Laos literally gets to own the best looking bullet trains already and will even get so much more in years to come. China is big country with 1.4 billion people. Having a train to the largest market on earth surely will be beneficial. As this is Laos China cooperation both countries will definitely ultilise to get maximum out of it. Cannot wait to see the first freight train on its way from Laos to China This is just the beginning however there are still so much works to be done. So glad this project finally eventuated.

Best Part about this train is connecting the Lao cities. Improving connecting the mountainous region was always an issue in the past. Laos WILL benefit from this train in many aspects improving movement of Lao people through out the northern part of the country and providing more goods and services. Teachers from Vientiane can now reach isolated northern cities in hours instead of days! Integrating more people into the main Domestic economy. I am not a big fan of tourism. I understand this is the quickest way to inject money into the economy but this is not a long term solution to build a strong country. I can not think of one good example where a country mainly depends on tourism and becomes a admirable country. I hope Laos will invest in education and nurture businesses that can produce goods for domestic consumptions and export abroad. Laos is on the right "Track" ; )

First I want to send my best and respectful congratulations to Madame Ni Ni (so it's written in french language) for her clear synthesis about the nowadays Lao economy and the "revolution" event of Lao -China (Yunnan) fast train railway connection. From her speech we can clearly get a glimpse on laotian economy and it's result on lao population's income. 1-Tourism sector. 2-Electricity (battery for S.E.Asia) and mining sector. 3-Agriculture. From this situation we are able, in some way, to set up a view on future "what to do and what not to do". What to do: work for improving agricultural sector using more and more the trend for an healthy and ecological food. Laos with it's still largely intact splendid nature has all the potentialities for rallying the top ranked country in this field. Work for limiting the impact of mines sector and electricity furnishing on Lao environment. In that sens longviews appreciation shall prevail before short range views ( get money). The Mekong and it's basin has to be preserved from hazardous future for near living populations. What not to do: Mass tourism which will destroy the richness , plurality, beauty of Lao civilisation based mostly on Hinaya Buddhism and some animism cults. The greatest danger would be to see Laos get into a huge Dysney land museum . Backpackers visitors was the beginning of this danger. Middle class mass chinese visitors could give sad effects . It will be the responsibility of Lao goverment to prevent such dangers and take the adequate decisions. As the train connection should follow down to Singapour , I imagine, the same preventions and governance attitude should
Laos has plenty to offer for any visitor - thank you neenee 👌🙏😎👍

Sawadi Neenee, wow! What an amazing video on CLR. You've provided an accurate and promising forecast off benefits CLR brings to the world and Lao via KZbin. From land -lock to Land Bridge, the CLR brings many social, trade and economic benefits. Lao being sharing a border w China allows Lao's products, goods and services to be exported. Conversely, easier and cheaper and faster to import goods. Tourism, Industrial manufacturing and Agricultural sectors all will benefit greatly over next few years after connecting windows to the world via CLR is linked. The government must focus its greatest efforts and strenght and allocating all limited resources into education, import-export trade and international languages such as Mandarin and English to Lao people. Fyi, I grew up in Malaysia w 20 years experience, lived and educated in USA for 20 years and recently did business for 15-20 in Beijing, Shanghai, and shenzhen city, in china. I have witness China's rapid economic growth through opening of Special Economic Zones for yrading and investment to attract foreign investment. Due limited time and matter, we can catchup and talk more details on economic benefits the CLR brings. Fyi, i have work and managed many foreign joint JV enterprise in china since 1994. According to conservative calculations, the per capita GDP of Laos will surpass that of Thailand in 6 years, at around US$8,000 per capita because of this railway.

Love your optimism! But I'll take your bet. According to common sense, this will never happen. Pre covid, Thailand made 1 trillion Baht annually from tourism--just tourism. There's a reason why Lao's currency is falling against the Baht...😉
@yangyang93313 жыл бұрын
@@kammerjohn9553 You never know what you don't know. List a few simple figures. In 2019, the number of foreign tourists in Laos was 4.79 million. After the railway is completed, it will reach 15 million soon. The number of tourists is more than three times the original number after the railway is completed. It is a very conservative number. You have to take gifts home after travel to Laos for food, drink, housing, and transportation. This gives a multiplier effect of 5 times. You will know that an annual GDP growth of 15% is a normal thing. The only worry is the civil war or earthquake in Laos. Others will not change within six years. The per capita GDP of Laos has surpassed that of Thailand. Because 7 million people are too small, it is easy to get rich right away. Believe the numbers and don’t guess.
@zuloonyennyoc89143 жыл бұрын
@@yangyang9331 There are more concept to calculate the annual GDP growth. you can depend on tourists only. You have to have export of merchandise too. Laos doesn't have much export and industries so it can't compare to Thailand and Viet Nam.

