I'm convinced every devil fruit makes their user's imagination real centered around their respective concept. Robin's concept is sprouting part of herself. What that "herself" is, depends entierly on how she sees herself. Very similar to Chopper, her accepting being the Demon Child she has always been called, lets her sprout demon Robin parts

Yeah, it really feels like it's building up to that, personally i feel like some of the recent DF abilities either don't make sense or are at least a bit of a stretch considering what the concept of the fruit is (Sasaki being able to fly by rotating his frill, or Bonney's distorted futures). But there's probably more examples in the past that i just didn't question until now, like Kaku being able to retract his giraffe neck or Perona's ghosts also working as explosives (or even the effect of making people depressed in my opinion). This would be an interesting twist, and a way to make DFs more important again after how hard the series has been focusing on haki.

My head cannon is that Robin cleverly used her (probably) extensive knowledge of anatomy to create the devil out of her body parts. Use deeper layers of skin or muscle to make the red skin. Use some bone material to make horns. Bones AND skin to make wings.

That’s what I always thought :) if she could do any body part, it stands to reason she could use bone, or nails or even teeth to easily replicate horns, limbs etc to make wings just with a devilish twist. You don’t even need that much anatomical knowledge to make horns to be fair. And she’s done wings before. The colour I always just saw as an artistic choice, devil fruits are only li,tied by imagination after all.

Also it fits because Toei, since the Wano style change, tries their darndest to turn One Piece into Dragon Ball...and a part of the community pays way too much attention to essentially filler when the answer is really that simple "No, Anime Robin has Kaio Ken...because Toei wanted to". No seriously, the anime VFX are all over the place and are about as consistent as the vastly inflated anime powerscaling...the auras are the same as Zoro cutting up the surrounding landscapes into Toei Cubesᵀᴹ with every other attack (until it magically repairs itself for the next shot), or flower petals appearing in every dramatic scene, or literal beam clashes...it's just Toei animators having a bad case of Super ADHD and they want you to have it too

Another possibility is that Demonio is not an actual form, but more of an aura, like when Zoro uses Ashura. Like she just gives into the anger and frustration she's built up over a very hard life and it makes her opponent see a demon where there's actually just a Gigante with wings.

This video honestly made me think about what Vegapunk said about DFs, how they are dreams incarnate. We also know that specifically Zoans have a will of their own, but maybe all DFs have a will of their own? So what if fruits are still actively taking their users dreams/desires/thoughts into consideration? This allowed Robins desire to become a Demon to take real form just like fruits off spawn, and added the demon ability to her fruit. Kind of how One for All works in MHA. Would add an extra layer of inherited will to each DF, and maybe explain why some fruits like Violas and Laws have so many different abilities. Doing this would be very difficult IMO on par or even harder than awakening, also would need fair amount of will power/creativity (Quite the feat for Robin and maybe would be a haki bloom resulting from the battle). Fair Fetched IK but everything in OP is and I think it's kind of a fun off the top of my head idea.

I do agree on it being an awakening, because robin has met some requirements that we have noticed with other characters: - She ate the fruit at an early age, and so had plenty of time to grow her abilities. Which also happened with other characters like luffy, law, and even doflamingo and katakuri, the only character we know that got their awakening really quick is kaku I believe (dude got it in less than 3 years). - She developed unorthodox techniques that expand on the basic set of abilities of the fruit. Which is a very important step from what we understand with everything in one piece, the will to go behold and push past limitations is what fills other abilities like haki, and to a lesser extent rokushiki, with the unique techniques some of the CP9 members developed. So as you mentioned, you have to gather multiple pieces of a metaphorical puzzle to get an awakening, exploring different ways to use your powers and such.

Robin's powers can natively do any organic form as long as she learns to be accurate enough to sprout on a cellular level rather than whole limbs. She can do Demonio by just building a whole body out of her red blood cells or whatever.

