I'm glad you're clarifying this because I did not see that statement as problematic at all. There are a lot of folks talking about how college football has changed to the point that a team should be able to turn things around in a year. Yes, college football has changed a lot and the portal has had a huge impact. And yes, teams can be turned around in a year if you get lucky and hit on most of your portal players. But I don't buy into the idea that college football has changed so much that every team should be able to turn things around in a year. Teams are still getting most of their players through recruiting. And so it takes more than a year to build a solid roster of all your players that you know and trust. It can also take more than a season to get the buy-in from the higher-ups and the boosters and all of that. It can definitely take more than a season to turn the culture around and install all of your processes and procedures and teach everyone the way you like things to be done. That's what I took from Billy's statement. And it is especially true at Florida when you consider what he came into after Mullen left. So I agree that it is possible to flip a team from bad to elite within a season. But that's not going to be true for most teams. And it's still going to take two to three seasons for most teams to get back to their elite status after a coaching change. The portal and NIL has definitely changed the game drastically but I don't think most teams are going to be able to turn on a dime and flip from bad to good within one offseason, even with the portal and NIL. I am tired of people giving Billy a hard time by saying things like, "This is the 'new-look' college football and you need to show results immediately and Billy seems to still be stuck doing things the old way from 3 years ago." That just isn't true in my opinion. Can a team get lucky by bringing in sevral portal players that end up changing the program entirely almost overnight? Sure. But that is going to be the exception. Most teams are still going to need 2 to 3 years to completely adjust to a new coach. There is so much more that goes into running a program than just getting elite players from the portal. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with what you said. However, the in-game coaching mishaps and lack of attention to detail I've seen is bothersome. I think game 1 will tell us a lot about where he has the team.

I once again agree. Napier isn't just someone who's out to win a bunch of games today saying "screw tomorrow". He's building a program that can compete year in and year out long term. That doesn't mean he doesn't want to win now, but he's building long term. Remember Mullen? He won big in his first 2 years but after that the team fell apart and regressed. You don't walk in and build a dynasty type of program overnight. Esp when you walk into a dumpster fire. In the old days before portals and NIL? Sure you could but those days are long gone and the classic "ole ball coach" mentality doesn't cut it in these modern times. It's no surprise the top programs today are run a like a fortune 500 company's with the coach being the CEO. This is what Napier is trying to develop and I think it will show this year. If not, the BIg Money people have a decision to make. Not the Fans. Not the AD The Big Money people. I have no doubt Big Money has a timeline to see a return on their investment and that timeline is far removed from what the fans think. After all, that's why they're Big Money and your not. I think unless he really drops the ball ... pun intended ... Napier will have until the end of the 2025 season to produce. No matter what happens this year.

"A Dynasty." So that's what Billy has been building the last couple of years? Obviously, he's got the job for another year. But if he turns in one more losing season?

@@oasisbullterriers I hate using the word "dynasty" but it's pretty much what he wants to build. He wants to be competitive year after year with no drop off like OSU, Ga, Bama, etc does. He could however, implode this year and if he does, then Big Money has a decision to make. I think it will be the eye test for the money people but I really don't know. I do know the Big Money people who back CFB programs don't look at things like we fans do which is why they have the Big Money.

FSU fan here: I think it’s remarkable how many people don’t understand that It takes time to implement processes and assemble a team of qualified individuals to operate at a high level. Now add on a requirement to lead men and 18-22 year olds in the most highly competitive Conference. These aren’t coaching jobs anymore - it’s a CEO role. The program has replenished its talent and is great at acquiring it. I am optimistic the state of Florida will be highly successful and competitive for the next 10-20 years - FSU, UF, UM, UCF, USF.

They can be 5-0 going into Tenn. I think by the end of the schedule too many factors can come into play like injuries to all teams, etc.. I think they are going to be ok with a winning record. Maybe a low bar but still going in the right direction. Remember to pay the buyout on BN and probably lose a ton of talent in both active roster and recruits all for the sake of tearing it down again isn't always the smart move unless you are talking about Kiffin or something like that coming to UF

I don’t know how to beat this drum loud enough. As long as BN shows improvement on the schedule (not just team strength but almost everyone gets us coming off a bye or a cream puff) . He should be given another season. But we seriously need to take steps to move on from SS. While he is good at spending $$ on facility upgrades. His process for selecting coaches is clearly flawed, His leadership has produced multiple scandals, throughout his coaches, and he clearly has no influence inside the SEC as we are facing what is considered the hardest schedule in football history. Regardless of the fall season, President Sasse need to take deliberate steps to replace SS with someone who can lead a department the size of UF.

We are "On Schedule" for this season/year. That's what he means. From what I heard, things are running like he wants, we will see what he can do this year. Good or bad, the team and culture is what Napier wanted now, we will find out soon if it works in game.

Thanks for the lucid take. Knee-jerk reactions and trolling are to be expected, but it is good to hear that not everyone is buying into that narrative. You have emerged as a voice of reason. KUTGW. GG!

On schedule is good. Napier has been pulling UF out of a Covid cesspool. Sorry, success takes time. I can't wait for Billy to shut every armchair quarterback's mouth. Go Gators!
