It is refreshing to see young people learning and playing this style of music. I thought it might be lost, forever, but great to see it living on, even if slightly different from the original period.

Here's the easy way to remember Basie Basics. Make sure you can hear the bass --- keep it Bassy.

Lmao the way the guitarist snaps his head back after guy asks him to solo.

My Favorite part about a Basie tune is that His songs are like a painting. Basie usually starts with a few piano key strokes and at the End he finishes his masterpiece with a few signature Basie Keys as if he was signing his name on a painting.

Freddie liked to move around a lot more, you can hear that he's actually quite busy, he just uses intervals rather than chords. It's not just chug chug chug. Lots of leading. Also, it's hard to say that there is a single Basie "sound," given that each of the Basie drummers had distinct styles.

Good stuff but the bass mix is still a little to loud ,it sounds way up front, but we realize these must be students, however i dont understand how this content is titled "rhythm section " when the bassist is too loud 🤔

Poor understanding of the guitar part I love Steve but the guitar is gone with an acoustic in any type of groups beyond a combo

For Basie style this video perfectly describes what is required of the guitarist.

jakemf1 the point is not so much to here the tone of the guitar as a guitar, but to here the sound of the strum as an addition to the percussion, and to here the tone as a sort of harmony to the bass. If you do that with an electric. It's going to be too loud and overpower the band in any soft setting. The whole point is to be tough and quiet. To sum it up in a phrase, "Speak softly and carry a big stick"