Robin's ability evolution is mind-blowing. I love the theory that it's an Awakening, showcasing how far she's come since her "devil child" days. The comparison to Luffy's gear transformations is spot-on too. Whether it's Haki, Awakening, or something else, Robin's demon form is a testament to her growth and creativity. I think Robins fruit the Hana Hana no mi (Flower Flower Fruit) is similar to Bonneys in a way that she could bloom into anything she wants. Robins fruit is very versatile but imagine her with Haki. Robin knew how Haki worked but never demonstrated it. I still hope she gets it as she proved she can take down Haki users so with it would make her a solidified threat. I feel like Demonio was actually Robin as she stated she can become one if she wanted to protect her friends which implies that she could become other things as well. Edit: Which is why Oda left it unexplained as it could be explored further.

I *personally* like to see it as a confirmation of her having Haki without being directly told out loud by anyone -- it *does* make a hell of a lot of sense between how much knowledge and experience she has, how much she's been pushing herself especially with growing willpower since the end of Enies Lobby and how ridiculous it is that every member of the crew doesn't have some form of it by now, even if it's just low-level forms born from sheer experience and grit. MAYBE you could explain someone like Franky could get by because his tech or metal body somehow bypasses haki defenses in his opponents or something, but for characters like Robin, Haki should definitely exist by now.

Hana hana no mi gives its user the power to produce any part of their body on any surface, this is not only limited to "Limbs", but literally any part, ears, eyes, organs, bones and blood, with this power Nico Robin only gave Demon Form the desired form to win the psychological war, her power is incredible and she can do anything if he sets his mind to it and without necessarily having awakened.

Robin learning armament haki would be so OP!! Franky should be able to incorporate sea prism stone into his attacks, Sanji and Usopp really needs some more haki… in particular observation for usopp. Nami is nami she’s fine and she’s got Zeus and Sanji as shields lmao, Chopper also needs a power boost possibly armament haki at minimum or stronger devil fruit forms. Jimbie is perfectly fine, close second strongest as is; Brook needs some armament haki for his blade and a little more devil fruit development.

I think the Hana Hana no Mi is strongly related with the lotto flower and the 4 states of Nirvana or the 8 hells of Buddhism. My thoughts on this are based on the fruit's appearance as well as Robin's journey, which can be linked on several concepts related to awakening a Nirvana-like state or embracing the hell from within.

I got 2 things... 1. Cosplayers...this Demonio Robin needs to be at the top of your list! 2. This breakdown is a really good job. The way a real demon defeated 4 Yokai, however you spell that has lots of implications. Of course, here at Egghead, were fighting Yokai, so maybe she'll figure out how to harm them? Also she's the only survivor of Ohara, (and Saul) but the most important one and the one who will come back around to smoke all of those W.G. losers. Not only that but she's also going to be a bit of a V.P. (maybe) in the sense that she releases the real history when they get to Laughtale. I think the Onepiece will prob work like a rallying cry and Robin will be the next installment after Clover and V.P. So, anyways, Oda's cooking as usual and this stuff is really good. :)

I recently saw the episode where Dr V. explained how the devil fruits were created. He explained that the fruits were created by a person imagining something. Much like a mangaka/writer creating a work. And as a beginner, you take on the way the artist creates his work. And an awakening is when the artist brings his idiosyncrasies into the work. Which would mean that you have to know yourself to fully "awaken". Which in Robin's case means that she brought her own imagination into an existing story (as did Luffy). So yes. I would say it is at least a stage of awakening.

So far all paramecia awakenings are about projecting your ability to the outside world (turn into strings or mochi, or transfering a room or magnitic pole to a thing, like a sword or a wall). So this wouldn't fit the awakening theme, in my opinion.

