Double empathy refers to the idea that there are communication differences between individuals who are neurodivergent and neurotypical. These differences arise because both neurotypical and neurodivergent have different ways of perceiving and processing information. Neurotypical individuals often rely on verbal communication, body language, and social cues to understand and communicate with others. They are able to easily pick up on nonverbal cues and understand the underlying emotions and intentions behind someone's words or actions. On the other hand, individuals with neural-developmental disabilities or differences may have difficulties with social communication and understanding nonverbal cues. They may struggle with interpreting facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice. This can make it challenging for the neurodivergent to understand the emotions and intentions of others. Back when I was in school there was no distinguishing between Neurotypical and neurodivergent. So expecting neurodivergent to excel in a Neurotypical method of teaching was not going to happen. School was a hell hole I was glad to get the hell out of there go to work for the next 57 years. I could say more but I won’t.

Looking back when I was in school I was always on high alert, trying to see around the corner to prepare myself for whatever was coming my way. Mostly because my brain under stress shuts down. So I was always trying to prepare myself. It's funny under emergency situations. My brain seems to work fairly well. Plus I have the ability to hyperfocus in certain situations. In other ways I just fall apart strange.
