No. The best way to see a movie is in film such as 70mm or 35mm projector versions. No amount of laser can come close to the photochemical effects of film. The problem is that very few places have film which is a real pity considering that it is superior.

Thank you for the informative video! really helped me out to understand what I'm going to experience (although perhaps a bit more critically so as well) I saw Top Gun 3 times in imax, 1 time in screenX, and just came back today from a Dolby Atmos watching after doing some research. apparently it's the only Dolby Atmos theatre in my country and i had no idea i was so lucky to have all of these options (as well as 4Dx) in the same movie complex. I have to say the imax was great, it had sound levels almost at the threshold of being unbearable for the actions scenes but it kept it at the highest possible sweet spot. For my 4th viewing i watched it in ScreenX sound was a lesser for me as and i found the sound stage not as vast, the 2 extra screens were nice in selected scenes but then again i missed out on watching the movie for the first time so it's hard to compare. i don't want to trash ScreenX. Viewing it in Dolby Atmos was really really nice i must say. it was more finely tuned as far as sound, great screen size, just slightly smaller then imax. Even though it was my 5th viewing i found the action to be superbly executed. the loudness levels were slightly less than the imax and i think it gave for a much more balanced viewing experience. imax achieved similar results with louder audio which enhanced all the bangs and clanks (especially in the opening sequence which i had to "endure") but i think it was a little violent on the ear. I think overall the Dolby Atmos experience takes it. it achieved what the imax tried to achieve with more finesse and elegance vs just raw output volume and bigger screen size, and the spaced out seating and room were also great additions to my experience. If you're a younger guy seeking to get a more bang-y experience imax works great, but i doubt many such people would be reading my comments. If you're watching, i think Row 6 our of 13 would fill your entire view angle (i was row 7 and it was almost there,) or row 5/13 if you really like sitting close. I'm almost tempted to try out the 4Dx to complete my viewing experience of this great movie.. there's one last screening if i really want to go all out. can anyone recommend? Another interesting bit of info - So it turns out that not only there aren't anymore Dolby Atmos theatres in my country (israel) but also Top Gun Maverick is the only movie being shown in that room, i guess it's not an easy standard to achieve for other movies. Kudos to the movie creators. Another fun fact - no reclining seats, no special entrance in this one.

The AMC theater I go to here in NYC has both (REAL) IMAX and Dolby Cinema. If the same film is playing in both auditoriums, I tend to go for the IMAX option. I was happy to learn what Dolby Cinema is and how it compares to the other formats. I realized you don't like movies in 3D and that is fine with me, you belong to 90% of the population anyway who doesn't like it. The fact is, it's not good at the theater but it's absolutely amazing at home ! It's even better than 4K in most cases. So, it always hurts me a little when I hear bad comments about movies in 3D. And, it's because we keep thinking it's not good that the format is disappearing. Can you imagine if they would have continued producing 3D for home cinemas ? We would be in 4K 3D by now instead of the 1080p 3D that we have. Sad....

Why aren’t American audiences not so passionate about 3D movies? It’s another dimension that nobody else can provide! It’s so hard to find 3D movie theaters even in NYC area. Some movies have 3D releases, some don’t. Some theaters show this 3D movie but not that one. So tiring...

This kind of and off topic question: I notice many home theater set-ups with all speakers lined up in the front; subs, center, mains and front surrounds. That makes no sense to me! Most sound from a movie will come from you for the simple reason that the television is in front of you. The side and surround speakers only provide supporting and ambient noise and won’t make a lot of sound when compared to the front speakers

I’m anti imax because they straight up try to hide facts to customers and hope brand recognition will carry them through 🤔 . I’m fair to them though I think. I do say if a movie is filmed with imax film cameras absolutely go see it. However, there is not one thing special about imax digital.
@87CREW
@87CREW 4 жыл бұрын
@@MovieUniversity I never said you're Anti IMAX. 🙂 And by saying that there is nothing special about IMAX Digital does sound a bit like Anti IMAX all of a sudden. The Dual 4K Laser Projecters Actually project in the original IMAX film aspect ratio, but that is only in Theaters with the really big screens. But in general the single 4K IMAX projecters give a better image than "let's just say the standard and also excellent" 4K projecters. IMAX also has WCG and higher specular highlights and the black levels are deeper than the Dolby Christie projectors. But yes Dolby excels in the brightness and highlights. Atmos, not really my thing, all those above your head speakers just don't do it for me. Like I said before, Auromax any day. 😁 I like the power and in a way the more simple 12-track soundsystem. And you prefer Dolby over IMAX is your good right. Both offer a great experience and seeying that both IMAX Dolby are expending their cinema rooms tells me that both are njoyd by many movie goers. I for one njoy both. 😀