Demonio fleur is the "fuck it, we ball it" answer to the fact that she takes damage when the clone takes it. Bigger, more badass and way more closer to the enemy than any other form or attack

A few thoughts from me: - Taking on a stage persona is something that Wrestler and Luchadore will often do. "The Red Demon" or "Demonio Fleur" do sound like stage names. - Her moves tend to be more of the wrestling variety. Like, have we ever seen her just _punch_ or _stab_ someone? Slapping or stomping groups seems to be about the most direct attack, but those attacks are also not really lethal in this world. She Grapples and Wrestles her foes. - color changes do seem fitting for a Flower themed fruit. Which is what hte Hana-Hana no mi is. - Robin has very rarely used her powers to spawn limbs _on_ her body. It is always on surfaces. The wings are one of the rare example. It is possible she just used it like that here. Making a limb-based Mecha suit. - Remote sprouting has a disadvantage: She needs to see the surface she is sprouting on and the target. This can be an issue in a cluttered or smokey battlefield. One advantage of the Limb-Mech is that she can see from inside it. - It would be a interesting inversion of a awakening. Dofi, Katakuri and Luffi learned to transform their bodies first. Affecting the world around them second. She learned to sprout externally first, transforming her body second. - The lack of Haki is partiulclarly unfortunate for her. Unlike the Awakened Paramecia cases, she can be fully attacked through her remote limbs and clones. Any "once touch kill" fruit will work on any body part. But I somehow only expert her to get Armamanet Haki. Given again she only wrestles, never punches.

I like to think her awakening took her ability “sprout your body parts anywhere” and changed it to “sprout your body as you see yourself anywhere” and she sees herself as a demon that protects her friends. So not infinite customization, just displaying her true self.

ive always thought it was awakening. but because her ability already lets her sprout normal body parts from any surface, her awakening allows her to create non-standard body parts. like actual horns and leathery wings, and whatever replaced the skin to make it red and presumably much stronger than normal skin. and not just sprouting them, but changing her base body, since we don't actually see a small robin body during the demonio section. glad to see you agree completely.

Robin's ability allows her to bloom limbs all over the place, but she has also bloomed them on herself previously (multiple arms etc). So, it very well could have been that Robin made her self a limb mech and piloted a Demon-themed flesh Gundam to fight Black Maria. Whatever the case, I really hope Oda gives us an answer on this because I doubt it's the last time we see this form, and he's typically not one to just make stuff up like this without prior consideration (or, at least, a well thought out retcon)

My personal head cannon is that it is in fact an awakening, because both in manga and anime she showed the signs of fatigue after using an awakening that's not fully mastered. But also as you mentioned, its the ability to sprout and modify the original body. BUT i would take the manga color over the anime, hinting that robin learned how to use Haki OR since it's directly connected to her will, her will was so powerful after this form change, that maybe unconsciously she mixed haki into her own form explaining the black color in the manga.

I've always been a fan of the theory that devil fruit awakenings are unique to each individual that awakens the fruit where it really is down to the ingenuity and users understanding of the fruit for them to awaken the fruit in their own way and then use that power accordingly because not only does it give us some cooler ideas for like deepening the lore on what Awakening the devil fruit does for the user but then if we have any flashbacks we can see hypotheticals on how like previous users of fruits that we know now might have used them differently like how we saw in wano with the barrier fruit

Not really. Earlier in the story we only ever had one example. Some stuff has been retconned, but not much. Forgotten power dynamics often come up without explanation. Strength training pays off exponentially. Not all devil fruit users use the fruits to their maximum potential. Passion is a literal power mechanism imbued in any attack, not to be confused with Haki, which is Willpower. Luffy's fruit is not a paramecia, so it doesn't help define fruits like Magellan's from impel down. It's a mythic zoan, which falls more in line with marco's mythic zoan which enables Marco to dematerialize like a logia user. Mythic zoan fruits are not limited by the regular zoan fruit definition. I would say Robin's fruit is a mythic zoan, being inspired by demons.

Wait... what you said about the psychological aspect. That's the key to harm the elders. They seem invincible because their haki is backed up by 800 years of delusion/psychosis. But they will be much more vulnerable after Vegapunk is done with his speach
