The way he talks about his daughter with such love. It just shows you the power of depression. That someone as loved and successful as Bourdain, could be so depressed that he could not only leave all that behind...but leave his little girl as well. It’s heartbreaking. But when you are in the throws of depression, you can’t see the light. It’s all consuming. Be kind to yourself and to others. You never know what someone is going thru.

It's so sad to know and find out today, this morning of Mr. Bourdain's passing. I say this respectively and with honor of this man who truly came a long way to join all of us, around the world to gather, share, create great memories of that moveable feast of good food, good drink, good ingredients, good ideas, good people around the world, his culinary ideas, recipes, books, videos, TV programs, just enjoyment of sharing food simply with people we are happy to be with in every bite. He will sorely be missed, I will continue reading, experimenting, enjoying the rich culinary foods and cooking he exposed us all to. I personally would've wanted to have a great conversation over some great food, sharing some great ideas, one-on-one with him as we share a meal, a table with, how lucky can anyone be if they could sit opposite this great man. The best advice for feeding kids I've ever heard! I remember my "awakening", reading a scene in a book about some guy savouring olives. After that I went from refusing to eat food that I even suspected having onions or mushrooms in them to loving them, not instantly of course. Anthony Bourdain will live in our cherished memories. It's the "new" CTV morning show in Canada, that took over from the beloved "Canada AM". The key is that they really only updated the format and made it more young people friendly, while keeping the smart side of it up. The difference between Canadian and American morning TV can be quite surprising at times. I always feel like I know more watching Canadian TV, though it's not quite as fun and relaxed as the American version, which maybe explains the difference between the two countries,

Only really started to watch Anthony Bourdain now with his series Parts unknown. Sad to say we lost one of the great guys. A knowledgeable, cultured and down to earth person who had his ups and downs with addiction yet came through the other side. He was a fantastic chef, writer, presenter and Father. He had plenty of good times travelling the world drinking with the locals. Such a shame he was suffering in silence putting on a brave face. He must have felt suffocated by his depression and felt he had no option but to end his life which is truly heartbreaking. RIP Buddy.

It’s still hard to wrap the mind around the idea that he’s gone. It sounds extremely sad in retrospect when you hear him talking about his daughter in this video. How ironic when Tony answers that this dish, linguine aloe vongole, would make a good last meal because it's loaded with garlic, and gives you good stinky garlicy breath - a good way to go out. Then he says if he were planning to die tomorrow he would like to eat at a high end sushi restaurant in Tokoyo...or even a bowl of noodles. No kid should be afraid of eating seafood or is esp if they grow up on old Cape Cod here where Anthony got his start at a restaurant as a sous chef. Provincetown has some of the best restaurants, equal to Boston, NYC and Paris! The late great American abstract expressionist painter Robert Motherwell once said, " who needs Paris when you have P'town" as Provincetown is affectionately known as, the oldest summer artist colony in the country. So bring on those clams along with the clam chowdah and Lobstah!! Saw Anthony's big boat here shrink wrapped for the winter, it's name was "NO RESERVATIONS" Thanks for sharing~

Yep. He had a dark side to him. I personally believe it was the history of heroin use/addiction. I think it permanently alters your brain chemistry. I had a friend who was very similar, former heroin addict, world traveler, smoker, drinker, funny, life of the party, artistic, smart, talented, articulate, well paying job, 2 young kids and a lovely wife. Hung himself spontaneously one afternoon after a small family squabble. He spoke of hanging himself for years, in a joking manner, whenever there was a little stress in his life. He had so much going for him, you'd never, ever, even dream he'd take his own life.

Genevieve y’all clearly don’t know what depression is. It’s not like you get hooked on drugs and just develop a depression from it. You get hooked on them BECAUSE of mental issues that were always there to begin with and drugs are an escape from the mental hell that people with depression deal with

Well he didn't have anything else to live for apparently and was very obsorbed in the world he'd made for himself based around food. He may not have understood anything else, but it's not very nice to his daughter who now will never have the chance to talk to her dad again.

Every once in a while I remember he's gone and I get sad all over again... I miss his presence on this earth.
