I still maintain that the PS3's UI is as good as it has ever gotten for consoles trying to be multimedia machines. Since the mid 2000s the ambitions of these systems has sort of shrunk down but with some minor refinements the XMB could have been everything it needed to be and more. All I wish it had was custom folders, really.

I agree with that, the ps3 UI is clean, absolutely the best UI of any games console, i disagreed with many of Scotts takes especially when he said Xbox is just Halo, Gears and Forza, which maybe true in the following generations but he clearly hasn't delved deep enough into Xbox 360's exclusive library which overall is on par with ps3. In the end to me, this is the most equal Generation alongside the Snes and the Mega Drive. My PS3 and Xbox 360 are still hooked up to the tv to this day.

360 UI could've been great. The blades dashboard needed a lot of refinements. But it was a good idea for a layout, imo. It's stylish and interesting unlike the later iterations.

I know the PS3 was expensive at launch but it was worth every penny. More usb ports than you know what to do with, an array of card readers, amazing Blu-ray player and partial backwards compatibility. Although I do understand it wasn’t for everyone and the 360 had better multiplayer experiences for people who wanted that.

They actually fixed Red Ring of Death on Xbox 360 Fat. At some point at Middle 2008, they finally fixed it. And they are much better than Slim/E models except for Wi-Fi. Jasper and Falcon motherboards are fixed ones for fat 360. They both have HDMI and available on both black and white models.

I think the Xbox 360 is better overall because the operating system, online service, it was popular early on with Halo and Gears of War, Forza, and had more exclusives than PS3, back when Xbox actually cared about exclusives! But PS3 did get better when they lowered the price of the console and got exclusives like Uncharted, Little Big Planet, MGS4, those were the games that helped turnaround the PS3!

No you're not. Its not as bad as people make it out to be. Its got some good points to it for sure, just looks a tad boring compared to the first two models and it did get a lot of physical downgrades here and there. For the pros, it traded out the awful touch sensor for the power and eject buttons the S model had for traditional physical buttons. It uses the least amount of power overall so it runs really cool and is reliable as a result. Lastly it also has a nice looking blue model that stands out quite a bit. As for the cons, it lost some USB ports, completely dropped the digital audio port, traded the multi-AV out port that supported Component, S-Video and Composite for a Composite only 3.5mm video port (though admittedly this doesn't matter as much since analog was on its way out everywhere and HDMI was very prevalent when this model came out) and, to many Xbone haters, it took on the aesthetic of the original Xbox One which many didn't like. Now me personally I don't mind the Xbox One look as I think that console looks pretty sleek, but I will say the original and S model 360s have a lot more character than the E does hence why the E looks more boring to me minus that lovely blue model I mentioned earlier.

They dropped support for component and VGA cables by using a new video port and there's no toslink port. In general the E was cheaply made. They made it look similar in design to the newer gen Xbox one to encourage sells through trickery. Imagine how many oblivious parents would have bought their kids 360 E systems instead of the Xbox one their kids wanted for Christmas and birthdays. But yeah, in short the E model was a cheaply made downgrade that offered more storage on some models kind of like what the ps3 super slim did but at least the super slim still retains features like the optical port, something I like to have the option to use when I want to run audio through a home theater system or soundbar and use hdmi just for the visuals.

Important notes. So originally xbox 360 had free multiplayer (i played halo 3 without gold for a while but couldn't play ranked modes). it was 2 tiers one silver one gold. Silver still could play online games just more limited in options such as no ranked. Some f2p games also allowed online play for free.. Later they changed it so silver can't play online at all. Pretty sure party chat was also limited on the tiers as well.

The thing about the backwards compatability is that it was a way a lot of us experienced the original Xbox games. The original Xbox didn't touch the PS2's sales numbers, but the 360 and PS3 were close. A lot of people had the PS2 and the PS1 already.

This pretty much sums up my history with the consoles. In early 2009 I bought a “Falcon” 360 (revised, supposedly post-red ring chip in the original chassis) new-in-box from a dude on Craigslist who got it for free with a TV mostly for the purpose of playing Halo 3/Reach/Orange Box/etc with my undergrad roommates, which we did a ton of. Later that year or the year after, my dad also grabbed a PS3 slim as a blu ray player. So at school I would play my 360, and 90% of the third party games I owned were for the 360, and then I would go home for like winter break, etc, and just binge my way through PS3 exclusives. And I think by the time that generation ended the PS3 was kinda my slight favorite despite the 360 probably getting exponentially more use.

