I've been solving cube for years with CFOP using 2 look OLL and 3 algorithms for permutation. It took 55 seconds to solve. This was enough for me and I did not even think about learning more algorithms to become faster. I recently found the Roux method by accident. A few hours of study, a few days of practice, and I solve a cube in 40 seconds without learning a single additional algorithm. Now I'm much more interested in trying new methods than getting faster in one. You will eventually become faster if you enjoy the practice!

Sean, I'm not sure if this video is meant for me, as I don't really qualify as young.. But first off thank you for making this video and all other videos you've made for the community. As well as all the advice you have given on the Facebook group, it is extremely helpful and very kind of you to do so. Now as I said, I'm not quite a young cuber. And I get the point you want to bring across here. An important lesson is that you need to practice and work on being efficient. But I think you're cutting a few corners by simplifying the process so much. One sided PLL and OLL recognition, finding, establishing your AUF, optimzing your finger tricks, tracking and predicting your next F2L pair, making an efficient cross while also planning your first F2L pair. Those are all fairly abstract and difficult skills you will need to learn eventually. Practicing isn't enough, and labelling all of that as efficiency doesn't seem right to me either, you need to know what you should practice so you are practicing the right things. Don't get me wrong, I think all of those are less important than the message you got across. But I also feel like the current picture you draw is not the full picture.
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
There are certainly finer details, however the picture I'm trying to make is that the main difference between someone who is at 30 seconds and someone at 10 is usually just efficiency. The practice aspect is what is a big aspect that influences looking ahead as well as "finger tricks" through the muscle development. Many of the skills that you list begin to happen automatically with the years of practice. I've made many videos on more specific pets, however hoped to show that there isn't really a big secret trick, but just mainly efficiency and practice.

I’m thankful for exactly what you said is exactly what I wanted to hear . Practice. And my journey is exactly that. Intuitive till after ftl. I also know I’m not learning more algs. More learning. 45 seconds adv is where I’ll stay till I do.

Went back to cubing, what are the issues you've encountered after you used vitress as a lubricant?
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
After some time it can make the cube sticky and very difficult to clean
@slapshock81652 жыл бұрын
Can't afford lubes so i was thinking to use vitress or buy z lube for my rs3m 2020
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
Remember that cubes do not need lubrication to perform well. It's only to adjust what feeling you were looking for and prefer. If you don't know what to get just get something that is 100% silicone. There are spray bottles at hardware stores or you can get something like Traxxas found at hobby shops for small gears.
@Aaron-rw3lv2 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedCubeReview I was wondering what you think of this or if you have noticed this before that the leaflet thing that comes with gan cubes says no lube will damage your cube. On one hand I think that can’t be true on the other hand I think gan would know what they are talking about. Are they just trying to sell their lube? I’ve been living dangerously with no lube in the 11m pro for over a year and so far everything is fine.
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
Lubrication is absolutely not needed. I've only seen Gan post that in the past few years and that was also when they started selling their own lubrication. Lubrication is just to adjust speed and feeing of the cube. It's a plastic toy, not a car engine.

When 2x2 is about speed and 3x3 is about efficiency and 4x4 is about lookahead
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. They are all three about limiting pauses. Unless you know EG for 2x2, learning CLL will way lower move count and how many "looks" you need. Having a set pattern on 4x4 can help with flow and looking ahead. I wouldn't say one uses something more than another.

I guess u missed predicting 1st pair, xcross and look ahead. Ps( really opened my eyes. Good video).
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
I did not. Predicting pairs is just being able to plan more pieces. I mention don't start u til you can plan the entire cross. If you can plan the whole cross, do what I mention with 6 pieces instead of four. Ive mentioned in multiple videos that "look ahead" is one of the greatest misconceptions in Cubing and it's not some thing someone needs to "learn" to do. It happens to just be something that builds up as you understand the puzzle more clearly. Just like learning an instrument or even playing a video game. Every single Cuber is already looking ahead.

My problem is I often can't find the matching piece in F2L. Lately, it's if it's right next to it, but rotated, I tend to not be able to recognize it at all. You'd think that would be easy. I'm finally sub 50s average ao12, 50 & 100, but getting there was a slog. It's getting way more difficult to get faster. But I still have a few areas to improve. I just finished learning all of PLL. I also started learning some more OLL, but still mostly do 2-look. My pll turning rate is so slow. 1.75 tps on a good day. And yes, I'm doing finger tricks and I only rotate the cube on 2 algs. Is practicing pll to get better turn rate a thing to do?
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
As far as F2L, that is where time comes in. After another 10,000 solves your recognition will certainly get faster. As long as you are accurate your PLL and OLL are fine. a 1.75TPS but accurate is better than trying to turn 10TPS and locking up. The speed will increase with repetition.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to learn easier ways to pair pieces when taking them out of slots so they pair straight away.Because when you take pieces out you still have to pair them or is it actually faster to do what you doing.I could be misinformed but it seems like your pairing could be more efficient(I might be wrong as you are faster than me so please reply and give your thoughts,I don't want to waste time learning better pairing if it's not needed) Also thanks for the video
@SpeedCubeReview2 жыл бұрын
I'm confused on what way you are referring to? Usually algs are less efficient, and the issue with them too is you need to Learn many alternatives depending on the pair being on the right/left/front/back slots There are some odd cases that algs can help, like R2 U2 F R2 F' U2 R' U R' however there are only a few I would recommend.
