I have been told over and over that, I can go deep really fast. Like my husband told me he was a little taken aback when we were first dating how deep I went right away (he is an INTP). I was craving for someone who could understand and listen so I may have jumped deep sooner than my usual, but what was funny was he discovered that was not my deep side at all he said. That "deep" was my surface level lol! I find that most people are unwilling to go that deep and often want to talk about day to day life things which I feel is kinda boring and meaningless for the most part. So if I find someone who is willing, I jump right in the deep end, so we waste no time with small talk to get to the deeper, meaningful stuff lol. Those are the conversations I crave and live for- that is the quality time I value, but it's quite rare.

Oh my gosh, Brooke! You are speaking my language! I feel the same way. I want to get right to the nitty-gritty of a person. The superficial makes me uncomfortable. I grew up in a family that was all superficial. You weren't allowed to talk emotions or whatever. And this going deep as well as using people's body signals and cues also make me want to avoid talking on the phone. It makes me uncomfortable not knowing what they are doing on the other end. I avoid it as much as possible.

It is very strange to people that our intentions are always literally “I just want to make you happy.” Good tip is to keep that in mind if you are dating an infj, or are curious about how you can spot their affection or if they care about you (you are that special person). It is in the moment they start digging into what you like without you asking and they come to you about it, and mimicking you. 😂 it’s so dopey. I’m an INFJ, too. So true.

You explained having company with Infj well, I like to talk about crazy things, serious things, painful things and comic things in a conversation with a good friend...it all just comes up. Many probably don't understand me. I have been told I am too sensitive when sometimes I can detect hostility from extended in-law family.....but I believe that those people are narcisitic manipulators and I try my best to avoid those. Sometimes I find it hard to understand myself and wonder why there are those that want to be friends with me.

Great insight. It should be said that not everyone appreciates the INFJs way of showing love. It can be perceived as manufactured and maybe a bit intrusive. But many do find it refreshing that someone would care enough to actually know their deepest likes and hobbies.

James soroe< That's good insight and it may be seen that way because the person who is upset by it may have their own issues, are hiding something and is not happy that we can 'read' them so well. I have actually been told by someone I was dating that I make them 'feel naked' because of how well I read them, they were quite defensive with the statement and went on to gaslight me everytime I sensed a discrepancy in things they said in conversations. It turned out they were dating me whilst holding onto a relationship they claimed was over. Most honest people have been happy with the way I get to know them deeply and I have deep connections with them. The ones who complain about me 'being intrusive/manufactured (aka, fake, phoney)', usually have something to hide and know we can see their shadow self, or are emotional vampires themselves and don't want to have to return in kind, or are very immature and don't yet know themselves and are in denial about their nasty side. I have encountered them all, and I walk away from all deceivers/self-deceivers, they create too much stress and I refuse to throw my pearls to pigs and swines, knowing that they will tear me apart in return. peace

I'm fascinated, I am just learning about this. btw, I'm a teacher, and I want to let you know, you rock at explaining all of this. I also have a BA in Psychology and I never really delved into this type of stuff until now, when it is pertaining to me and my life. I wanted to add another thing I believe INFJs pick up on that we somehow (or at least what I think I do) I'm really good at identifying/profiling based on peoples' speech, word choice, accent, roots, clothing, labels, preferred cars, shelter, etc...products, music, political views, I can really size people up, and they don't even know. not in a bad way, my brain tries to make sense of everything that happens around and inside me, it's quite exhausting tbh with you. it has led to depression, and burnout

My bf is an enfp and OMG can he lay on that charm! Words or affirmation are definitely not something I'm interested in considering how often people use pretty words to manipulate me my bf has even tried to use words to change the mood or subject or to try to get out of being responsible and each time he's floored when I call him out haha I think that's one of the reasons he fell for me. I saw him completely and even with his bad habits I love him completely, he certainly loves me for my bad habits. Acts of service are more tangible, it's something I can see and feel, it holds more weight in this world. "He really heard me" is what I think when he preforms an act of service.

I disagree about INFJs tending towards Affirming words and Touch being a dominant love language. Affirmation smells like BS to intuitives, and Touch takes a bit of time to be comfortable with. I think it really depends on what the other INFJ is passionate about/their moral compass and if they've gone too far in one direction or the other. After all, both Ghandi and Hitler were supposed to be INFJ. INFJs might understand each other's processes and motivations, but that doesn't guarantee compatibility.

