It's Meadville, pronounced "meed-ville" The DeArment family still owns it, and have been great benefactors to the Meadville area. As you are coming into Meadville, from I-79, the first thing you notice is a huge 30'x50' American flag at the Channelock plant. Makes me proud to live in this county every time I pass it.

@@cb7pwn That's objectively false. A wagon and a car aren't "that special" in that they both succeed in getting you from point a to point b. But one objectively, through deterministic values, performs better than the other. I own both Channellock (as part of my only US made tools work bag) and Knipex as well for home use. The difference between the two are night and day, though both are amazing products that I wouldn't swap the either for. The Knipex has a larger and more specific range of adjustability. The Knipex has harder, more durable teeth. The Knipex has less slop and tighter tolerances in manufacture. 22 dollars for Channellock vs 32 for the Knipex. For what you get, the Knipex are worth it.

@@RichardBonecito Knipex teeth are objectively harder. Knipex size ranging is objectively larger. The Knipex fit and finish have tighter tolerances. All of these are objectively better than the Channellock. The only subjective matter is the cost-reward ratio of what you pay for the Knipex and whether or not they're "worth it".

Great video! Born and raised in Meadville (Meed-ville) and know lots of people who work at ChannelLock. The DeArments (Dee-Art-Ments) are still local and very influential in the area. When I was in middle school we had a field trip to ChannelLock and got to see the whole process. Great company!

Speaking of "Champion," a guy from France, came to America, as a professional bicyclist. He later invented (or developed) a decent spark plug. His name, Albert Champion. Champion Spark plugs bought him out, so he went to work for GM, and got sued, for putting his own name on GM's spark plugs. GM's line of electronics, AC. Interesting history. I have a Channellock ratchet and socket set that I keep in my car. It's been a great go to set. Well designed compact case too. Made in China or Taiwan but quality tools all the same. Their pliers were some of the first new Made in USA tools I bought for myself. No complaints.

I work there and they call every plyer by it's number and I still haven't figured them all out. I tell everyone that I work with they are CHANNELLOCKs. You either want the big one, the little one, or the regular. Also we don't have a single crescent wrench in the building they are ADJUSTABLE WRENCHES. Lol

I’m partial to Knipex. Not American, but German. Those tools are amazing. You notice the second you use it that it’s something else, and you doubly realize that after 10 years, when you still notice that it’s something else every time you use it.

I do the same thing. My son is just starting out in the mechanic world and one day he asked me did I have a hex wrench? I paused for a second and wondered what did he just ask me so I responded with "you mean an allen wrench"? He said "yeah". I'm old school and call things by the brand name. Just so happen that my allen wrenches are Made by Allen. Bought back in the 90's made in the USA 🇺🇸. Still work just fine

Do It Best Hardware carries a good deal of Channellock and it’s where I picked up a catalogue myself. The combination wrenches are made by Infar and are the same as the Carlyle wrenches.

I have a pair of Channel lock tongue and groove pliers 10 in and are great pliers to own that are made in the USA. I also purchased a 200 pcs mechanical tools from Sam's Club. They are made in China, but they're good tools for personal use.

I have a very small selection of Channellock tools, and I absolutely love them. I have a brand new(ish) pair of 908 wire strippers and a not so new 337 diagonal cutters, both work very great for me. I also have two 430 pliers that were recently given to me, which are beat to shit and very old, but are still very functional.

Bear, Thanks for sharing made in USA products. I have a drawer full of channellock blue at home, as well as at work. Now granted I have a few Knipex and Wilde Tool and even some speciality Vampliers. But when I reach for a tool, it Usually has that channellock blue handle on it. I have seen the socket sets, tool boxes and shop vacs at Ace Hardware, and being imports I just can't buy them, although I will say that channellock blue wheelbarrow is sharp. As a retired pipe trades journeyman, I made my living with locking pliers for 30 years. I tried them all in that time, and I can tell you without hesitation, that Channellock brand locking pliers are the origial ones and they are still best.

From being in a country town those pliers are for doing fences. They allow you to nail in staples or pull to them out along with cutting the wire. When stretching barbed wire you can use them to get the line tight

You’re thinking of fencing pliers. They are a magical multi-use tool. While you could, I guess, use Channellocks, and I do use them as hammers, the fencing pliers are something else. As I typed, the pictures of different tools flashed by, including the fencing pliers. I’m sure that’s what triggered your comment. Anyway, cheers to the best country multi tool! God bless

Have always had my Channellocks, from the tiny 424 to the bigazz pair, the lovely 415 smooth jaw, and my two wire strippers (sadly, the discontinued one). Also have a couple of their really nice long phillips screwdrivers, retaining ring pliers, fence pliers ( yeah, know what those are :). never broken a pair or needed warranty.

I just can't do it, I just cannot do it. I won't tell people what to call their tools, but when a more generic term is available for a tool type then using a specific brand name generically just makes one sound like an idiot. It just plain sounds unintelligent. I say if you wanna keep calling them channellocks without sounding dumb, buy the blue handles. Buy actual channellock pliers.

Thanks for the video. I just bought a channellock crimper. I love their tools. I have several that were my dad's from the 1970's. They still work and I will never replace them unless I break it. My dad's best advice as a DIYer...buy channel lock brand channel locks. Crescent brand crescent wrench. Vise grips brand vise grips (now Irwin). That netted me quality tools for a good price point when I was young and poor.

Me and another guy were installing a spring loaded drum with a small steel cable attached, I took a pair of "Channel locks" to pull the cable out to attach it to a pin, I had it lined up with the pin and he was about to install it when the grips slipped of the pliers, we both could have gotten seriously injured, That the last time I buy off brand Channel Locks, a lot of tools you don't even have a choice now days but right now you do with Channel locks and I hope it stays that way.

Yes they are and I still love ' em. I've got an original pair of Champion Dearment #420 channellocks from 1933 that belonged to my grandfather and they're still going strong. Yep a 1933 patent date on 'em because they jumped the gun before the patent was actually granted. I wish instead of the new uglyfuturistic looking gimmicky crap they're releasing to compete with Knipex they'd release a heritage series with the old forged handle pattern they used before 1955.

i recently found a 12" channel lock crescent wrench at the flea market. it said made in usa. it was pretty beat up so i sent it back for a replacement. the new channel lock adjustable wrench said it was made in spain!!

european nations with a rich manufacturing history are ok on my book. Spain has had some great manufacturers and steel workers specially in the basque area. One of the most renown axe makers today is from the basque country and straight razor brands made in spain back in the straight razor golden days are held in high steem among the collectors.

You talk about the proper names for tools. How about using the proper place names of Western Pa, :-). The lake is Connie - et, (conneaut lake). The town is like the drink, Mead, Mead-vil. I applied for work at Channellock when I graduated from High School. You did a previous video of the Crescent brand. The former Crescent tool factory and the Channellock Factory are only about 60 miles apart.

I was considering a change from Channellocks, so I took a look at the Knipex factory on-line tour. Looked good until the final third of their show. Their narrative changed from about tool quality to them congratulating themselves for their European social agenda application. For me it's about tool quality and not about paying for America's enemies' lifestyle. (So, I'm staying with Channellock blue.)
