This lesson as well as your others are really fantastic. I was a Russian Language major in college 50 years ago, and this is a good review. 'хватит' sounds a little bit like the English phrase "Quit it!" (I've had enough!)

Fedor, I am the one who asked you about the "irregular verb thing" in your previous video. I believe you are quite busy with your pre-planned videos; but I need your help. It will be so great if you tell me the conjugation rules of these irregular verbs - "Ехать" and "Жить". Yes, thanks for explaining the meaning of "Хватит" ; and can you tell how this word is pronounced.Thank you.

Fëdor I wanted to ask you what would be the best way to set long-term goals. Because my main goal is to be able to speak to russian people without too much stress or frustration or fear that they won't understand or that I won't understand when they answer me. But that's not a practicle or concrete goal, right? What can we do if we have this problem?

Хватить also has the meaning "to grab"
@jolevangelista5 жыл бұрын
You are correct. The same root, but it has very particular meaning. It means to grab / to get (usually by accident) something excessively. In most cases you will hear an idiomatic phrase Хватить лишнего - to drink too much in this particular occasion. Либо как было отмечено выше - Кондратий....

A Russian acquaintance was complimenting my Russian, but I know it was just to be nice. Would it have been appropriate to use хватит to say something like “Oh, you’re nice to say that, but stop flattering me.”
