I can agree with most of this but you forgot to complain about Chadly Chadly ruins the side content There is no exploration There is no discovery There is no imagination There is just an obnoxiously voiced task master that constantly interrupts, breaks emersion, and talks to you as if you are not only 6 years old, but have never played a video game before
@thewallie3
@thewallie3 Ай бұрын
Completely agree. Hate Chadley. He could have been left in if they didnt make you stop what you were doing. Especially after there was just a short cutscene, and here he comes to say, "Good job. Go over here now."
@AstonishingRed

He kinda ruins the experience for me. I hate that he’s tied to so many aspects of the game. I wanna organically find powerful summon materia on my own. I want to find dangerous enemies out in the world on my own. Who decided that this one character should be the gatekeeper of everything in the world? Worst thing to come out of the remake, second only to the destruction of Sephiroth’s characterization.
@ElienKerdan

No one over the age of six years old would spell immersion as "emersion". So it sounds as though that mechanic was made with you in mind. I do kind of agree with you though. Mostly.

Disagree. While Chadley is clearly present a lot...he didn't bother me at all. Also there is exploration, there is discovery. We get backstory on history of things prior to Shinra essentially taking over/dominating a large part of the world. So much lore on the Junon Republic prior to Shinra's rise, and little details about life around the world as it is. Man, I get why Chadley could annoy people, but it just feels so much like people want to hate someone with that voice that it becomes more about the meme of disliking him than it actually being some impediment to the game itself.

@@Facemelter4000 folio system sucks imo, even the remake system was better. And for synergy, atleast I used it a couple times during hardmode. Though it takes some time, it does damage, gives a perk, and doesn’t use ATB, which the 3 Bar ATB can really let you go wild with spells. Compare that to summons which u gotta wait for, and then use 1-2 ATB for, and then use more ATB to use the summons ability, it usually is a net negative imo compared to casting a spell. I didn’t use a summon a single time during my hard mode play through.

I agreed with a lot. Hated the towers. Also didn't like the formulaic feel when getting to new zones. Each time we knew that we'd have to go looking for tower, the summon shrines, and all the other stuff. It made exploration feel uninspired. I already knew what I'd get before I even started. I also hated the forced nature of the minigames, that we were forced to play each one at least once.. Imo mini-games should (nearly) always 100% optional. It should be bonuses that we can both stumble upon, or completely miss. I'm at chapter 11 now, I think. Not sure, because I haven't played it for a while. I just crossed the waters over to the Goniganigaga region, or whatever it's called. And I've heard it's an annoying part of the game. And I was already low on motivation to keep playing. It used to be that I played through FF games in a weekend because I was THAT absorbed into the games. But that stopped with FFXIII-3 Lightning Returns. That's when they started to get more "meh", imo .
@PerfectGameQuest
@PerfectGameQuest Ай бұрын
I think mini-games could do with being 100% optional, as long as they aren't inconvenient to locate. Like the mini games in Costa del Sol didn't need to be required, but I think it would be cool if they were still mentioned in a cutscene to pique interest for those who partake. I've had a similar experience with FF. FFXIII felt meh which was a bummer because I was super hype about it, but I feel like since then in general I've been enjoying the direction square is taking the franchise. I've enjoyed Rebirth but I will admit there were moments when I felt like I had to push myself along, especially later in the game.

I loved those life spring things. Sure it was simple, but the song that played while you’re there… chefs kiss there! But then again I love the entire soundtrack… To be fair though the caches are deterrent from exploring haha like I do that stuff anyway but it was helpful that once I completed the story the caches just appeared on the map so I could just go there and get it haha. I dunno people seem to make it out to be like you’re just completing chores but in game… I guess it doesn’t bother me as I didn’t think of that at all… I’m so close to platinum and the game really makes you earn it! But it’s been exciting and fun as well as frustrating haha!