I took the love test and as an INFJ my results where Act of Service and Words of Affirmation almost at 50/50. I really struggled with one question that posed a scenario of which one was important and both where equally important to me. So I had to break it down, " If you love me, then your actions would reflect that", however, I do feel extremely inspired and motivated when a person speaks highly to and of me. It lets me know that I am doing something right and it encourages me to continue. Quality time was the third and Gifts where the last.

I tried to love the way an INFJ loves, but every time, I was used, misused, abused, abandoned, discarded, and neglected. For some it is like that, but you're going to have to dive into some deep research on that. It is easier to just think of their love as temporary as the moment in her mind she fancies someone else, she is no longer in a relationship with you even if she is standing right next to you. It is far easier to invest in yourself and do not invest too much into them, this way you are hurt less or not at all should things go awry or there's a breakup. Not saying they are all like this just most are and people tend to be products of their environment and will copy the other dominant behaviours even if they are bad. Do your own research into their behaviour!

Agree 100% with you, when I met a new person ... i always listen very careful to what they have to say .. the don'ts and the likes, the color they love and any other thing which make them happy. i'm already happy in my own skin ....... but there are millions of people outside there who are very unhappy people and they need an INFJ in their lives! What i don't like is the touching - don't touch ... there are other ways to show love and faction without touch. we are good people but don't push us in the wrong way .... nope not good.

Funny... As an INFJ I have Touch and Words of affirmation as my top ones, I honestly don't know if there is a lot of correlation between The five love languages, and Myers Briggs. I've seen INfJ's for instance that have gifts as the top, ones with acts of service, or like mine, or what the maker of the video said. I base it on what my mom said, that the love languages that you have might reflect what you didn't have as a child. Mom is an INTJ pretty sure...

I am not sure about the ‘getting inside your lover’s head’. It’s their private place. Trying to understand him/her, yes, definitely. I don’t want to love my idea of him/her, but the real person as they are. Sometimes (many times… all the time, actually) I wish I didn’t ‘know’ so much about the other. I don’t probe, I just know (I can’t even explain it). I can and do actively probe like a silent interrogator if I smell deceit. As I am mostly right, I can and will hit them hard in their softest and most hidden spot- if they feign love or care in order to manipulate me. Love. My definition is different from the majority’s. Most are seeking their gratification first. Even when they help you, they derive something for them; I guess it’s natural. And yes, I do believe in putting yourself aside for a minute and just be there for the other without losing yourself. I’m not sure that I appreciate words of affirmation. I know pretty well my qualities (and defects), therefore the words of affirmation (providing they’re honest) either miss the point or they’re not good enough 😄 Gifts? Yes and no. I prefer someone to surprise me with a small chocolate they put in the shopping trolley when they did the food shopping than an expensive gift that feels contrived. I love flowers, though ☺️ but, then again, if the energy is not right, they don’t smell nice and they literally either don’t open fully or wither away very quickly. It’s the energy- I feel it when somebody cooks for us/me; foods taste differently when cooked with love or carelessly. Quality time is important but not essential. Everybody is busy. A single minute of really BEING with someone suffices. Touch… it depends on many things, but touch NEVER lies. Never- ever. It’s the raw energy that one cannot manipulate. I have received many hugs that were dishonest, I know how they feel. Not to embarrass the other, I had to pretend I didn’t know, but it hurt a lot. A lot. A lot. I know more about how I love than how I receive love. I haven’t had much of it. Not many can be so in tune with themselves and caring for the other. Oh, well… my favourite rationalisation is that it’s quality not quantity that matters. And I need to trust the other- if trust is not there, the relationship cannot work, it’s a no-go from the very start. In my books, trust cannot be restored- once gone, it’s gone forever.

It's not about labeling ourselves as much as it is trying to understand ourselves.. I felt alienated my whole life and as if I'm impossible to be understood no matter how hard I tried to explain myself to some people, so to actually realize that it depends on the personality types and that there are other people like me in this world with whom I might feel understood (INFJs and other personality types that match INFJs) is reassuring.. I think you’re reading motives Rather quickly here. Scientists label concepts because it is easier to talk about those concepts. In the same way, INFJs tend to be the scientists of psychology. They already naturally see the concepts. This gives them vocabulary to think and talk about the concepts easily. As far as categorizing goes, yeah, INFJs are abstract thinkers and value accuracy. Therefore they tend toward spending a lot of time categorizing abstract ideas into a “file system”.
