I have been listening / watching these older Jazz Academy presentations. As the new leader of a jazz quartet, I find it incredibly valuable to hear from you professionals. And I will definitely take these learnings in to the rehearsal studio. Understanding every band member's role is helping me be a better leader and is certainly helping create better jazz music!

Such a great approach to playing music! Become a better listener and focus on the team effort! That is often forgotten...

It's interesting to me - there are now more than ever schools, books and videos explaining how to play jazz, analysing and dissecting anything and everything and there are less jazz masters and stylists than ever, where in old days there was almost no schools and you had to learn everything on your own and on the job and there were abundance of great players with original styles. Makes you think..........

Shobaleader One.

I was thinking the same thing. Academia killed the creativety in Jazz.

jazz musicians of today are still doing it. you can literally go on spotify's recent jazz playlists or look up popular jazz. look up kneebody or louis cole or jd beck + domi. the jazz musicians of now have simply moved on from the big band sound

Hi my friend. I agree, schools, book, videos are mostly over rated. The real lessons can ‘t be found there. You have to know how to play with people, and how to play for people. Everything else you can found in a book. I’m Greg Bufford the drummer in the video.

For rhythm guitar, how much trouble is feedback for a floater, and should I get a 7 string archtop?

Our resident guitar expert James Chirillo did a series that covers much of this, in fact! Start here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYKZoIKin5pqarM

This is an amazing video for dancers and swing music lovers, and I was trying to make a translated version into Korean subtitles for better understanding of jazz music in Korean dancers. Could you allow subtitle contributions?

Uhh, the drummer should say the drummer needs to listen but just balance!! The drummer is responsible for driving the bus! Never ever follow! In a band egotist will always say hey man just follow me!! The drummer needs to say hey I don,t follow!! You stay with me!!
@gregbufford1 Жыл бұрын
I’m the drummer in the video. I’m sorry to hear you don’t agree with me, and that fine......we don’t have to agree. I do basically agree with you, but there is more to it than that. In jazz music, it’s a conversation... The beauty is in the whole group driving the bus in the same direction.

@@gregbufford1 I,m just saying about a band dynamic where ego,s clash. I agree in a great ensemble everyone is in the flow. Everyone on the same page. But more often than not the drummer needs to grab it.