PS3 was the winner for me I had that, the 360, and the Wii. They all had their purposes for me, PS3 was action adventure, single player, any kind of game you play alone or depending on what the genre is playing online sometimes, the 360 was to play FPS shooters online with everyone in my school or gears, and the Wii was for fun and on the couch playing. The reason why the PS3 wins for me is because of its library and the fact that it can play PS1 and PS2 that I had a ton of as well.

I bought both when they launched and I enjoyed both of them, but I'll definitely have to give the nod to the 360. The way Sony's RAM was set up in the PS3 meant that some games performed extremely slowly while they ran pretty smooth the 360. Just play Civilization Revolution on each console to see my point. Moreover, love it or hate it, the 360 was the inventor of achievements and they continued to improve with time, whereas Sony's list of Trophies never compared, at least in the PS3 era.

I liked both equally. I was late in getting a PS3 tho. Had just a 360 up until like 2011. Got a PS3 and didn't touch the 360 for like a year and a 1/2. I remember my friends asking where I been because 09-10 we were gaming heavy online. And majority of my friends had 360. When I got the PS3 I loved it because I had a lot of great games to play and didn't have to wait for the sequels...All 3 resistance fall of man games were out, All 3 uncharted games were out etc...I was able to play those games consecutively, which was nice.

@@reinhartabdi9639 People are entitled to their opinion, but like I said, while the Xbox 360 had quality games such as Halo games, which are solid, but the PS3 had more quality games to offer me, that catered to my needs of being an FPS and Light Gun type of guy. So, to each their own. The Xbox 360 was solid, but the PS3 blew me away, and considering that the PS3 ended up beating the Xbox 360 in sales at the end, even though it had a terrible launch and was 1 year behind, is a testament to what I'm saying.

Also, the multiplatform stuff was overblown. Outside of a few cases, mainly Bethesda and a couple early titles, the differences between 360 and PS3 versions were miniscule and barely noticeable. By "better" if you mean a couple extra pixels or a slightly darker shadow, then sure, but I'm talking about reality where nobody notices or cares about such miniscule things. If they were noticeable, they wouldn't have needed fanboy bait sites like Digital Foundry or Lens of Truth to point out those miniscule differences. It would be obvious. Like I said, outside of a few rare exceptions (Fallout, Splinter Cell, Bayonetta etc...), the differences between the two versions were to small to notice or care about. Xbox fanboys just liked to pretend they could because they were trying to justify their purchase after MS stopped making exclusives later in the gen. I owned both systems over the course of the gen rebought many games on the PS3 after having played them first on the 360. 43 seconds in and I'm like, "wrong!" . Stopped watching after that. Xbox 360 had more than 3 variants. Dude forget the Xbox 360 elite. That should tell you everything you need to know right there. Xbox 360 made a lot of mistakes before they got it right and gave you what the ps3 gave day one.The Xbox 360 elite was the first variant to come with a hdmi port. The 360s was the variant that came with built in WiFi. I had the OG premium xbox 360 version that came with the 20GB hardrive and the peripherals for gaming online. That version had chrome on the design to set it apart from the basic model that required memory cards to save your game. When I had that Xbox I didn't have a HD tv so I didn't need the hdmi port. I traded that Xbox in and got the ps3 at launch because the 360 wasn't working properly and was coming close to red ring dying. It gave me orange ring warnings a few times before I got rid of it in 2007. I didn't get another Xbox 360 until they finally got it right. I got the 360 s last year for £40 because it was £40 and I fancied playing Alan wake and Alan wake American nightmare on the original hardware it was made for, ahead of getting Alan wake 2 for my ps5. I also had recently bought a 40GB ps3 for £40 4 or 6 months earlier but because I was using it to record tv shows as well as gaming on, my hardrive space was reduced so I chose to get games that could be played straight of the 360 which I wouldn't need to install like on the ps3. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with games like GTA4. It loads straight off the disc and boots up pretty quick.The 360 version looks better as well. I bought some of the games I already had for the ps3, but the 360 versions. I used the ps3 quite a lot on a daily basis but it was £40 for a reason. It stopped working towards the end of this year's summer. I bought a 500GB ps3 super slim a couple of weeks ago for under £60 using a CEX store voucher I got for trading some games I didn't want. I went with that model because it was the last version, the only version I never owned and with its large hardrive I could install my entire ps3 game library and still have a ton of free space left after that. Ps3 super slim is probably my go to console at the moment and I have a ps4 pro, ps5, Xbox one x running on a different set up in a different room from my older consoles, simply because of the simplicity, the use of Blu-ray when I'm using my 24 inch PlayStation simulview monitor and the ps3's game library. Whilst most 3rd party games run and look better on the 360, the ps3 more than makes up for that with it's wide range of exclusives. A cheap 360s and a cheap ps3 super slim is having the best of both worlds.