I partially think one of the issues, is the trophy hunting mentality that gamers currently have. All the extra completionist things people do would feel a lot less like a requirement if there was no such thing as a platinum. I still think minigames are not implemented very well though.
@Awdreejahslin
@Awdreejahslin Ай бұрын
@@daesong1378 I hear ya the less like a requirement thing… in those older FF’s people would complete side quests because they loved playing the game not because they had to for a trophy… still no one is telling us we have to get the platinum either… sure its there but it isn’t really required. As for the mini games… I can admit some felt clunky… like the starfighter game… it didn’t seem as fluid as playing Star fox… or an Ace combat game the targeting really bothered me after a while… but that could said about some of normal mechanics… I thought climbing those walls was clunky, compared to a tomb raider or a uncharted game where climbing was a key part of the game… as for the frog game, I cannot say I struggled with it, but I could say that camera was a little too close for the first challenge with the falling platforms.. if it further out to allow for better planning or timing for those jumps it would’ve been easier. The 3D brawler was also a little unforgiving too that without having to pause repeatedly, it was hard to decipher what type attack was coming… hell even with pausing I still at times got it wrong as the animation looks so similar on some of them… beyond those though I didn’t think the mini games were that bad… make the shooting range one but that was more of a button thing to me… after playing many resident evil remakes… it felt a clunky to do the pirate ship shooting game… but I suck at shooters sssooo it’s possible it’s all on me on that one haha!

No one is paying me to complete these games. I am doing it because I loved the game. Sometimes it’s an obsession and I admit that haha but that’s my problem not anyone else’s… except maybe my spouses who may want to play a different game or watch something on tv instead of me playing the same game haha… almost done with rebirth! 6 chapters to go on hardmode 😊🥰

As someone who enjoyed the game so much that I even started a 2nd playthrough (not even NG+. just fresh playthrough) this was a pretty good review. I enjoyed pretty much all of the world intel but it did get repetitive after some point. the mako springs and towers are easily the worst of the bunch. and i wish the summons weren't just VR battle again but actual entities we can find in the world and battle. one thing I'm doing on my 2nd playthrough is just ignoring the towers and seeing if I can everything without them and only activating them once i feel like i found everything. i started doing this on my 1st playthrough once i got to corel region and it made things feel more natural. Tried it in the grasslands on my 2nd playthrough and yeah it mostly works out well if you have enough curiosity to look around but i feel like it was the hardest in that region. Agree with almost everything you said and really appreciated your balanced review. I did really love the the lifesprings though. Getting that music and a quick little break from the area I was in felt great every time! My only complaint with lifesprings is that I thought maybe they should also have restored some HP or MP to give you some reason to return. I really didn’t mind the folio system, but I also didn’t find it particularly engaging or allowing really great customization. I wouldn’t mind if that aspect was removed from future games. The materia and weapon skills are by far the most fun part of the “progression” in the game, and I wouldn’t mind losing the folio system and leaning even further into materia and weapons skills for character development. Sometimes I felt hampered by there only being 1-2 of certain materia in the game and by the lack of any triple-slot linked equipment. So it would be cool if progression allowed a limited amount of characters being able to learn or absorb certain materia skills without having them equipped. OR lean hard into the synnergy/party aspect and allow character development to let you use or interact with materia another party member has equipped. Could take inspo from Xenoblade Chronicles party skill sharing.

It could have shortened that animation a bunch by just not having him there because you already know he's just going to tell you that there's new Intel

