The thing that most affects me about the travelers to Emmaus ... The very best sermon in the entire Bible is merely mentioned, and we are given only the most vague of outlines! Oh, to have heard that sermon. Imagine speaking to the author of the Bible, and having Him reveal from Adam to the maps every secret that is in it. Imagine Him showing how the passover was about the crucifixion, and the sacrifice in Genesis 22 was about the crucifixion, and how Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek tied in with it all. Imagine the many layered meanings that would flow out of every verse, as you learned what the Kinsman Redeemer meant, and why David called the Messiah his Lord. Could you catch it all; could you hold it? The revelation of God from the Word of God from the mouth of God - it is unimaginable. But Jesus poured out this instruction on two men, and opened their eyes. Why is it important that it was two? Because thus we know it was not a hallucination. Also two witnesses may testify to the truth.
