One of the best decisions made by Dre was leaving Death Row. He knew that if he stuck with and relied on another person, he would never go beyond.

According to Jimmy Iovine he told Dre that what he was looking for was not to be under the thumb of anyone else, that's what had him wanting to leave Ruthless Records in the first place and why he became interested in starting up Death Row Records with Suge Knight, Harry-O, David Kenner and Dick Griffey. Jimmy encouraged Dre to completely walk away from Death Row and leave it all behind and demand nothing for it, just let it all go, which is exactly what he did. Investment and all, Dre bounced from Death Row and went on to start his own label. Then came Aftermath to "drop bombs like Hiroshima."

And it was later found that Suge engineering Pac's death. And that was all after Dre left. Then after Dre left, everybody also left, including Snoop.

Suge's reputation is well known but he isn't that guy people seem so bent on trying to make him out to be. Their whole point of view of him has nothing to do with anything that they know of him on a personal level. All their information is third party info and completely twisted up at that. Suge despite for being known to bully and shake people down, which is true, he still has a big heart in him and has done a lot of good things that his haters never want to talk about. Funny how those who have more of a reason to hate on him, don't hate on him at all. See what Snoop has to say about Big Suge. I personally know Suge but you don't know me so my word is not going to hold much weight for you and that is fine, as I wouldn't suggest anyone take anyone's word on anything. If you don't know there is nothing at all wrong with that. Its claiming to know what you don't know and projecting it as if you do know that becomes a problem for people.

The main part a LOT of people miss is just how young Dr. Dre was when he was with N.W.A (early 20s) and just young that group was in general. So more than HALF his life Dr. Dre has been a SUPER producer. Being that focused and dedicated from early on going forward shows he lives for this craft. Also the "hidden" genius of Dre being a "perfectionist" is that I GUARANTEE the songs people do with Dre are the ones they remember the best simply because they had to work on it and repeat it so long. Bonus also that as an artist they're often hearing the full dynamic range of their voice, inflection, and building stamina on essentially saying the same things over and over (which they'll have to do on tour a LOT). Lastly Dre's "perfectionist" style is a good training ground for having a new artist become comfortable with actually listening to their own voice and adjusting it without getting overly tired (Which is at the core of their profession). That's why Dr. Dre is ALWAYS on the Producer's Mt. Rushmore!! Thanks for posting this. This was a true delight to see.

We never got Detox because of those god damn headphones! I remember someone asked ice cube about Detox more than a decade ago and he laughed and said we will never see that album as long as Dre is selling headphones for 200 bucks a pair. My personal theory is it'll get released when he dies unless he's destroyed the masters his family will put it out, it's not that they'll need the money but the longer they hold in to them after his death the less valuable they become especially when your talking about rap music and how fans don't really celebrate rappers from previous generations you gotta get that shit out before all dre's fans die too. one thing that don't get talked about when Detox gets mentioned is all the artists especially up and coming artists that wasted time in Dre's studio recording for the most anticipated rap album of all time, doing their best work thinking they are about to blow up only to never have your work leave the studio, that's gotta suck. I'm sure they at least got paid the industry minimum or whatever but they're still missing out on all of their publishing, if they were even entitled to such a thing. I'd love to know how much money a few verses on an album like 2001 brings in over time, like say Hitman had a few I wonder how much his publishing check is from his work on 2001. I bet it's 5 figures a year 10 or 12k

I've still never been in a booth, but the chronic would of been cool. And tonight Im put down the cigarettes, I quit drinking alcohol about 6 years ago.maybe a few drinks I'm between nothing big. But it's been long over due I make a few more changes in my life. And I really do want to everyone, I use to be a real hard person to be around, but music always could calm me down to a point where I'm centered. Like a bout month ago, Jim Cary explained it the best, like am all of a sudden clarity, what ever hold was on me just let go. But so many artist have made good ass music, and whether I get to be a part of that directly isn't what's most important to me.
