Thank you for that video! I'll tell you what really frustrates me with modern machines these days - build quality has dropped way down over the last years. Even high end brands have experienced a significant drop. So frustrating!

My mother had the same Kenmore washer for 35 year....had to replace minor parts every 10 years or so...finally had to get rid of it when they stopped making parts....the replacement washer had to have major parts replaced after a few years, and then every couple years after. Today's appliances are garbage.

Love this video mate, a part 2 would be grand. My annoyances are: - unnecessary single use packaging on products, just give us compostable plain cardboard - things getting stuck in the door crease in washing machines - when the floor head of a hoover is really low and can't be adjusted so ends up just pushing dirt around

Really interesting video. My issue is washing machines dealing with unbalanced loads. So annoying. The machine should be able to spin without a perfect load balance.

Another useful and informative video, thank you. I have an old Hotpoint washing machine which still operates efficiently, the problem is the front panel has developed a serious rust problem, but I am reluctant to buy a new machine simply because of the long wash times, which are ridiculous.

On the face of it, "Frost Free" is something of a misnomer, and putting a heating element inside a freezer is crazy, and doesn't do your frozen food any favours! And if an idiot, puts a screwdriver through their freezer, it's their own stupid fault! My traditional Bosch Fridge Freezer is 19 years old, and still going strong. My 2005 Candy Washing Machine recently died from suspected spider failure, aged 19 years. I've replaced it with a Hisense Inverter, which is nice and quiet, but the program times are ridiculously long.

I am glad I have a Top Loading Washing Machine. I only use cold water. I never use hot water or lukewarm water, as there is no need for this. My machine also weighs the clothing and adds enough water for the wash, even though I don't use that cycle. I estimate the level of water required for the wash. Job done in under 40 minutes !

I never use a Coldwater wash. It ruins the machine, the detergent film whether it's liquid or powder and if you use fabric softener really does damage to the machine. Certain Soils and body oils need warm water to lift.

I have mainly Hotpoint appliances and my biggest bug bear with my Hoptoint washing machine is that when you put it on a short wash the spin speed is reduced to 800rpm and it doesn't remove enough water from the washing and you have to put it back on after the cycle for the full 1400rpm spin speed. and the other annoying thing is you can't adjust the spin speed as it is set for each programme and the display shows it is the full 1400 spin speed yet the user manual says its the reduced 800 spin speed. I will certainly think twice about a Hotpoint for my next machine.

I have a hotpoint oven and dishwasher and I must say I find them both frustrating and lacklustre in performance. The oven take and age to pré heat and then the same to cool down thus doubling the energy consumption not to mention noise and the dishwasher programmes are sooo looong!!! A normal mixed programme is 2 hours 38 minutes! Wouldn't buy or recommend hotpoint

Oh yes, and the two-minute ‘stand around and twiddle your thumbs’ until the washing machine door will unlock the safety catch…SURELY in 2024 manufacturers could fit a sensor that tells it that the drum has stopped spinning, and that it’s safe to open the door immediately afterwards? I mean - seriously WHY 2 MINUTES?! It’s just a stupid legacy feature! We can send men into space but our washing machines can’t detect that the drum has stopped moving?! Madness!

i don't like frost-free freezers. as part of a fridge, it makes sense but the food always ends up with freezer burn. never have that problem in a manual defrost freezer

I prefer a quick 30 min wash . Washing clothes for 3 hours is Truly scandalous. Air fryer Tefal need the instructions to be bigger print and easy to understand lol

I hate the fact that Bosch have dropped the outside temperature guage. To have to bend down on your knees, to read an inadequate temperature control is ridiculous. Not much fun when you have knee problems.

I think one you might of missed is to do with heat pump tumble dryers. When you have to clean the heat exchanger at the bottom of lint. Yes you have the normal lint trap near the door. However now you also have to clean the heat exchanger at the bottom every week. Mines the Samsung series 9 heat pump version. I have noticed some other makes have a second lint trap near the heat exchanger.

It frustrates me that the suspension / shock absorbers of washing machines break so easily. And that you cannot set the alarm sound at the end of the program loud enough. I want to get my clothes out before they wrinkle. Why can it not be as loud as on my dish washer? I don't even need it on my dish washer. I agree with you about ovens and freezers.

Great vid. My pet peeve is not being able to change e.g. time or temp on pre-programmed settings on my washing machine. I understand that the manufacturer has designed that programme to run at that time/temp for the desired outcome but it should be MY choice whether I then choose to change the properties of the wash. For example I don’t want to run my eco wash on 40 (it’s unnecessary to be that high and I want it at 30 or below)…but I can’t edit it. If a wash is 3+hours, I think it’ll ultimately still be clean enough whether at 40 or 30!😠

I have a Beko washing machine. A lot of the time I do wash after wash using the same program. When it finishes, it doesn’t remember the last wash you used, so annoying. Does have a time display though. Manufacturers should also post the internal dimensions of a washing machine drum, maybe in litres, as currently, machines say 9kg but the drum is tiny. I want to know how big it is inside! Keep up the great videos.