Instead of crossing off a list of specific things to do that the game tells me, I'm actually just going on my own terms and having fun while doing it. I love the combat in this game a lot more than remake especially, remake was a stepping stone and preps you for rebirth, rebirth is taking all the knowledge from remake and intermission, along with rebirths new machianics which isn't that much and executing. Also my favorite part about rebirths combat over remakes is every character has a built in deadly dodge, and that makes combat more bareable, i couldn't imagine what the combat would be like if the characters didn't deadly dodge or there was not materia for it, i don't say much about a specific machanic especially on combat, but deadly dodge was by far worth me mentioning
@trollingisasport
@trollingisasport Ай бұрын
Nailed it. Best video on this I've seen. Love well-balanced critical analysis. 1. This is less clunkiness than I expected from Remake but it's still CLUNKY af. You nailed it about fluidity. 2. Also, I had the exact same thoughts about exploration and points of interest. The most heartbreaking thing to me was when I came out of the first city and I saw this whole open world in front of me and went out to explore it, so much of the content was gated. And then when you can finally explore more freely you have to deal with Mai and Chadley and deal with the other issues you mentioned. BG3 to me is the gold standard. You had craft each part of the map with a goal in mind of how the player is going to interact with it and you build it to synergize with the activities, quests etc. Things like Mog House only needed to be in one region. But they clearly just copied and pasted it as filler. The towers could have been anything but towers and fulfilled a similar purpose. Hell, they could have just had the springs do that. It also took away from the environmental elements that helped guide you to points of interest as well. All in all it's like they had a whole bunch of decent ideas and mushed them together. 3. Agree about the animations. Again not as bad as I thought they would be, but there were many points where the animation impeded the flow. I especially didn't appreciate the parts using the shoulder buttons. Also hated the interactive cutscenes like you said. They needed better writing as you said. It's made especially worse in this game as the character's voices often disappeared as they walk away so I missed a lot of random dialog. At the end of the day, all the controls are a bit gimmicky, some more offensive than others. 4. I found the combat unoffensive. I liked it a lot for the most part. However, the free magic made me barely touch the regular magic and I really like the menus like old school FF, but they need to have sub categories by function or let the player customize the menus. 5. I will never be a fan of sphere grids. I HATE THEM. I want setting up/upgrading to be quick and to be able to save layouts easily. The progression stuff in this felt so clunky. For the weapons, I felt like they should just have unique abilities tied to the weapons so that you can change them out when they are more suited. Synergy could have had it's own upgrading system. 5. The materia system felt bloated too me. There's way too many now, I don't like all the stat boosting materia when there's accessories and spells for that. Focusing on magic, summons, and affect other materia is the mainstay of the system. I also HATED having to swap assess all the time. They really should just give Cloud a scouter and be done with it. It just didn't pull me in like the OG where I felt like maximizing everything. It was barely needed for the magic reasons I mentioned before. I never felt I needed magnify. The OG required more from you in general when it came to materia I feel. (And no I don't include hard mode or whatever self-imposed challenge you put on yourself to prove that you are special somehow in one area of your life). I thought you hit a lot of great points, though I wish you would've touched on the issues of the story and the music though. I liked the overall story as it had a lot better plot action and less fluff than last time, but the added stuff that was trying to be deep with the whispers and all that did sour the experience. And while I like the soundtrack a lot as a whole, I don't feel that in a lot of cases it actually enhanced what was going on on screen. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but for this game, I think Hamauzu's stuff works far better with the game's tone and rhythm. The OG music was specifically made for a game where each area has it's own unique theme and it was a 3D game with prerendered backgrounds with turn based battles without voices. All of these things worked in conjunction. In this game they fill the game with leitmotifs that make the themes feel cheap and disposable (though they did Cosmo Canyon right I feel). Anyway great analysis. You got yourself a new subscriber!

I appreciate the well thought out response. For the the story and music, I probably won't talk about that stuff in these videos because I'm just talking about the mechanics, but I'll definitely talk about it in the comments lol. I agree 100% about the story having less fluff than remake. The music I have complicated feelings on. I really like the OST but I thought that sometimes is was pretty badly mixed. Sometimes, and unnecessarily it was WAY too loud. Aside from that I felt like it was pretty nostalgic and well done.

Finally someone who is giving contructive critisism. I've seen so many who either love the game or hate the game. Those who love the game don't want to hear anyone criticising it and those who hate the game just bash it completely. Obviously I have seen a few others giving it costructive critisism, but sadly most fall into the 2 categories of either loving or hating the game. Giving contructive critisism gives the devs a much better idea of what people love and what they don't like about the game. This way they know what we want more of and what we want less of and can work from that perspective for the next part. Maybe not the next part since I do believe they already have a lot plan out for that one already, but maybe for the next FF game at least. The towers and lifesprings I didn't mind. I am one of the few who actually like Chadley, I enjoy is dry humor. I aslo didn't think much about how long it takes to get into the Buggy before I saw others mention it. My gaming background is mainly RPGs. I like games with a good story both turn based and action combat. I also do play a lot of simulator games like the Sims and I guess that's why repeated stuff like this don't even bother me. I see your point though and I would also have enjoyed finding all of this on my own without Chadley too. When it comes to mini games it seems like this is a hit or miss with many people. I personally love the mini games, there was some I truly enjoyed a lot like Queen's Blood, Fort Condor, Gears and Gambits (yes I did actually enjoy it), Chocobo racing and Chokobo gliding (this could've have been better with some tweeking of the controls I think). Some of the other mini games are OK and there was a few I didn't care for at all and those I skipped. I will say that I do agree that there shouldn't be mini games tied to the main quest, or at least make them skippable. I don't think the mini games should be part of the trophy to platinum the game either. I do not agree with those who say there shouldn't be any mini games, or want to remove the ones they don't like. We all like different mini games so having a variety to chose from is good, and if they didn't tie them to main story and platinum then the mini games would just be a fun side side content for those of us who enjoy them. The story and the combat is the best this game has to offer for me. The combat is made to perfection for me. Like you say there's so much variety with how you decide to build each charater. I also enjyed the folio system. I did reset it a couple of times during game play to fit my playstyle and the characters I used better. I did of course use the synery abilities, they give some great damage to staggered enemies. The synergy skills I used all the time, once I got the hang of how to use them best with the characters I use they are truly amazing.