@Movie University what does the picture quality look like in Dolby cinema for Dolby vision?
@Reeeepicheep
@Reeeepicheep 2 жыл бұрын
Has anyone noticed disparity in picture quality between different Dolby Cinema locations, or are they all supposed to be the same hardware- and standards-wise? I'm in NJ and I just saw my first Dolby Cinema movie. I saw Jurassic World Dominion in Dolby Cinema and the movie did not take up the entire screen, which was quite disappointing, as you walk in and see this large wide screen expecting an immersive movie experience and then the film is cropped left and right and it didn't stretch all the way to the bottom either as it was slightly cropped at the bottom as well. The picture quality and color contrast and deep blacks that are advertised by Dolby to be exceptional were simply above average. The blacks are still not true blacks and are limited by the projector, which may or may not have been running optimally. My LG OLED looks sharper and punchier. Additionally, my right ear is slightly deafened after enduring two and a half hours of absurdly loud sound. Why does Dolby as well as IMAX believe this is how movies are to be experienced? Why on earth do they feel the need to raise the volume, even of something basic like a car driving past, to 90-100+db? Because in real life it's not that loud. Like the foley of every basic action is turned up to an insanely implausible volume level that it's not realistic, it's just obnoxious and horrible for your hearing. Like well beyond the point of damaging your hearing short-term, perhaps even long-term if you attend these premium movie experiences regularly without ear plugs. So I paid extra to check out what the fuss was all about with Dolby Cinema and I have to be honest, the picture quality was nothing to write home about and the sound was deafeningly loud. Your chair rumbles with the sub-bass... big deal. I'm not particularly interested in sound so much as picture and I was excited about Dolby's picture fidelity as I am a fan of their Dolby Vision HDR with my home theater 4k blu-ray setup. Now it's possible that other theater locations do Dolby Cinema better, like maybe this is a standard Dolby Cinema as opposed to a flagship one, or perhaps this location isn't well maintained and their projector bulb may not be running optimally or needs replacing. It could also be that the theater was just running a regular movie on a Dolby Cinema screen. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this and if I should give Dolby Cinema another try at a different location or if anyone prefers IMAX laser?

@MovieUniversity 2 жыл бұрын
Even with Dolby Cinemas the screens the sizes vary from location to location for a variety of reasons. However, most liemax screens are around the same size as a DC screen. And judging from comments I've seen on my channel over the years I'd say this is the same all over the world.

Well, 1979 dolby MONO. Its been going a long time. I was the original audience so I look for and am extremely impressed by 2022 dolby MONO experience from current DVD's. THAT sound , at the appropriate volume will blow you away. Anything beyond that is bonus sound. Home cinema is too intense for people to bare. You'll become a nervous wreck in a few years , and that's just from MONO sound. The human brain and nervous system can't handle MONO so You're dreaming you can handle immersive sounds. Is it worth paying? The price you're going to pay is you're going to destroy your nerves and emotions. Your brain will be restoring memories from 40 years ago. That's NOT normal. That's like DAMAGING TO THE BRAIN. I'm starting to realize home cinema isn't healthy for us. Health Warnings should be put all over these things. In a split second you'll remember stuff exactly, from 40 years ago. Stuff you hadn't thought about in 40 years. I guess that's the most extreme wicked trick to be played on human brains.

True IMAX definitely over Dolby. Sound is also better in IMAX than Dolby Atmos. Love Dolby Atmos in my leaving room. Often DTS x better than Dolby Atmos. IMAX have also their object base sound. Love 3d. Saw Dune 2021 in one cinema very bad so dark. Other 3d we're had Dolby Atmos. Lighting of movie was normal. May depend on cinema room and location. In this video nice room shown. Saw Dune 2021 three in IMAX theatre sound and image wow compare to the other two screening I saw in 3d. Saw also in English and French. Like better in English due to certain scenes. Thanks for this video.

3D was a failure hence all the television manufacturers removing 3D from their television's. The far future of movie immersion will be holographic tv's and projectors. It will give a true holographic image, without any glasses. Plus no dizziness like most people get with 3D glasses.

This is the absolute worst clip up on KZbin today. The audio in this clip is vintage 1914 sound quality. Horrid, just horrid. The "narration" will raise the hair on your back. Horrid, just horrid. There are dates given in rapid-fire succession, but two minutes into it, you will not know the year or even deacde the "narrator" is talking about.
