Hearing you reason your way through each decision and play through bad situations is amazing. I've always loved the battle factory for how it makes it easy to try out all kinds of mons and has enough randomness to stay interesting while allowing for skill to shine through where it counts. The fact it's not in the newer games is such a big loss.
@LRXC18 ай бұрын
Totally agree, it’s eerily similar to a hardcore Nuzlocke! I plan to make a video on this comparison at some point!
@blubberfish8 ай бұрын
With how nuzlockes have blown up on pokemon youtube recently, I wouldn't be surprised if there's potentially a sizable audience for battle factory content just lurking under the surface. It's such a unique mode with how it forces you to account for and optimize so many things like team order and the risk-reward of scouting moves that I'm sure people will be drawn to it once they're reminded it's existence and how awesome it is. I think battle factory does have more of an uphill battle though. Nuzlockes have the benefit being easily incorporated into any game, but official battle factory content being stuck to gens 3 and 4 makes it less accessible and diverse. Battle factory can also get repetitive, and while I think the randomness massively heightens the skill ceiling with how good you have to be at thinking on your feet, it can also be a turn off. One place I see battle factory having a huge advantage over nuzlockes is through romhacks. While fans have made plenty of great nuzlockes, the formula of a nuzlocke is pretty set in stone. But one silver lining of battle factory's short lifespan is that as it's own game mode it is severely underexplored. Even something as simple as implementing items, a mulligan system when first selecting a team, or ways to tweak move sets with something like one use TM's can massively change how the game is approached. @@LRXC1

Found this randomly and just wanted to say that this is really good content. The mode is great, it's something that anyone can enjoy since the barrier of entry is really low. No need to build your pokemon from scratch, the starting line is the same for all. Rest is skill based, and on this point your commentary is really good, the rythm is nice and the slow paced nature of the combat goes well with the added tactical and strategical insight. Nowdays I just play the first 5 gen, since I don't like the newer games as much. And even then gen 3 is far from being my favorite, but here you just gave me a good reason to do emerald (only did saphir at the time and it was such a departure from crystal atmosphere...).

Love battle factory content! When emerald first came out I was what? 7? I never understood IVs or EVs, so battle factory already having pre-made Pokemon eased that aspect for me. I have a pretty large (70?) open level doubles record! It’s always so frustrating making mistakes from fatigue (forgetting to swap a Pokémon from clicking too fast, making an error of foolishly not predicting opponents move) but the biggest cruelty is always the draft!!! I remember having a god-awful draft on the run that knocked me out and it was brutal. But all of these reasons is why I LOVE the emerald battle factory! I could play for a lifetime!

"How did I do that?!?!" He says, after 30 minutes of using various tools and planning literally every possible outcome, doing the math, and thinking extremely hard on it.

I dunno what it is about having a list of all potential sets, and doing damage calcs online just feels like something I wouldn't ever do. But everyone has their own methods and this clearly works for you - I never got close to this in the battle factory, so maybe you need to have these resources to succeed.

I definitely think you need them to get very far, especially Round 8 and up where every Pokémon can be 4-8 different sets!!! Because even with the sheet you usually can’t know for sure what set a mon is going to be! I do understand the hesitancy with using external resources like this, resources not available back in 2004!