Most stuff was wait and see back then. Bought a ps2 after our 64. When GameCube price dropped we was a two console house. My brother couldn't understand why I wanted a second console but by the end it was all cube gaming. 360 was the next obvilous choice. Price and timing. Ps3 second gen comes out. We done played the exclusives. Time for playstation games on a discounted console... I bought a wii in-between cause there was one available at our local Walmart which at the time was like finding a 4 leaf clover.

360 was a powerhouse and clearly the “better” console to play games on but PlayStation had a few hidden cards up its sleeve that made up for that. free online, at launch backwards compatibility was through the roof and so many utilities that weren’t game related. Idk just because the ps3 had more games doesn t mean that they are better. Especially considering that only few ips where actually as good. Xbox games had both killer single players that could be played in coop and really really strong multyplayers. Halo 3 alone had like infinite hours of content. No ps3 game could offer that. And u are unederestimating temporal exclusives, i mean they got rockstar to develope two gta dlcs for the xbox, mass effecr 1 was locked on the xbox system almost for the whole generation, i don t think that having kratos on mk9 is as worth Also the witcher 2 never came on the ps3 In the end the 360 was just better and the only thing that saved the ps3 was the brand legacy

Despite its weaker graphics card and more difficult-to-control processor, the PS3 still sold more games and itself than the Xbox 360. Currently, the prices of the first versions of the PS3 are sometimes several times higher than any version of the Xbox 360, and every version of the PS3 up to the Slim model version 25xx can use custom software and overclock the graphics processor, which increases its performance from 5% to even 20% depending on the type of RSX chip and the game. Thanks to the BluRay drive, it's still a good movie player today. The Sony console has simply aged much better.

For me i just liked using the playstation controller more. Grew up with a playstation and ps2 but friend owned an xbox, i got a ps3 friend got 360. Ps controllers always felt more ergonomic and prefered them for hours long sessions but xbox is still more than fine. Also grew up a huge crash, spyro, and ratchet fan and prefer those to any exclusive that xbox got, but lets be real, MAG is the whole reason PS3 was better

I was ps3 only 99% of that gen. Had a 360 for about a total of 3 or 4 weeks, loved the ps3 alot more due to being a broke middle school kid, so the free online was clutch. Fast forward to 2023 i got a 360 and a bunch of exclusives. I can certainly say with 20/20 hindsight that the 360 was better.

@crestofhonor2349 I understand that the look of the game might not match current trends, with its heavy use of disaturated browns and effects like bloom and motion blur etc. However, I think the dislike comes from the overuse and unrefined application of these techniques during the PS3/360 era. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 prove that, when used thoughtfully, these effects can still create stunning visuals. Killzone 2 was an early example of how to use them effectively.

@@JackieMB92 Killzone 2 still looks extremely dated even outside of it's color palette. It looks like a game from the PS3 era and the game isn't even what I'd consider the best looking games from the 7th generation. It's nice looking for the time though

After my second 360 died I got a PS3. It also had way more memory and I didn't have to pay for online yet. And my friends also had PS3. I had the 60gb non backwards compatible fat model

My biggest issue with every Xbox console is their controller. I must be one of the two people in the world who can't stand having the analog stick staggered like that. It's just uncomfortable to hold. But that's just my opinion, most people seem to love it

360 has a lot of lesser known exclusives that are pretty good. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Amped 3, Culdcept Saga, Magna Carta 2, Ninja Blade, Velvet Assassin and a bunch more. Probably still the ps3 has the edge, but I would say it's much closer.