I've never understood how running your machine for an hour at 40 costs more then running it for 4 hours at 40 doesn't make sense there be no clothes left after 4 hours I never get that dirty to warrent washing my clothes for 4 hours plus all that extra wear and tear on your machine for that extended amount of time is it just me I also belive that the quality of all these products has dropped quite substantially crazy world we live in 😂

Frost free can be good and bad. Besides losing space, it's more prone to problems. I have a duplex with frost free and I had it in a room where I would not turn the heat on and it would run below 10 Celsius in the winter, therefore it was unable to thaw properly and got clogged. Then, it would give me a puddle of water below it and there weren't instructions anywhere around what to do, so I had to disassemble it and find out there was too much ice behind the plastic. If it were a traditional freezer I'd have seen the ice and I would be able to be sure there were no clogs or ice that wasn't properly thawed and fix it quickly. I think that the "low ice" solution you mention is probably better. I didn't know frost free was less energy efficient. To be honest, I am happy with my horizontal freezer, much cheaper to run, much higher capacity, a bit less convenient to take things in and out, as it has no shelves. Now that I am thinking about it, I have basically one of each kind (duplex, horizontal and full height vertical). 😁 One thing that frustrates me is being unable to use my washer to clean my Queen size duvets, even though it is an 8 Kg machine. I wish I knew in advance, so I could have bought a 12 Kg version.

Are eco washes always more energy efficient in terms of water use? It seems not always. My washing machine, from the first time I used the 'bedding' wash at over 3 hours stuck and always sticks at 1:24 hours. That is the highest temperature wash on my machine but it's not as hot as my old machine washes which went up to 95 degrees. I've got poor labelling on the machine or small match up of pointer and programme. One thing that's better is that it will hold a bigger load so I can wash bedding items I previously had to take to a laundrette. So glad I bought a frost free fridge freezer. It was initially shared with my daughter who wanted a more fashionable, and expensive type of fridge freezer which was not frost free. I felt it would be like the pets she had over the years which I ended up looking after. Within a year she had left home anyway. We only have space in our kitchen for a stand alone cooker but to clean the oven I have to get down on my knees which is painful and it's hard to see the inside when cleaning, which is dark, without training a spotlight on it. My Shark Vacuum cleaner is much easier to maintain than the previous Dysons we had. There are more access points.

Fridges with tiny gaps instead of a fixed join- takes so much time to get crumb like pieces of a veg (like broccoli) out of those gaps. Aaarrgh! Actually, all the appliances with hard to get to bits to clean that have me waste my time searching for brushes etc that fit well enough into those spaces.

Mine is washing machine, mine is a Bosch ( and happy with the results), but I find it complicated when it comes to cleaning the filter at the base of the machine, the instructions are not easy to follow. It also means you have to remove and replace the base board which in my case isn’t easy. ;(((

8:20 a few years ago i bought a tumble dryer with heat exchanger,when i called to the seller for some info,they litteraly told me it would be best to go on you Tube and search for the instructions there... 🤔

Viz the very beginning remark on wash cycle length, my Bosch auto re-calculates wash time in cycle, and it invariably reduces because of low load. True of eco 40 to 60 programme anyway.

A repair engineer told me that the programmes have to be longer due to the detergents and the wash at 20c etc. These temps are really too low and it takes the machine longer to remove it. Not sure how true this is.

That sounds correct, the 3 factors in washing are Water volume, temperature and time. If you decrease one of these you need to increase one or both of the others to compensate. So if you decrease the temp to 20c then you need to increase water consumption and increase time too.

Personally i think 1) the worst thing ever is the brushless motors you find on moast washing machines. 2) the way washing machines spend more time faffing about distributeing the load than spinning. 3) fridge freazer touch screens, just so annoying

What frustrates me is how picky some washing machines can be when it comes to balancing for spinning. I've had machines that spend more time balancing than actually spinning, and yes the machine is perfectly level and solid on the floor. Maybe if manufacturers used decent suspension systems in the first place there wouldn't be a problem.

Frustrating: Bought a fridge freezer with an ice maker and cold water. 1st one’s ice maker crapped out before the warrantee ran out. They replaced it. (The whole fridge) 2nd fridge’s ice maker, the capsule that fits into the whole bit, has a big crack at the back and the ice maker will also just stop making ice for 5 days, then begin again. At this very moment the whole thing is frozen up and not working and I can’t get the capsule out. I am over it.

A drain hose on a washing machine used to be pretty standard but now quite rare. I was told it’s easy to remove the filter and tilt the machine to remove the water so there’s no need for a drain hose! Really???

Washing machine- my spin cycle takes 10 minutes- i just want to quick high spin something before putting in dryer-ir hanging out in the hour of actual sun we may get.3 minutes should be ample.
