Fascinating insight. It's always nice to know that a strong part of the creative process is drawing upon past experiences and what you carry into your own projects. Nothing is completely original, but its how you spin it that makes these classic ideas.

Bs shovel knight pogo jump his main and only unique move is directly taken from duck tales 2 if you played both you could tell and while zelda 2 had pogo jump(kinda) it can only be used on some enemies and wasn't used for platforming so other than the knight enemy and the town npc zelda 2 had little to no influence. @@orangeslash1667

one of the things that inspired me when I was a kid was the "making of" video that came with Myst. They talk about making the backgrounds, sound effects, designing puzzles and recording the FMV scenes and I thought it looked so easy

We don't talk about it enough but the old NES, SNES and MegaDrive games had very good level design. Super Mario Bros lvl1-1 level design is a masterclass. The game slowly brings you into contact with the elements you will encounter. And it makes you want to try things.

Oddly it wasn't a game that inspired me to get into game dev, it was a Pokemon KZbin romhack series by ShadowElliot and Tamashi Hiroka (yes, that one). Both series have since disappeared but it made me fascinated with people editing existing works to create something new and then eventually making your own from scratch (or at least, fewer resources than an existing game provided).

I might be a bit different than most people but I'm into board game design, I took a step back from video game design (where my initial inspiration was pokemon/pokemon tcg on pc) but I played a video game called cardhunter that I NEEDED to share with everyone so I made a physical copy so my family and friends could play with me without having to pay for/grind for a decent character setup
@Denter862 ай бұрын
That's awesome! Board game designers need a lot more attention, I hope it goes well for you.

Jaffe and a few others in the business got me interested in making my own game. I miss the old days where gaming felt simpler. I know its probably nostalgia talking but I want to make games like they don't make anymore. From genres that are almost obsolete, like Twisted Metal.