Thanks for your perspective. It would be a dream if someone at square watched my video, read through some comments, and got some more perspective. I think that discussing whether you hate or love a game can be fun, but I think it ends up being divisive and reductive. the progression system was alright, the main thing i was excited for was the weapon level ups, but at some point it stagnated. i still dont like the manuscript system. if i complete every sidequest and minigame to its max i shouldnt have to do those again on hard mode to get everything maxed out. locking some manuscripts behind completing hard mode chapters is fine. the folios was annoying because when you leveled up it doesnt highlight what you can now get but what you can get next level up. the problem is that theres a noticeable gap between levels so you hover over something cool and realise you cant unlock it just yet but i guess it something to look foward to

1. I agree, they have story dungeons which you don't revisit after completing. In my opinion they should have designed these dungeons with paths you can only reach after unlocking certain characters skills (like Red XIII's wall climbing, or the grappling gun for Tifa (which you return automatically). For example the Mythril Mines, they could have easily put materia like Stone and Petrify and even Titan as a secret boss there. Maybe they could incorporate a time mechanic in the open zones so at night you can encounter stronger enemies like in FFXV. 2. I think the life springs should have been locked until you've completed the side quest with Red XIII and Bugenhagen in Cosmo Canyon. Instead of resources you can find here higher level materia or fight variants (maybe a combination of both) depending on it being a healthy lifespring or not. In my opinion replace the World Intel-battles with hunts with different ranks (from C to S) and couple it with hunter levels which unlock resources needed in crafting recipes for certain armor/accessories. The Mog-house mini-game is pointless, you have to wonder if she is fit to be a parent because the little ones keep escaping. Since they want to keep the Moogle-shop a usage for the medals should be to buy certain equipment needed in sidequests (maybe ideally located at the Gold Saucer). The amount of mini-games are enormous, the time you've reached the Gold Saucer you're already fed up with it. A lot of the VR-challenges should have been placed in the Battle Arena (not the Sephiroth and Zack challenge). 3. The immersion is there to hide loading screens so I guess we're stuck with it. 4. I think the skill list should be reduced, at the end you easily have 10+ skills to choose from. Get higher level skills from weapons or folio (like Braver Lv2, or High Braver for example). The navigation in the skill list is poorly done, I mean if you equip a command materia it should be in a separate menu item during battle (same goes for the enemy skills). 5. I agree, you have a store for folios and manuscripts which don't sell manuscripts (worst business model ever). If SP stands for Skill Points, maybe you should reward players for using skills during battles, level ups should not award SP in my opinion. 6. Why make CCR part of the compilation if you're not going to use Materia Fusion in Rebirth for example to make the combination materia, they could have used Chadley for this. Enemy skills should be learned from enemies in my opinion, the Ward materia should be repurposed like they did with Synergy (rename it to Status, on armor it gives you resistance and on weapon it adds effects). The Morph-materia I haven't used once I guess, don't see the purpose, Steal/Mug only for the Tonberry-sidequest from Johnny and Reno in Temple of the Ancients. I kinda miss that materia can be born again like in OG, wonder if they make it possible like in OG to do the same with the Huge Materia for receiving Master Materia.

Great video sir. A few thoughts of varying quality. 1. The slow walking segments need to be increased in pace and reduced in number. 2. Cut the towers, keep the springs if you must. 3. If they keep the Mako Springs as a form of revealing points of interest on the map...they should at least provide some variety of button presses... and perhaps a series of still frames with narration that appear to explain the lore of the area (like they did for the pirate's treasure quest). 4. Don't keep Chocobos behind lame minigames...allow them to be used for free to better encourage questing tourism. 5. Chadley needs to be pacified. 6. Let me fight a summon in the wild. Maybe it could be some guy (Beck of Beck's Badasses) who has a summon materia equipped and used it. Once I beat him/her/relevant pronoun and the summon itself I get to keep the orb as a spoil of war. 7. If you have to turn a wheel, or crawl, or do anything with the trigger buttons that's plodding and ponderous because it's giving narrative weight or hiding a loading screen...PLEASE do something cinematically, like a slow zoom in or have flash or a spark go off in the distance that portends immanent danger... anything that keeps my interests during the monotony. Cross cut to Yuffie yawning or Barrett looking concerned, something simple to allow for appropriate background loading. 8. To avoid the "check-listy" problem, allow the game to have two settings, akin to difficulty levels. One could be called EXPLORATION MODE, and the other GUIDED MODE. GUIDED would employ more Chadley, I suppose. EXPLORATION would allow you to find things freely, minus MSQ and occasional NPC's giving you a general idea of where to look.

