I bought my first Beatle album in 1965 at 13 yrs old but my father who hated the Beatles had my little brothers scratch it up with knives. My brothers were 3 and 5 yrs old then. I bought another album and kept it secret after that. I told my father about 10 yrs ago as someone was playing rap music, hey dad don’t the Beatles sound great today? He had to admit they did. That was one of my stops with my new husband in the 80's. We went inside and made it as far as the elevators before we were stopped. Very politely I might add! The Secretary hand us a sharpie +suggested we write a message on the wall outside. Then took photo's of us in the doorway with'Abbey Road" over our heads! ( wow) Photos also at the zebra crossing. Traffic stopped +I noticed the cabbie just pulled out a paper, started reading! No honking or yelling. Best honeymoon ever!

Also London: Savile Row - iconic location of the Beatles rooftop concert in 1969; theres now a plaque commemorating it Soho - (Referenced in Kinks' 'Lola') if you get to the backstreets, around Berwick Street there are a host of more independent shops. As well as couple record shops like Sister Ray & Reckless Records Along the Southbank is a nice walk; crossing the Westminster Bridge from Parliament and then walking past the London Eye towards the National Theatre and Waterloo is a nice walk. Also areas such as Green Park and near Piccadilly; and the iconic Hyde Park close by as well. If you time it right you could go to Westminster and see Extinction Rebellion protesting too Another place that is quite bit away from the centre is Barnes. It is home to the Olympic Studios (which is now a luxury cinema) and across the road is a record shop specialising in Olympic recordings. It's also the place where Marc Bolan died in 1977.

If your gonna criticize the terminology he uses describing something get it right, he never said sidewalk.

We didn't get to go into Abbey Road studios though supposedly somebody was recording at the time. Rented a car in London ugh! Lol then drove to Wales and Liverpool. I went there for a lecture on the history of the studio. Held in the hallowed Studio 2 , you were even allowed to climb the stairs into the control room , photo opportunity galore. As part of the show they got the original 4 (?) pianos used for the jarring final chord of “Day in the life” and picked four lucky punters to crash that chord together and to hear it ring out in the very place it was recorded and on the exact same instruments was a special thing indeed to hear. You were only a few hundred yards away from McCartneys house on Cavendish Road.

No.3 Saville Row in London where the Beatles Apple headquarters used to be is now a store called Abercrombie & Fitch. As you walk through the entrance, there’s a small memorial to the Beatles which details when they purchased the building. Although it’s a clothes store, you can pick up the vibe of the place knowing that the Beatles were once here. One thing though, when I asked the female shop assistant whether I could go up on to the roof, she said an emphatic “no”! I think it’s due to health and safety concerns.

Yes I took look. It seems to me the BBC and locals are wrong. The crossing has NOT moved despite many claims online and elsewhere. There are a couple of pointers. On the right side as you leave the crossing, there is a drain and lamp-post. Both are still there. Also on the left (in 1969 out-takes) there are 2 manhole covers. They are still there. Also the distance between crossing and entrance to studio is unchanged. I have been inside. They opened it once in the 20 years I have lived here. It is about 3 times the size of the house seen from the street. It's all down below and out the back.

I agree. The crossing today is in its 1969 location. In the uncropped version of the 1969 photo, there is a small metal “water valve cover” on the third white stripe from the right. That same valve cover is in the same view of the crossing today.

Hello there. Thank you for your video. I’m English and live a short distance from London these days. However, I’d like to share that I grew up with the Beatles. When I returned to seriously listen to their later music (ie Abbey Rd) as an 18 yr old... I simply didn’t realise that they’d moved on from twist and shout (we had that record at home). I was tripping on LSD one night in 1975 and cried as I was so moved by Here Comes the Sun King. Perhaps a silly anecdote but true.

Paul McCartney's London home is a short walk from Abbey Road (in Cavendish Avenue). It's also worth going to Saville Row to see the building that was formerly the Apple Records HQ and where they performed the roof top concert in January 1969. I live there now and know the history. The back cover is there. It is further up on the corner of Belsize Road. The zebra crossing has been moved so you cannot exactly replicate the shot. Photographer was in any case up a step ladder. There are people there every day. Even on a rainy Monday.

For any music fan in London, Denmark Street and Camden Town are obliged stops. Gear and lots of records. For parks I’d go Hyde Park and Holland Park. Try to go to tower bridge at night. No tourists and the bridge looks beautiful all lighted up. Hope you enjoyed London! There’s also a nice Beatles store outside of St John’s Wood which is the nearest tube station to Abbey Road called Helter Skelter! P.S Soho is also a nice area with lots of culture and funky stuff!

Why does no one mention the zigzag lines one the road when they talk about how much it has changed? Surely I can't be the only one who notices them.

L. Marc the zig zags were added to all UK zebra crossings in early 1970s to ensure that sight lines between drivers and pedestrians could not be blocked by parked vehicles.

Yeah the zigzag lines are kinda annoying and stand out a lot when comparing them to the OG cover, thats why I airbrushed them out of the photos I took from when I visited the crosswalk to get more of an authentic look lol

It's remarkable how relatively little has changed in 50 years. All you needed was a background with a bystander man staring at you from the sidewalk and a Volkswagen Beetle across the street. 😁

Zebra crossing here in England is Pedestrian crossing . I got run over on one in 1993 in my hometown portsmouth hit n run. The cars have to stop. Their are no traffic lights. Just beacon lights. But obviously you have to wait till the good car drivers stop. Which I did but another car decided not to.