@@zuloonyennyoc8914 Think about the sudden increase in tourists, is it necessary to build more hotels, buy more cars to operate, and sell more Lao products, because more tourist consumption makes Laos or investors see more products Demand, so they will buy land, build factories, produce products, these are GDP, my master is economics, unless your GDP is taught by aliens,GDP in Laos will only increase year by year, if you look at my message in 6 years, you will know what GDP is and the importance of advanced infrastructure.

You raise some very interesting & important points here Neenee. Overall managed well it should be a success story. After all is said and done China has built an amazingly successful network of hi speed railways to almost every corner of their country so techicnally the project should be sound. There is no doubt it will be good for the Lao tourist sector & will bring in much needed revenue. As for freight I think there could be an imbalance with far more freight arriving into the country from China than the other way around. If trains return to China basically empty that doesn't make good business sense. My main concern though is that if the railway is a runaway success then being built mainly as a single track line will inhibit growth and punctuality. There will be a limitation on the number of trains that can run on a single line and will affect train punctuality in the event of trains late running to shedule. To double track the line in the future will be far more costly than if it had been done from the outset. A lot of the tunnels and bridges appear to be built to single track width only. Just a few thoughts, but having said that, overall I do think it will be good for Laos if only because it is showing to the world that Laos is willing to look forward and to the future. 👍👍😊

I'm sure there will always be pros and cons in everything undertaking. It is no different than asking why does modernity matters, why we need mobile phones or modern communications network or modern travels like cars and jet planes. After all our earlier generations could thrive without these modern amenities. But what we need to be aware is that there are people who are being paid or with ulterior motive to politicize and blame China for every problems and hiccups in such as massive undertaking.

Of course Laos will benefit more than China, by linking to world biggest market, the transportation link important for Laos exports not only to China but other countries like Thailand in future. This link going to bring many tourists in future and open Laos to the world. China have many links to other parts of the world, Laos-China HSR only one of them. Many countries want link with China to increase import and export while lower freight cost but only China neighbours have this opportunity, so hope Laos will use the opportunity fullest to it potential and benefit the ppl, good luck.
When will western people understand that in order to have a good business environment transportation and infrastructure are must, yeah laos government took loan from China to construct but any business with long term goal does the same, it may not yield profit for now but you should look it in a broader context, for example just look at china now, how this transportation has made it possible for ease of business, don't be shortsightedness, look at the big picture

The best thing that is happening to Laos. Laos gains more actually. Never mind about the debts to China $12-13 billions. When you don’t have the money, you have to borrow. With the new railroad/train, Laos will pay off the debts in no time with the good management and no corruption. Most hydroelectricity dams are owned by the outside investors for the big chunk of each dam. Laos is not owned the majority of investment shares for each dam. That is why Lao people still paying high electricity-and have no choice on the hydroelectricity bills each month. Good luck though with the new train, with the beautiful mountains backdrop, and the people will come.

Nice. I was wondering who build it? Was it only chinese workers or Laos workers or a mixed labour? Laos will get a lot of negative comments about this BRI from the western parties. I think there will be benefits and also negatives. Though that may sound simplistic, I know that vacation time will be mandated by the money one can spend. Since the object is to get Laos richer, in the long term the country may lose out to tourism. If the "simple" buildings will be gone, do people want to live in high-rises? There is a movement in the West to locate a more authentic life, which means leaving the high rises behind. I don't think Laos is nowhere near that stage, but perhaps 50 years from now, Laotians will regret this and that, including this railroad. Also, each country looks at the country's benefit first. China included. So the question remains: Who will benefit the most? Since the railroad runs though Laos, shouldn't Laos get the most benefit? But the railroad was built by the Chinese, so shouldn't they get more benefit? I just don't think the benefit will be the same, but I can't predict the future.
