black soldiers in BF1, although they didn't use black soldiers in Europe at all?