Such a good video. I completely agree. I love my menus but there was an awful lot of menuing to the point where I kinda just brute forced some battles because I just could not be bothered to swap stuff out.(and I liked the sphere grid growing up so that says something). I actually forgot about the folio for a few chapters. The battle system is great and the later stages rrally force you to learn how to use synergy stuff properly which I appreciate. I despised costa del sol and golden saucer. I had to take a break from the game because the number of minigames was borderline insulting to the players time who may just want to get on with the story. Blocking off really good weapons and materia too behind minigames was a poor move too. Less is more. And moghouse can kindly go away, never to be seen again.

I liked the side content at first, but in Corel I started to get bored of it... too many things and too much time wasting. I liked the combat very much, but it was a bit too chaotic. Regarding Materia, I think it would be wise to add several presets that you can edit in order to switch between them faster, because changing materia-strategy can be a bit boring due to the time you have to spend tinkering every character... They can implement it to the 3rd part. Materia is great. However, I didn't like the summons.

I hate manually leveling up characters. This folio thing and the sphere grid were both very annoying for me. Especially in this game. Like you said, there are already so many ways to make a character feel unique and giving me control of how they grow already. The materia system in the original was damn near perfect (only downside was how long it took to master some of the materia… looking at you KotR) so it’s hard to have this one be better. I do like how they make it to where you can have only one summon at a time and how you get to summon is well done too. The unique ways of leveling up the summons were appreciated too. As for the towers, life springs and whatever, I agree that they were largely unnecessary, though with how hard it was to move around, I really liked that they gave us those fast travel points.

As a fan of the original since 97 I have really mixed feelings. I generally liked the story, except for the overly confusing ending and some bits I felt should have been more extended, like Barrets story in Corel. The animation and voice acting was fantastic througout. But the open world? It really drove me crazy. Generally I try to enjoy all the contents a game has to offer, but too much of it was copy & paste or really badly written. I mean objectives were the same in every zone. (Altars biggest distinction marks were colors...) Having to deal with Beck and his gang 5-6 times, that silly Fort Condor quest and basically every Queens Blood player being a psychopath with a too big of an ego or out right having their Chocobo playing for them... it was just too much for me. I felt like watch japanese television, know for having a very special kind of humor. Would have appreciated a bit more mature content honestly. On the other hand, I enjoyed quests like clearing the area around the fitness studio, because Cloud and Tifa shared some old stories between fights. The crafting system also was pointless, as everything you could craft was worse then what you already found. Additionally, it was a really bad design choice to place so many lootable crafting materials into the world, that I ended up moving like a flipper ball through the world, always collecting all the stuff. Overall, I hope for two major things they fix for part 3. Switch to Unreal Engine 5 or any other game engine that gets rid of the excessive lighting problem at times. And secondly, half of the open worlds size, but crank up the quality of the side quests by a lot. Despite having quite much to criticize, I still enjoyed it and am looking forward to part 3. Exploration felt CLUNKY, for sure. Since FF7 is all about the characters, I'm surprised they didn't riff off each other more on the overworld. Having Barret toss Tifa up ledges, who then hops around to let loose some grapple points for Yuffia is a no-brainer sort of gameplay loop. Maybe that would excuse the rigid, snap-to movement, maybe.

Good review. I generally dislike the progression system. It’s not even complicated. It’s more like it barely even matters outside of material. I mean, can you really even make a mistake? You can pretty much just randomly put anything and it won’t even matter. The biggest impact is your materia and equipment. Besides getting the weapons kill, the weapon you choose to use is largely inconsequential. They have a tab called “upgrade weapon” that does absolutely nothing, as if it was supposed to be part of the system but was never implemented but then was never removed either. I partially suspect that they did not want you to feel like you “progressed” too much because there is still another part. Imagine doing all the progress and having to really grind out until you are OP, and then having to start all over again. It’s a bit awkward. I hope since the next game is the final one, they give us a real actual progression system. I dislike the limits being locked behind synergies. Imo it should be more free use and you should use the one that works best for the situation. All the LB should have been tied to Folio Imo. The combat is great but you can’t really appreciate it until you get to Hard mode, you can pretty much no brain your way through most of normal mode. But FF7 OG combat was no brain mostly as well.

