This is something that I have wondered for a while, it seems that Dolby visions & Atmos is made by the film makers while as imax is mostly or partly done by imax. Which in theory could mean Dolby is closer to the film makers intent.

You are correct on the Dolby part - on the right track with IMAX. IMAX simply supplies the physical gear to the filmmakers (in simple terms)

@@MovieUniversity can you elaborate what you mean about Imax supplying the gear? I thought imax was involved with the “DMR” process?

With directors of photography calling their audience dumb when their movies and shows are getting some 🏅FAKE HDR🏅awards that sets Dolby in an embarrassing situation. Same goes for Atmos as the technology is currently barely used correctly. Thankfully DPs have been a little more generous with their HDR gradings over the past year so let's hope it won't take 20 years before those Dolby treats gets finally utilized the way they should.

What do you consider "fake" HDR?

Content that barefly goes above 300 nits during daylight scenes and content that looks nearly similar from the SDR version.

One thing Dolby fails to mention when streaming Dolby Atmos whether it's a Dolby Atmos soundbar or the Dolby Atmos AVR one will also need a Dolby Atmos passthrough TV! We need some regulation in this industry.

I can’t remember if I said it in the video, but the device is what determines if you’re getting Atmos or Vision. If the device is asking for Atmos then the device will correctly playback the content the way the editor and director intended.

So... having Dolby stamped on something doesn't mean anything because Dolby doesn't verify what the licensed party does with it. Got it 👍🏼

I've always wondered this...the AMC dolby bumper claims deeper blacks, brighter colors, etc...but I've seen the same movies both in AMC Dolby and "regular" and at other theaters and they looked the same to me.😅
