I built a M&K speaker system based on the previous generation cabinets. 3 S150THX for LCR, 2 S85 for front height channels, 2 CS35 column surrounds for side surrounds, and the pair of SS150THX for rear surrounds. I have 3 of the dual 12" subwoofers stacked in the front left corner, (yes, six 12" powered LFE drivers) the room is 5000 cu ft. The surround sound field is big with excellent imaging all around the room. The front sound stage is as you described, clear and detailed. The low end is for lack of a better word, visceral. It will reach out and slap you! Nothing else can move that much air, at least not that I have experienced short of an arena concert PA. And this system is more detailed and clearer than that. Miller and Kreisel systems are legendary for a reason.

M&K has been around since the 70's,they are the brain trust of Jonas Miller and Ken kreisel, they are the standard,if not for them there would be no THX. Most recording studios and movie studios use them for mastering. They truly know what their doing, I've used their speakers in my home since I was old enough to apreciate them,they are expensive but well worth the money, they are practically indestructible and will last you a lifetime.

I've had the pleasure of listening to this exact setup and agree completely with the WOW comment. No other speaker setup has come close to matching its natural crystal clear clarity in movie effects and dialog, hearing this in a complete 7.2.4 setup is next level. The problem now is I'm not happy with any other brand of speaker for HT. I must have this for my HT. I'm not a fan of the subs though, I prefer duel SVS subs paired with MK 150 LCR, MK 150T surrounds & MK IW95 ceilings. All speakers paired with decent amplification, pure HT bliss. It's never fatiguing either, just perfect clear sound you can listen to at length without any listening fatigue even at high volumes. I found myself watching movies just to experience that level of sound with each, just so clear and brings a true professional cinema experience to your home. Defiantly not cheap though, espectially as you need to add another 5K for decent amplification to get the most out of the speakers. It will ruin your expectations for other brands too, it's hard to go back after experiencing this type of setup, everything else just doesn't match it.
@TechnoDad5 жыл бұрын
These speakers are INSANE!! Considering they are used in actual theaters AND they are used to mix and master music and movies, it would be VERY hard to have anything else in a dedicated home theater room. I would probably go with one or two SVS subs as well. Since I have some SVS subs, I'll set them up with this system and check it out.
@hyuuuhyyy78875 жыл бұрын
awesome, I'd love to hear your feedback when pairing MK speakers with the SVS subs. I remember hearing the most subtle adjustment of a glove for example in a scene, you would hear it so clear and loud. I think the design of the speakers aids in this, 3 tweeters on each LCR, essentially yielding 9 tweeters for your front sound stage, so the very small detailed effects are so much more pronounced. Other scenes where wind was blowing all around in a scene, very clear and natural. Top notch speakers, still my benchmark for HT. I've heard a lot of systems and semi regularly visit multiple HT stores in my area checking out all the latest and greatest, MK 150 is still the bench mark for me.

Wow. I can only imagine how they sound but can tell by your enthusiasm that they're incredible. They've dethroned the Klipsch lol. And they look good too. I was finally able to hear some Klipsch btw, the R820f towers and the reference center channel that has the two woofers plus the bookshelves. I was impressed. Though the size of those towers with the dual 8" drivers seemed to overwhelm the center speaker. Maybe a bad setup in the showroom too. Overall though it was great to finally hear what everyone's been talking about all this time. If they sound that good then I know that the Premier line would be that much better. I also heard the Pioneer sp-fs52 and bookshelf speakers designed by Andrew Jones. For the price they're very impressive and a great budget system. Just don't listen to the Klipsch first. Ha!

What's up Jim?! They are pretty awesome! As for the Klipsch you heard. I had the same issue. Techno Dad FWIW- If you aren’t going to be able to keep that setup, but would like to have that M&K magic for less $$$, I put together a basic 7.1 system a few years ago a piece at a time. I found a set of MK S150 THX LRC monitors on eBay for a fraction of new from a guy who took good care of them. With a little looking, I found a MK 5.1 home system with the 2 K-5 rears and 3 larger K-7’s. and a MX 105 push pull 12” sub. Everything was in really good condition and despite being older gear, M&K builds to last. This entire surround speaker system cost less than $1800. At some point I may add the SS150 Tripole Surrounds but We’ve been totally happy with our budget system that was less than half the price of a new one. I know some don’t like buying second hand gear but if your careful about what and who you buy from, you and create a great system for pennies on the dollar. I have gear that I bought 2nd hand over 20 years ago when it was already vintage and it still sounds great. Thanks for keeping the fun of AV Tech alive!

I don't know about the speakers themselves, but that subwoofer is WAAAAAAYYYY overpriced for the amp and performance specs. A vented Power Sound Audio 15" sub would kick the living crud out of the X10 for about half the price.
@TechnoDad5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's pretty pricey!

Way, way, way overpriced for what you get. I'm sure they sound great but not something I would get.

THX is nothing. Dolby audio or trash
@XNeo275645 жыл бұрын
THX is not a audio format like Dolby or DTS, but a detailed level of requirements for audio equiptment so your DTS and Dolby etc. sources sound as good as "reference" how the artist ment it to be heard. (In theory :p) I have a THX Select set and AMP in a small room lol, and I am done with sound, so insanely powerful and distortion free. I am a believer :P This set in the video is an Ultra version of a THX set for bigger room spaces. It must be a beasttttt.

I’ve had the xtz m6 and they are know where near as good as the new s150’s
@raulitrump4605 жыл бұрын
what exacly makes them so much better that they are worth allmost twice the money
@Phalanx19225 жыл бұрын
Rauli Trump more detailed top end, more dynamic, better midrange. partnered with the right gear they are hard to beat at any price, I’m not saying the m6’s are bad they are a good speaker just not in the same league