I think both were very good. I owned PS3 as my main console and for some time xBox 360 Slim, I didn't own many games for the xBox but console UI was faster that PS3.

Both great consoles. X360 was superior for multiplayer gamers. Better multiplayer exclusives (Halo and Gears alone) and Xbox live way way better than PSN (even tho it wasn’t free)

Part of the reason for the PS3 exclusives is just because Japanese publishers favor the console that actually sells in japan. The Xbox has never sold well in Japan. Other than that I would say the Xbox 360 had the more powerful hardware but Sony had the most talented technical developers. They knew the best way to pull out the best of the hardware they had. However pretty much all multiplatform games performed better on Xbox 360 for a reason and that was because the 360 had the better hardware despite the issues with developing for the PS3.

Huh? The 360 still had some exclusive games by Japanese publishers and in fact so did the original Xbox. It was only with the Xbox One onwards that they went extinct. Even if you look at just 1st party exclusives, not only did Microsoft not quite have the same strength in depth as Sony or Nintendo, they weren't widely utilised. After 2010, if you weren't into Kinect and wanted something other than Halo, Forza or Gears, you were out of luck.

@@strykah92 Microsoft was trying to get into the Japanese market by getting titles like Blue Dragon but all of those efforts failed because they could never really move units. Most Japanese games still went with Playstation for the most part

3:27 Models from 2008-2010 came with HDMI and the RROD was pretty much solved at that point. I had the white Pro HDMI 60gb model from 2008 and it's never had an issue in my time owning it and playing it excessively, leaving it on overnight, etc. 16 years.

Looking back the 360 really feels like a fluke. They built on everything they had from the last gen and made it bigger and better and was the pioneer for online at the perfect time. But the early models had the lifespan of a fruit fly and Microsoft got completely lost in the sauce with the connect and multimedia shit. Now they’re just “we don’t care as long as you pay for game pass”

I was a nintendo kid my whole life and when the wii came out i was in high school with a truck and i felt nintendo had abandoned me and so i never got a wii and i took a break from games for a lil bit and wasnt quiet ready to switch to sony or microsoft yet and then around 2010 i got a 360 for like 2 month and played forza and skate but overall wasnt impressed with it and sold it and then i bought a ps3 around 2012 and liked it alot and then 2014 i bought a ps4 specifically for driveclub and tomb raider and absolutely loved the ps4 generation because it reminded me of a grown up version of the ps2 and gamecube era.. the ps3 era was so brown and gray and bland to me which was my high school experience overall lol...and those are my thoughts on the ps3 vs 360 generation, thanks for reading.😅

In this age of streaming, the included Bluray is not worth mentioning. A lot of your list needs to be weighted. Choosing the best controller is huge, as opposed to thinking about accessories. For me, I put in rechargeable batteries in the 360 and it gave me great charge times. The inferior feeling PS3 controller? Battery sucked. PS4 even worse. Not so simple to just change out those batteries either. Graphics is a toss up. 3rd party games typically looked better on 360, exclussives PS3 had the edge. But for exclussives, I have to go with PS3. Uncharted 2 beats Halo 3.

Xbox 360 has the better operating system and the PS3 is just more powerful on all accounts. The cell processor was very powerful at the time. But I think that Xbox 360 have the best games that generation. PlayStation is won every other generation though and is winning the current one as well. I just bought a PS3 with like 20 games a couple months ago and I've been playing it more than my PS5. With games like Max Payne 3, metal gear solid 4, and Ninja gaiden sigma, I've been busy.

In my opinion Xbox 260 is better, this is due to the majority of games that were on both ps3 and Xbox looked and played soooooo much better on Xbox, ps3’s colours would be washed out and fps would be poor as well as the resolution would be lower. But in all honesty I prefer the exclusives on Xbox. I ended up selling my ps3 to buy a psp because I wasn’t playing the exclusives and I had the majority of the games I like on Xbox. Also multiplayer was way bretter on 360.
