Sometimes the terrain can be so challenging that it is best to get off. You know you can ride it, but the power needed is such that it will screw up the rest of the ride. This is using brains instead of brawn, at a cost of some ego, but the total ride time will be less. It's a race, the finish is at the end, not at the top of any insanely difficult climb.

Did you come back from this feeling super fit? I feel like the tow strap mostly made you ride faster to keep up with Macky (my experience roping up during sea kayaking is that the assistance is helpful but it mostly makes me work harder than I would on my own). It seems to me that you are doing an amazing job keeping up. No way could have done that!

Yes and yes! It was crazy how much harder I worked being strapped up. I put down a lot of power PRs on this race. Racing and being tethered to him also taught me how to be more efficient when I race. It was such an all around win.