I think the whole folio system is absurd. Some of the stat gains are negligible and others are just much better then the rest. No one I know uses MP+3 but everyone uses Opening ATB. I've never been too big of a fan of materia, even in the original 1997 game. It just makes all the characters alike and requires you to go into the menu too often. I like FFs where all the characters feel distinct with abilities and spells, like in 4 and 9. And I disagree that materia is special in how it connects with the lore. Just about every FF's magic system connects with the lore, e.g. junctions, Espers, FF 4's level based spell/ability learning

You found a thing you need to do!" put price scanner away...walk up to thing...pull out price scanner and hold/push button(s) at a thing...stop...wait...put price scanner away...pull out price scanner..."CLOUD!! Now that you did a thing I was able to find more things you can push buttons at!"...wait...put price scanner away...wait...carry on. Second most annoying thing is go somewhere anyone needs to talk to you...slooooooooow dooooown like you're walking through wet concrete while they talk. See also: "CLOUD!!" See also: Mid-battle unskippable animatics Missed opportunity: Being able to fly the Bronco but not doing anything with it. Most tedious area: Gongaga. This area is a disjointed mess. Tedium concentrate. Annoying loud theme song.

I disagree on the mini games to a point. They are fun to do like once but there's so many that lock the story. It's absolutely ridiculous and that's where I'm like. Okay, the mini games are kind of annoying. I play through the main story. Want to get to the next chapter? No, you have to complete a mini game. All the mini games should be optional especially Queens blood. I don't know if it's just cuz I didn't understand it or what but I hate that mini game specifically it brought my 10 out of 10 experience to an 8 out of 10 just because of how many mini games lock the story

What I wondered about the climbing mechanics was why couldn’t they make climbing and what more like Assassins Creed?

Everything is a tradeoff, in the end it comes down to time. Did we want to wait another 6-8 months while devs built, tested and animated an immersive climbing and movement system?
@tracysweatt5401
@tracysweatt5401 Ай бұрын
@@jeremyleon9744 oh definitely get that, but the basic mechanics of free climbing like characters do in Assassin’s Creed has already been done. I would have expected that they could have at least incorporated that sort of climbing style into at least some of the world environments without too much difficulty. I mean I fully admit that I don’t know just how difficult it might have been to achieve this, but I would have thought that if a game like AC can do it, the Remake and Rebirth Devs could have done so as well…. 🤷🏻‍♀️
@jeremyleon9744
@jeremyleon9744 Ай бұрын
@@tracysweatt5401 yeah I agree it would be cool. Although it may not be exactly complicated, it can't be copy pasted either because each game has unique physics engine. Plus you have to animate all characters, re work terrain assets, add lots of boundaries then test it all in what is a large amount of world. Not difficult, just time consuming and prone to bugs which then require fixes, etc. Might be worth if it was truly open world but with the zone format where there's not much to discover anyway, they probably made the safe choice

Awesome video. Agreed with most of it except the "loving the side content"... Sidequests, Quen's blood and Phenomenons (for the Genji plot) are great AND adf a Lot to the narrative and characters, but hated most of the minigames (there's just too many). Towrers and Caches are the worst... Almost wanted to stop playing when I saw the first tower...

I figured side content would be contentious. I've always been a sucker for side content, but I know that is not everyone. Thanks for the comment!

Queen's Blood is the best side quest card game ever. At least as far as FF. They've finally perfected it. Also...playing the piano....the worst mini game ever. Great video.

I don’t think perfected is all that relevant here. QB is a fairly random collection of mechanics that did come out fairly consistent, but it’s not really an evolution on what came previously. Triple triad for example is honestly an Extremely simple game that only gets credit due to Same and Plus mechanics. While TM is a good game destroyed only by the fact it included a random aspect that wasn’t needed. Most of the “refinement” of these two games would be in simplifying to perfection. While QB went in the opposite direction, let’s just throw together everything we can think of and not care about balance. I don’t even think the AI is that good since you can play long enough that the AI will Shiva itself turn 1.

Loved QB, searched it out immediately as I entered new zones, but I'm a sucker for card games. Playing the piano, while super frustrating on harder songs, did feel cool when I was actually hitting the notes (rarely lol) Thanks!

Folios are honestly awful. Reminds me a lot of the skills in FFXV which was also awful. They already had a cool thing going in FF7 Remake with the weapon modification thing and they... brought it back sort of, but made a lot of it overlap with folios and made it way worse. Honestly I wouldn't be sad at all to see the synergy system go entirely... Chrono Trigger it is not.
