Mrs. Bates, I guess if my sister needed flowers we could afford to buy them!

The location used was BRILLIANT!!! It's in Hancock Park which is compromised of mainly large Spanish and Tudor style homes... but the producers lucked out because Jane's neighbors home next door looks new and modern due the fact that a carport and family room addition was added behind the older home (not shown in the film)... thus giving the illusion that Jane is stuck living in relic of the past, compared to the neighbor's newly built present day structure... even the cars in their driveways are decades apart in age!

I never understood the note tossing bit. Why didn't Blanche just yell out to the neighbor? She also had plenty of chances to ask the housekeeper to get her out of there.

At this point she was supposed to be too weak from lack of food and water to be able to shout loud enough to be heard. She makes several attempts to phonate and nothing comes out.

@@LaDivinaLover Well, she certainly was having it out with Jane at that point. It was only after Jane beat her and then tied her up in bed that she was too weak to say anything, but at this point, she seemed strong enough.

During the filming of Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), Joan Crawford acknowledged to visiting reporter/author Lawrence J. Quirk the difficulty she was having with Bette Davis because of the Oscar incident but added, "She acted like Baby Jane was a one-woman show after they nominated her. What was I supposed to do, let her hog all the glory, act like I hadn't even been in the movie? She got the nomination. I didn't begrudge her that, but it would have been nice if she'd been a little gracious in interviews and given me a little credit. I would have done it for her."

Another wonderful Bette Davis movie made in 1964 a thriller/horror genre is. " Dear Ringer ". starring Bette as twins. Also starring Karl Maldon, & Peter Lawford. A great film along the same lines as " Baby Jane" and " Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte "." Dead Ringer " was directed by Paul Henrietta who starred with Bette in " Now Voyager. " A must see for all Bette Davis fans and fans of psycho / Murder thrillers.

Sorry for the spelling mistakes. The film is called "Dead Ringer" the Director is Paul Henroid not Henrietta.

Well, the movie reviewers were no help. They focused practically all of their praise on Bette, and some even made it a point to pan Joan's performance.

The one issue that I have with this entire scenario is why Blanche was relying on tossed notes out the window to obtain help. She could have just asked the housekeeper to take her out of there, or simply called out to the neighbor who was within easy earshot. She controlled most of the finances, so she did not have to worry about what she would do or where she would go after freeing herself from Jane.

Why the neighbours never discovered before???? The houses are so close.
@nassauguy48
@nassauguy48 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, this really was a bit lame. I mean, that neighbor was nosy enough as it was, and all Blanche had to do was cry out to her from the window when Jane was not around. And what about the maid Elvira? She already knew that Blanche was being shabbily treated, and all Blanche had to do was ask Elvira to take her out of the house. DUH!

Funny you should say that because Madonna and Lady Gaga were mentioned as possible actresses for a remake of Baby Jane. Madonna of course was mentioned for the Bette Davis role. I'm sure Madonna wouldn't mind smacking Lady Gaga around a few times as the role calls for. Madonna would probably relish replaying the scene where Bette kicks Joan a dozen times.
