The top right star on the Alaska state flag actually symbolizes the North Star which helped explorers identify where true north is in the night sky. I'm pretty disappointed with the description of the Texas flag, so I can only assume that this video did the same injustice to the rest of the state's flags. It sounds like they didn't do much research, just rushed to video production. The Texas flag represents much more than what they described. The Star, the Lone Star represents the one state that at one time was it's own republic. The red and white stripes were intentionally placed with the red stripe on the bottom to represent the blood on the ground that was spilled to defend Texas.

It's Union flag or Union jack. Before 1600, ‘jack’ was used to describe a small flag flown from the mast mounted at the end of the bowsprit. By 1674, this flag was described formally as ‘His Majesty’s Jack’ and in common usage - officially acknowledged - as the Union Jack. During the eighteenth century, the short mast on the bowsprit disappeared, to be replaced by staysails on the stays between bowsprit and foremast. In 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that either name could be used officially. And in 1908 the UK Parliament approved this verdict, stating that ‘the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag’.

I agree but as I've gotten older I've felt more and more weirded out by the pledge of allegiance in grade school. Some of these kids are 6 or 7 years old, they shouldn't have to pledge their allegiance to anything.
@jusblazed1ful3 жыл бұрын
@@Alex-kd5xc yeah, that's called indoctrination and I couldn't agree more. If a child can't give you the definition of allegiance, they shouldn't be forced to pledge it. imo

In the US, every state has a state mammal, reptile, flower, wild flower, tree, fish, insect, bird, drink (Alabama is the only one with a spirit for its state drink), etc.

I also want to say that while I was growing up we said the pledge of allegiance followed by a moment of silence after but that's no longer a thing because the pledge of allegiance is offensive

Unfortunately, in Canada too, flying our flag on your car or home tends to lend towards racism. Especially since the " freedom convoy "

In America people of all nationalities fly the flag. We are a country of immigrants. It is not just white people who fly the flag. I have never flown a flag on my house but lots of my neighbors of various races, religions etc. do. It's the confederate flag that has that rep.

From Hawaii, I wish the vid explained it more. Hawaii was never colonized or apart of the British Empire it was placed there by the Hawaiian Monarchy as an act of friendship and alliance w the british. Either way been loving this channel

To be fair, my home state of Oregon has a beaver on the other side, not just the seal on one side. Still boring, but it is something different then the rest of the hall of shame. The pledge of allegiance in the US, you can choose to participate or not, I doubt you have the same option in North Korea. Baaaaaad Comparison.

So, over here in the US, you may see not only the 'Stars and bars' flying outside one's home or business, but also a flag representative of the owners heritage, like Finnish, Mexican, Polish, Italian, Puerto Rican, etc. Do you have residents on your side of the pond that fly the flag of their heritage, alone or with the Union Jack?
@daricetaylor7372 жыл бұрын
There is nothing wrong with a person showing love and respect for their country and all the good it stands for by flying your flag! I say to all our "cousins" across the pond.....fly your union flag with honor and to heck what others think about it! You are the one who knows the meaning of why you are flying it and you should not have to answer to anyone as to that reason.....but should they care enough about you to ASK you, you could answer with conviction and pride!
