Hi Friends 👋🏻 This week I'm answering the question what does it mean to be an artist? Let me know in the comments what you think an artist is?

I think the process of creating art follows observation, invent, then sensitivity. I enjoy painting plants, flowers, weeds that kind of thing. So observation is first. Then a animated rendition comes next that's invention. Like us all , I'm almost sure we become sensitive to what we are creating for ourselves and others on the paper. Almost for , if possible , emotions can be created an expressed for both me and the observer to feel. You are wonderful to put so much effort into the videos that you make for all of us. Know that we all enjoy and appreciate them. Thank you so much.

An Artist is a person that creates. Your medium does not truly matter as long as your producing something, it can generate feelings for your viewer or just for YOU! There have been many people who create art that never sell a thing! Selling does not make an Artist. Creating videos is an Art. Editing is beyond so many people and others of us simply do not want anything to do with it! Glad your doing what you need to do to get bye! Take care and have a grand day! I would say I am a maker, I can get a project done and most times the medium does not matter!

I find myself being more an observer and a little bit of visionary, maybe more coregous sometimes.

Observer. I have been taking the time to look all around me no matter where I am. I look for colors and textures and listen for sounds. Sometimes I get a spark of an idea for a drawing, painting, art project. I just started to include art time in my daily to-do list even if it's 15 minutes, trying to move beyond observing and thinking about. Oh, I also observe lots of videos, lol.

I'm an observer. I'm not creative or sensitive, and definitely not a visionary. Images in my mind are vague and I need something concrete for a reference. However, I am much better at observing angles and shadows and relationships between objects. I'm better at seeing colors than I was before I began painting. Thanks for discussing this subject!

Loved this. Yeah, I've struggled with calling myself an artist. I'm more prone to call myself a creative. TBH, the artist label on me creates a pressure I'm not willing to endure right now. No matter how I try to qualify it, I still feel the pressure. I'm at a point where I just want to enjoy the process without the pressure. I've been a subbie for a while and your ART is beautiful BTW. Always enjoy your transparency

Elizabeth Keefner here. I’m behind on videos this week. We have just moved and still settling in. Also the house we bought is unfinished so the next 6 months are going to be crazy! Regardless I will watch all your videos. I just might be a few days late. I definitely see you as a visionary. Your watercolor collage portrait was so unique and creative and beautiful! As for me I think I am an observer right now. I look at a landscape in front of me and try to pick out all the colors I see and match them to my own watercolors. I have also really been observing other other art work trying to figure out how it was created. And your comment about your husband seeing only one magenta color cracked me up. My husband constantly lumps colors together. All shades of red are red etc.

I can't tell you how many times my husband and I fight (I use that term lightly) over colors. I've painted our living room a couple of times not happy with the color and my husband is like "isn't that the same color as last time." lol NOPE, definitely not.

I'm definitely a visionary. I see ideas that would inspire an idea in others, learning a wholistic view of the world - connections to others especially nature. Thank you for facilitating a space for the identification of types of artists, self reflection is sometimes difficult without creating a considered question. A bit of a breakthrough for me, I'm so grateful for this and your other videos x

An accessory truth about what it is to be an artist / maker: being romanced by supplies, because you're able to imagine all the possibilities! This might include your heart going pitter pat at all different brush styles and textures you haven't tried, being convinced you need to try some new kind of paper, falling in love with a color chart... it works for other types of makers too. I think among fiber artists its an agreed fact that collecting supplies and making stuff are two separate passions. 😆 Also, I'm curious about how you are storing paint tubes, we saw a clip here, do you have a video where you show that more fully? Looks interesting.

Thank you for covering this ... I am currently in a slump. BUT I woudl answer your questions with inventor, observer and maybe sometimes visionary... I love when a problem gets solved literally IN MY HEAD. I'd also like to know where you got that color wheel template... but as I'm typing I am thinking of ways to use my Cricut for making one! 🙂

Hi, Carrie! I am glad to see you posting. I love the project you created in the video. I suppose I am also a "visionary" because I am always thinking up new things to make. Many of my projects are what I call "Frankenstein" projects, which is a mixture of lots of ideas using different mediums and inspirations. But that is what makes them unique. I am sharing your video here with my Facebook art group. I think it is awesome and look forward of more to come from you!

I've been painting 20 years and really hesitate calling myself an artist because I think of Monet or Van Gogh, so I call myself a painter.😊

Enjoyed watching this video very much, it always amazes me,how creative and skilled, talented some people are! I don't think I fit in any category though... If you had a category " a person blindly stumbling around trying to find the way this medium works" I would fit nicely in it 😂 At the moment it looks like a minefield though... But jokes aside, artists or, broadly speaking, people who enjoy putting paint on some sort of medium, definitely are more observant, they look and see, when the non- artists just would " categorize" a subject into a drawer it belongs to without actually paying attention to what is it they are looking at. This perk alone is enough for taking up drawing or painting. Thank you for a lovely video, and all the best!

Thanks 😃 and yes we are definitely more observant. I remember talking with someone in Home Depot who painted their living room 5 times because the color wasn't just right. I told them - yeah same. If a color isn't quite right it can really bother me lol.
