Thanks for the insight. Unfortunately this all sounds very negative for the short and long term with regards to our investments, inflation and the economy potentially. The inclusion of pensions from 2027 in inheritance tax is shocking and will probably change my investment strategy. The FTSE is down almost 200 points in the last 3 days, and bond yields are soaring so the markets are not liking it either. There is nothing much to counteract this as global markets are also in decline, particularly in the US today where bond yields are also soaring.

This budget is bad news for the Pension Industry as people will question the long term value of a pension. When funds are drawn down at a faster rate to minimise the inheritance tax Pension managers will have fewer funds to manage and this will affect employment in this sector.

As pensions will attract IHT and income tax if death occurs after the age of 75 years, I imagine there will be a rush to move investments out of pensions in the next two years. The problem is where should it be invested once the ISA allowance is exhausted? There will be plenty of business for estate planners after this budget.

@@Fella-hn7iv I guess a percentage loss would be a more meaningful measure in some respects. Things seem to be very volatile globally at the moment, including the bond market in which more is invested for the cautious portfolios. So with global equities AND bond prices falling at the moment, it is not a good news. Also, the US markets fell sharply on Thursday which won't show up yet in the portfolio, so worse to come in the short term unfortunately.
