Great video again! I have found that keeping table bins out and ready at the beginning of class causes some squirmy kids to keep touching supplies. Instead, I have “materials managers” bring them to tables when work time starts.

Oh yeah! I never even tried leaving supplies on tables. I knew it would be a disaster for me. I don’t know how people make that work!?!

I'm glad you made this video. I wanted to push thumbs up for each comment you made. What are some attention getters that could work in rowdy classes? I am in middle school, but is seems like elementary most days this year with negative behavior and meanness.

I use a bell for students to stop look and listen and macaroni and cheese everybody freeze for clean up. Teaching the attention getters and reinforcing that they are not going away but a routine that will be used each class is key. Hello!! I'm a first year art teacher. What kind of art choices/activities do you give to the students on the ketchup and pickle day? I'm assuming that if students have unfinished projects that you don't display their art in the hallways with the rest of the class. Does that make them sad? Do you find that students actually make an effort to finish incomplete work while the rest of their friends are having fun with the "pickles"? Also, if they have to finish artwork and it's a messier medium, do you find it difficult to keep an eye on those students that are catching up on their work while the rest of the students are choosing their art activities?

I have a video that answers many of your questions. Ketchup and Pickle Day kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4KzpK2Iotuof9k My students are pretty motivated to not be a ketchup and we discuss a goal each week that they should aim to complete. Most ketchups were absent students. Once they catch up they can have free time. I always have one project from each student in the hallways. Occasionally they are not finished in time to display their work but it motivates them in the future to finish. The pickle side is pretty independent as you will see from the video.
